The oven has been replaced twice, but the error still appears. After doing some research online, I discovered that this error is quite common. I now believe that there is an inherent design flaw that appears to impact different batches of manufactured ovens. Some users think is due to a bad “triac” on the internal power board. After several weeks of dealing with this problem, I am fed up. I requested a refund from Breville, but they have refused since it was not purchased on their website. They were only willing to give me a credit for the original price to buy a product on their website. However, I only need a reliable convention oven. This has been a frustrating experience and I warn others about purchasing this oven!

I asked if this fan problem has been addressed in newer units, and the customer service rep didn't know. It's just frustrating when you spend money for a quality product that serves you well and then have it fail in three years. So, yes, I would recommend the oven but with the caveat that the convection fan is a weak component that will limit the life of the appliance.

So, in total, I have had 3 different units and have placed the unit on different outlets throughout my house which is modern and high quality construction. I can only surmise the oven has a design defect. Therefore, I cannot recommend this oven to others.

Excellent concept vs a full size oven but ….

Great while it lasts. Looks sharp. Easy to keep clean. I believe this is our fourth unit over about a dozen years, not including one exchange. One unit only lasted 2 years due to getting electrical shocks from the start button. Others, the start button stopped working or the oven eventually didn't cook evenly or the convection fan died (humming, not turning). Thankfully, BB&B helped us with one unit. Current oven is already having trouble with the start button after just a few months - c’mon Breville, spend an extra buck on a better design! This type of oven is a great tool versus heating up the regular oven, especially for small meals for the two of us or reheating leftovers. It is not efficient for making toast - a regular toaster is much faster unless perhaps you’re making six slices at a time ( we like having less appliances overall). Like that it will handle a 13” pizza. Strongly suggest using a catch pan when possible while cooking anything that might “overflow” the cooking dish. The heating rods are “shielded” but you don’t want goop getting on them for several reasons. Overall, just not happy with the life of the unit for the money paid - should be able to get 5 years out of it, at least. The light bulb outlasts the oven (earlier models didn’t have the light). Might be a common problem regardless of brand. Things may be different these days but I would only buy this from Bed, Bath and Beyond due to better total pricing with discounts and help when there are concerns.

Great toaster over -- hope it lasts!

We bought our first toaster oven ever (also a Breville) just under 2 years ago and loved it...until it simply stopped working with an "unresettable" error code last month. This oven is the next step up in size and includes a few other additional features as well. We love it too! We were perfectly satisfied with the previous oven's performance, but this one toasts even better -- more evenly, to be specific, with less variation top-vs-bottom, apparently at the cost of just slightly more time. The interior light is an unexpected help. I don't believe it's meant to be turned on continuously, but it's an easy way to check on cooking progress without opening the door and losing heat, and it automatically turns on for the last 30 seconds of cook time. The rack slides out an inch or 2 when the door is opened -- not necessary, but a nice little feature -- and apparently all it took was a small magnet in the two side door frames -- who knew? I have one concern and it's major: if this Breville oven doesn't last significantly longer than our first one, I will be one very unhappy former Breville customer -- and I've got my fingers crossed because the performance is so great when it works.

Need a bench top oven? Or need more room when entertaining or batch baking? Look no further...

The only Breville appliance I have ever owned before this purchase was a very cheap hand mixer bought on sale and used for over 20 years now in our holiday shack. It has coped with numerous Xmases, birthday cakes and parties and is still going strong. The same house only has a small oven and I wanted a bench top one to keep in the laundry (just off the kitchen) to make more cooking space when entertaining. This is perfect - big enough for a serious sized roast, baking batch or casserole ( in fact it fits all but my most massive Le Creuset pot). 10 modes although I cant say "crumpet" does anything for me - we like ours crispy both sides so call that 9! The slow cook is excellent. Heats up quickly, temperatures are accurate. Grill is better than my expensive real home ... MoreThe only Breville appliance I have ever owned before this purchase was a very cheap hand mixer bought on sale and used for over 20 years now in our holiday shack. Does get hot so I would buy the bamboo board they sell as an accessory to go on top. And try to keep it away from your fire alarms if you like to crank it up to max for pizza (the book says go lower but it's wrong - def best done on top whack).

