Even I can make great waffles now!

Our luck with waffle makers has not been great. We have had a few, but to be honest, we didn't make waffles often because of the mess and inconsistent cook of the waffles. Our last waffle maker really underperformed, and most distressingly the plug at the wall outlet got so hot we needed oven mitts to unplug it.So, I did a little research, and this Breville smart waffle maker seemed to get great reviews, so after comparison with several other types, we decided to try it. And first time, the waffles turned out perfectly, using the buttermilk waffle recipe. We use it much more than I ever thought we would. We do much more than waffles. We do leftover stuffing/dressing with mashed potatoes, gravy and rotisserie chicken, chicken and waffles, panini presses, grilled cheese. I love making waffles. This waffle iron is great insofar as it is large and heats evenly. So far so good. Now the issues:In order to cook waffles to your liking you need to be able to set temperature and time. With this waffle iron you can't set the temperature like you can with every other waffle iron in the world (or any other cooking appliance). It only has preset settings for "Belgian" "Classic" etc. etc. I wanted to cook my waffles longer at a lower temperature (they weren't cooked through). Impossible to do with this waffle iron. You can cook them longer, but at the standard temperature the waffles burned. I don't understand how there is no temperature setting. Frankly, I have owned approx. 10 waffle makers in my life and there was always a temp setting ... MoreI love making waffles. This waffle iron is great insofar as it is large and heats evenly. They are very different types (one dense, one fluffy) and require very different cooking times and temperatures. No idea which one the "Belgian" setting is for. Also, the waffle iron is hard to clean. You can't take out the trays (with my old one I could just put them in the dishwasher). I had to blow out crumbs with a can of compressed air - not very convenient. I know that Breville can do better than this.

My whole family harasses me for waffles now...
20 March 2023

I bought this waffle maker for my apartment. I then made waffles and they were the best waffles I ever had, let alone ones I've had from a restaurant before. So I then make waffles for my parents and siblings. I now have to make batches of waffles for my mom every time I'm home. I can't even bring my waffle maker back to my apartment. I come into the house and she shows me how many waffles (she freezes them) she has left. This is seriously an amazing waffle maker. It's worth the money. On a serious note - I did blow the fuse on mine and had to get it replaced. Breville very kindly took care of me, but be careful making large batches. You'll be the breakfast hero you always dreamed to be.

PERFECT RESULTS EACH AND EVERY TIME

The Breville Smart Waffle Maker was well worth the price! The presets are absolutely invaluable, and the depth of each plate ensures a generous serving for everyone! Breville is my go-to appliance brand, and I have never been disappointed with the quality or service I have received over the years. It is a heavy unit, but very easy to wipe clean while it's still warm, and the overflow ensures nothing drips onto your bench. My family recipe results in the most fluffiest and tasty waffles: Whisk 2 cups plain flour, 2 tbsp caster sugar, 4 tsp baking powder, and 1 tsp salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk 2 eggs, 1½ cups warm milk, and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix gently until smooth and stir through 50g melted butter. Add any fruit or topping you like. Perfect Waffles With No Sticking
16 February 2023

We have used our new waffle maker five times this month. It makes perfect waffles using the recently rebranded red box pancake and waffle mix. It heats fast and makes a golden brown waffle. We bought this larger model after reading reviews saying the smaller unit sticks. This four slice model has never had a waffle stick. It is super easy to wipe clean. I like my waffle a little crispy, so the “little more” cook button makes that work great. The spill lip around the edge catches the drips great and is easy to wipe clean while the waffle cooks.I recommend this, even though it is a little pricey.

Perfect family pleaser
2 August 2021

Our family enjoys having waffles as a main meal every so often. Till now, was using the single waffle maker, again by Breville (Crisp Control), still going strong, only when cooking up a batch for the family it was a longer process. Anyway, let’s move on to this beauty. Rearranged the menu for the week and opted for waffles today. Definitely a family pleaser, the waffles were so soft and light, crispy on outside as actually shown through the website. The actual size of each waffle was just shy on a slice of bread. They were nice and thick, evenly cooked and colour was amazing. Simply put, they were awesome. The actual Breville Smart Waffle Pro 4 slices was extremely easy to use. They were nice and thick, evenly cooked and colour was amazing. Simply put, they were awesome. The actual Breville Smart Waffle Pro 4 slices was extremely easy to use. Whip up your choice of batter, I made the Buttermilk recipe, turned the on/off dial to required setting - Buttermilk, time automatically sets itself to bake. First batch come out beautifully crispy, so I adjusted the heat level down and got a light golden colour. Opted for slightly darker which was level 6, using right knob and of I went again. An added advantage was the supplied measuring cup - 2 levels : 1 serve = 1/2 cup, 2 serves = full cup. Don’t overfill your servings as the batter will overflow as my 1st attempt resulted. This is where the moat came into use, my slight overflow went into the moat, which also cooked nicely and was munched by my observers.I would have uploaded finished product of waffles, but were to delicious looking and tasting that I indulged and forgot.Overall, is it bulky, Yes. But for me, the unit itself is sturdy, well made - not flimsy or rackety as some other models I’ve checked. With the stainless look, simply wipe down once totally cooled, a little wipe inside and away it goes till next session. Pricey, Yes, but so worth the dollar spent. For me, it cut down serving time, where we were all almost eating together. This was a major factor for me, no soggy waiting between cooks.Delish.So, if you are looking to upgrade or looking for a new Waffle Maker, this is it.Don’t be afraid to make a larger batch of batter, the extra waffles can be stored, ( sealed containers) have them for breakfast/lunch/snack. Simply put into the toaster and viola. Just as scrumptious as if making right then.

Quality and customer service like no other
16 June 2022

I bought this last year and had issue with the first two units. I contacted the company and had courteous, prompt and outstanding service to replace the appliances at no cost. I make sourdough, classic, and chocolate waffles (family's favorite) and they come out excellent each time. The baking selection button makes it hassle free to manage the time or heat control, and it's a charm to clean after use with a simple hot rag. The only thing I wish - although not a deal breaker - would be if the cooking plates could be removable to be cleaned under running water. Again though, the non-stick surface is smooth and make it easy to wipe clean after use.

We absolutely love are Breville Waffle Maker
20 May 2022

We just purchased our second Smart Waffle Pro 4 Slice waffle maker. We now have one at each of our homes and cannot believe the quality waffles we are able to make for our very large family. While traveling in Cancun Mexico we found a recipe for waffles that include coconut, pineapple and shaved pecans mixed up in the batter along with cream of coconut. We use a hot caramel topping on these waffles and our children and grandchildren and their friends cannot get enough. We have had several waffle makers and nothing comes close to our Breville Waffle Maker.

Works for me
8 February 2023

Hearty large squares in the 4-fer.1 downside, bottom frame is deep, hard to lift out without utensil of some sort, preferably with pointy end to dig in, but this risks scratching non stick surface.Takes longer than the ATKitchen preferred 3-4 minutes to have brown waffles but when finally done, you do get nice waffles. Lid lifts back enough to clear filling iron with batter. Also good for "will it waffle" items. Needs large size storage footprint because very solid unit. Definitely family size. Individuals or couple might be satisfied with the 2-fer model. I repeat, the sections are large.
