My previous Breville toasters were good but this one is a winner. It looks and feels very solid and works like clockwork. When you press the toast button it slowly lowers the bread and when finished it audibly confirm the toast is done. If it's not quite done another button-"a bit more" can be pressed for the toast to automatically lower and continue. And that's exactly what it does, just a bit so you get what you asked for. Also, while the toast is being done you can press another button "lift and look" to check whether it's done enough. It has buttons for crumpets and frozen bread to make the toasting experience even more accurate. Both were very heavy so my Wizz sat on the benchtop and having a young family, was used every day.In 1985 our family moved with work to Papua New Guinea and we were there for four years. We were very limited on what we could take with us but there was no way I was leaving the Wizz behind!That Breville Wizz lasted for years and years and I only had to replace the bowl. Nice toaster overall with quality construction. Only criticism is the heating element. One of the elements produced a fair bit less heat because the wires were flat against the frame rather than sticking out a mm or two. There needs to be better quality control to ensure even heat. In fact, more heat lower down would be the best, as I find the top of the bread tends to cook more than the bottom.
Works just like it should, very happy with it. Tip is to insert bread upside down with crust to the bottom of the toaster for most even toasting. Another tip is don’t use frozen+crumpet setting for frozen bread crusts - they will become charcoal even when using same perfect toasting level as for frozen+toast for bread (which for me is one LED light above setting 3). That crumpet+frozen combo of buttons clearly overrides the main toasting level.
I didn't think I needed a new toaster until I stayed somewhere on holiday and came across the Breville Smart Toaster whilst having breakfast at my hotel. I had never realised that I could have bread toasted to EXACTLY how I like it, but the Smart Toaster not only makes this a reality with its clever controls, but also makes it fun with its cool press-button raising and lowering of toast...especially to see how its going or if you need a little bit more. Its a stylish piece of equipment too would look good in any kitchen, without looking cheap or kitschy. Its well-made, performs brilliantly and makes perfect toast. What more could you ask for?
This was an expensive toaster. It allows me to toast vogels well and I've also toasted hot cross buns (halved) and ordinary bread, and I can toast from frozen. Unfortunately it sometimes only toasts one side and it toasts the top of the toast to almost burnt with the lower edge still not quite toasted. I did think for the price and fancy options the manufacturers would have allowed for heat rising and organised the elements so the toast cooks evenly. Cheaper toasters would have done that. Feeling a bit ripped off to be honest.
Bought this to replace the 4 slot version which has finally succumbed to old age. This model has all the same auto features for toasting bread, crumpets, fruit loaf and frozen bread. The lift and look option allows an inspection of the bread etc without turning the toaster off. The bit more function adds a small amount of extra toasting if it's not quite to your liking or you've left it there after it's ready and you want to warm it back up. Overall it produces fairly evenly browned toast and crumpets, is aesthetically pleasing and has a fairly good warranty period.

Stylish love the brushed silver finish that doesn’t show smudges and fingerprints like my last Breville toaster. The wide slice slots are a great design feature. The motorised toaster lower and lift and look function is very easy to use and the buttons feel sturdy. I have had this toaster for about a month and I am still working out the toast times. For bagels even on 4 I have had to select the ‘bit more function’ but it does leave the outside of the bagel soft whilst the inside cut surface toasted, I thought that seeing I needed a higher toast time for the bagel I used the same setting on my toast! At last, a bread toaster that delivers a piece of toast made the way YOU like it. Evenly brown on both sides, without the clicking and clunking like other automatic toasters, just a small beeping when done. The cabinet is brushed steel and stays cool to touch, control buttons illuminated and well placed for convenience with their easy to read description. Best toaster purchase I have made over the 47 years of marriage.
