Brunnings Landscape Scoria has several useful characteristics for a variety of landscaping and construction applications for garden beds as in-organic mulch, bottom drainage layer in pots and planter boxes, lightweight drainage material behind retaining walls, high temperature insulation and as a bedding media for underground pipes. It is somewhat porous, has high surface area and high strength to weight ratio. It is also perfect for use in BBQ areas and decorating garden beds.

Disappointed with this product as it contained a very high clay content mixed in with some volcanic scoria. Nothing like to quality product previously purchased some two years ago. Suggest Bunnings invest in managing / controlling the quality of the product.

This is not gravel or stone. It's just dust. The colour isn't red either. I ordered 16 bags for my front yard. scattered this in about 10 sqm and since it just looks like soil i tried to grow grass on it. But grass doesn't grow too well in it either.

This landscape stone is quite attractive when used as a top dressing for pots and planters, and is a great addition to soil intended for growing cacti. However, if you intend on using this in your soil mix, it needs to be washed first. If you don't all that reddish brown dust you see in the bottom of every bag turns into this hideous mud-cement abomination in your containers. Smaller lots can be washed quite easily in a garden sieve.

If you want red as depicted in the product photo be wary of this product, it's nothing like it. Initially we hoped it was because the product was wet when we took it out of the bag, but even dry & in sunlight it's brown and doesn't give the colour contrast we anticipated. It does not "provide a striking finish" for my garden bed, and unlike the description online, the colour is unlike any "claret" that I've ever drunk (and I've had a few!).I've put yes to recommend it, because it does 2 out of 3 of the product claims on the packaging, but if the colour is important to you, you may need to find a different product.
Not red or scoria by all appearances. Brown muddy rocks some the size of small balls. Absolute waste of money. Do not recommend. Rubbish product that does not match picture on cover. Disappointed and waste of time.
I have bought scoria in the past and it was a red light weight rock, full of air holes. This is a bag of dirty brown solid rocks of all different sizes and including a lot of sand and dirt. Ok if i wanted some rocks but I still need some scoria. Too heavy and too much trouble to return.
Mixed rock type covered in brown dirt. Not volcanic at all.See photos, in my had is real volcanic scoria v the brown rubbish from bunnings. Some stones were Goff ball sized mixed with almost sand material.
Was at bunnings today to check this out. Definitely not Scoria (true volcanic rock - BTW they were selling this in tiny 3kg bags for $$) this bunnings volcanic rock looks like some generic red bush stone smashed into little pieces. 3 stars becuase the description is not accurate. No good for aeration and drainage in soil. Might be ok ontop of a garden bed if you want some cheap rock there.
I purchased 5 bags of red scoria to patch some holes in my red scoria 100 metre driveway.3 bags were just clay coloured dust and grit. One bag was substantially contaminated with 20 mm white pebbles and the last bag had a darker clay coloured very soft 'scoria'.There was no red colour in any of the bags. A very disappointing purchase.Obviously very poor quality control and mislabeled.
I bought a bag yesterday to add some scoria to my cactus mix. The fact that the clear window on the bag was all muddy should have been a red flag, but I thought it will be fine with a wash. When I opened the bag all the rocks were covered in clay. Washed off the rocks the rocks removing a lot of clay, to find a lot of pea gravel and large pieces of crushed granit and quartz but no scoria. Will not be buying this product again. Will be purchasing my scoria from a landscape specialist, and not Bunning, from now on.
