We have used a previous version of this panini press for 2 decades. Our last panini finally stopped working (overuse?). We went for a year without one, finally decided we needed to replace because we couldn’t live without it! When this new version arrived, we immediately tried it out. It’s amazing and much improved from the last version. Our sandwiches were perfectly browned and delicious! The clean up seemed way easier. Love this panini press! Plan to purchase for our grown children and their families. Thank you, Breville! You continually amaze us with your fantastic products.

This replaced my 30 year old Breville Sandwich press that finally gave up the ghost! Very happy with it so far. Heats up quickly and I like that it can be stored upright in the cupboard. Room for 2 regular sandwiches and handles large slices of bread well. Have even used it to reheat dumplings! Recommend always using baking paper to help keep plates clean.

My old Breville sandwich toaster sadly died after 15 years. So of course I purchased another Breville, this time the Toast and Melt. It is fantastic, I can use it for just about anything from toasting a sandwich, just melting some cheese on the top of a parmie or even cooking a steak. The non stick surface is brilliant and so easy to clean. I highly recommend the Toast and Melt and promise you will too!

This is a excellent product that does the job exceedingly well. Well built, good quality and cooks evenly on both sides. Heats up quickly and is well insulated. The only problem is that it cooks too quickly so if one does not monitor the cooking process, the outside will be done long before the inner part of the sandwich. So one has to keep switching off and on to get a through-cook. That all-important feature missing that would qualify the Breville The Toast/Melt Sandwich Press BSG520BSS for a five start rating, is a thermostat. Other than that, one of the best sandwich presses one can buy.
Received The Toast and Melt 2 Slice Sandwich Press for Mother's day and am very happy with this unit. After having a Breville Sandwich Maker for the past 17 years, it was time for a new one! Whilst the previous model still worked wonderfully, it had suffered the test of time and the non-stick coating was looking very sad.I am thrilled by the upgrade and I have now started to use it regularly. I make a kebab for lunch most days and it cooks it to perfection. There is no cleaning necessary, I just wipe it over as a matter of habit, to keep it in A.1 condition. Product feels solid and has good hinges, and the toasting function does exactly what you would want. The melt setting (where the top plate sits just above the bread/cheese) doesnt sit exactly parallel to the bottom plate, so might touch slices at the back but be above at the front, and it doesnt seem to generate enough heat to truly grill from the top, so we ended up closing the lid onto the cheese and cooking it that way it makes more mess but certainly melts the cheese! Only knocking off 1 star because we usually make closed sandwiches with it and for that it is perfect, grilling will just have to be left to the oven as previous. For the price still an excellent toastie.
Works as expected, it's a great size for different types of sandwiches, can fit a couple of standard sandwiches, or a large focaccia. Also great for melting cheese on bread. This one replaces the same model that we have had for years. The cord started to deteriorate so got a new one. The kids are using it several times a day.
Overall, the Breville Toast/Melt Sandwich Press BSG520BSS is a well designed and constructed unit. The brushed stainless steel Floating Top Plate is well balanced and cooks evenly, automatically adjusting perfectly to all sizes of sandwiches every time. The added bonus is that the Top Plate is heat-insulted which is a unseen safety feature. Heat distribution for cooking is excellent, providing an even cook on both sides. This unit has large non-slip feat - the largest I have seen in its class. Heats up and cooks fast. One of the best sandwich presses one can buy and an absolute pleasure to use.
It's pretty good. The only problem is that if you try to toast a more rounded piece of bread like a bread roll or a particularly full sandwich, the weight of the lid just slides it forwards right to the edge and sometimes removes the top half from the bottom and can even spill over and onto the floor. From such experience, I only really use quite flat bread or sliced bread and always lower the lid very slowly and carefully. I'm not sure if there is an easy solution to this as teflon is slippery by definition. The stainless steel outer coating is very aesthetically pleasing but it gets covered in fingerprints and smeared oil form your skin pretty quickly which spoils the initial appeal. I don't seem to leave big fingerprints on the kitchen sink and I'm pretty sure that's stainless steel. The warm up first feature is probably a good idea but it is not realistic and compatible with real life. Nobody has the time or patience for that. It'd be good if we all did and it would probably be a healthy mindfulness sort of thing for us all to try and practice. But in real life, and in a busy office, there are very few people who will follow the instructions (let alone even read the instructions) and let it warm up first before putting their sandwich in. This is a plug and play world we live in. So, with that in mind, I think future sandwich presses need to be designed without the need for a warm up to achieve optimal performance. The cold hard truth of the matter is that nobody is actually going to do it. We're far too impatient and lunch time is precious time. Just my thoughts though. Pretty good sandwich press overall. The lock feature is very good for putting it away and the cable coils nicely underneath. Most electrical appliances have cables that stick out and don't wrap up easily for storage.
This was supposed to be Dad's early Christmas gift. However, it became a family-favourite very quickly within the household. Any boring, cold sandwiches were transformed and you would look forward to savouring every bite that the press had crisped to the perfect crunch. This Breville Toast and Melt Sandwich Press has given new life into the old days of plain and dry sandwiches.