Also, some things I'd like to note: No matter how much I carefully (non-abrasively) cleaned this thing per their instructions, that beautiful shiny black interior finish when you first get it disappears after a couple months use. The cheap materials it's made of scratches VERY easily. Certain cleaning products specifically made for ovens and grease will actually fade parts of the stainless steel and the drip tray. This thing is banging, and I find myself writing this review 2 years after getting it because it has been so amazing. Shout out to Kenji for explaining the magic in this thing, but I'll provide a short glimpse of the range of what it can provide an avid home cook. I reheat fried foods using the convection oven, and it behaves like an air fryer (have to add a bit more time to recipes due to its size being much bigger than most air fryers). I have baked with it all day long. I can make clotted cream at a super low temp for 12 hours, or garlic in oil at 225 for 2 hours. I made roasted shishito peppers in 12 minutes at 425 yesterday. The pullout at the bottom is brilliant, so as long as your mess drips down you just slide it out and rinse it off. Quarter sheet pans fit it perfectly and can help you prevent messes, so I would definitely encourage you to pick one up for <$10. Cheese toast comes out perfect. In summary, use it probably 5 times a week, and when it comes to summer time it is my workhorse because I don't want to turn on my full oven and heat up the house. It basically is like having 2 ovens as long as I'm not trying to bake a giant casserole or something. This is my most used appliance, hands down.

My husband surprised me with my Breville Smart Oven Pro for the 46th anniversary of our engagement! I/we really like ours and use it almost daily and on some days two or three times. The learning curve was very little. Our favorite features are Toast, Bake, Warm and Reheat. The TOAST pre-set of 4&4 is perfect for our breakfast toast (2 slices) And the same goes for 2 “toasted cheese sandwiches.” We BAKE (regular/no convection) most of our dinner/supper entres. And the size of Smart Oven Pro allows for even my 9-3/4x9-3/4x 2” casserole with lid, too! The non-stick 12 inch “pizza” pan that came along –is almost worth its weight in gold as they say. For keeping fresh pizzeria pizza toasty with the “WARM” setting (our preference middle rack and temp 200 degrees). For leftover cold pizzeria pizza - making it mouth watering with the “REHEAT” setting (our preference middle rack temp 325 degrees). The REHEAT setting is wonderful for a piece of cake/brownie, etc. in bringing back that just baked smell and taste. I must include in my review that the convection fan noise is noticeable. So, this is an area for Breville to “work” on going forward to make their oven even better!

This is my third one of these

The good: This oven has excellent temperature accuracy & control, and I use it for cooking at low and high heats as well as for keeping things warm after they've been cooked. I use this more than I use my large oven, and we host brunches nearly every Sunday with 12-24 people. The bad: this is the third time I've had to buy one because they die. The first thing to go (after about 2.5 years) is the convection fan. It just locks up and refuses to spin any more. Not fatal, but inconvenient. The next thing is the control panel. It starts with pressing one button but another gets activated. Then, the panel just loses power repeatedly. When the unit automatically turns its light on at 30 seconds before the end of the cycle, something loses contact and the unit starts ... MoreThe good: This oven has excellent temperature accuracy & control, and I use it for cooking at low and high heats as well as for keeping things warm after they've been cooked. When the unit automatically turns its light on at 30 seconds before the end of the cycle, something loses contact and the unit starts emitting a loud buzzing sound.Press the center of the panel, and it comes back on, but every setting is back to factory, as if you had unplugged it. So get used to the idea that you will be throwing this thing away in about four years. But it is an amazing tool while it lasts.
