The Surface shown here has a protective skin and a screen protector installed which made forcing it into place a little difficult. And in order to make sure I wasn’t damaging either, I had to move it very slow. I would urge that same caution to others as well. If you have a thicker glass screen protector already installed, I do not think this will work. I would advise against this keyboard in that case.And while the clamps add bulk to the overall thickness, and will likely take away the ability to slide this into a perfect slot in a bag, it does add a layer of protection by reducing surface contact in public areas by the gap it creates between the computer and what it’s resting on. That also means it adds a significant amount of protection against liquid spills. And not to mention that gap makes it so much easier to pick up off a table too.This unit does not make a physical electrical connection and must be charged independently with a USB-C cable. This is something that is not provided in the box and I recommend a 1 meter USB-C to USB-C cable to charge it from the Surface to the keyboard while the surface is plugged in with its own charger. That may be the fastest solution. If you use a USB-C cable to charge the Surface already, then I would continue using that and be sure to charge the keyboard when needed.The keyboard itself is impressive. The keys feel very similar to the OEM offering but with the perfect amount of additional travel. And that might be the right area to have an improvement compared to the OEM option with a keyboard of this stature. The additional weight this keyboard adds to me is offset by the extra bounce and responsiveness from the keys and track pad. It doesn’t make it feel flimsy in operation and more like a dead weight. It just feels sturdy and somewhat rugged.I want to complain that there isn’t space for the new Slim Pen 2 to be stored. But the additional internals required to charge it, the resulting reduced battery capacity, potential conflicts between devices, and most importantly…most people buying this will likely not be using a pen anyway are reasons enough to not have this included. Perhaps I lack the perspective, but I just can’t see scenario where using a pen with this keyboard installed would be very useful anyway.Overall, this is an excellent addition to a Surface Pro 8 for someone who is on the go that needs a lot of protection, a more robust keyboard, and wants to reduce contact with surfaces by a considerable amount.

Also missing was the instruction manual. I'm waiting for the factory to send me one of each.Now the good news, it charges quickly, pairs well with my Surface Pro, but has occasionally lost Bluetooth connectivity. It wakes quite quickly, and connects just as fast. The backlit keys is a much welcomed feature as well.Where things turn South fast is the trackpad. It just isn't accurate, and seems to have a delay as well. It won't register smaller more precise movements. Given the weight, it means that there won't be any flex when you get in to a furious typing mode. It makes it feel more of a Surface Book which I don't mind.The cons are really only two things. As previously mentioned, the lack of place to store and charge the Surface Pen.The other being the way the Keyboard "connects" to the Surface. You merely insert it between the two flanges. This means you lose the ability to "Kickstand" the Surface. If you do tilt it back to far, I've found that the whole thing will fall over. Since there's really only three things in the keyboard, the Battery, the touchpad and the keyboard and it's components underneath, there's really nothing like akin to a counterbalance. My suggestion would be to implement a kind weight, or put the weight further towards the front of the assembly to prevent. Aside from these two things, it's otherwise a great alternative to others out there.

The keyboard still works, but no mousepad is not easily transitioned to after years of relying on one. I have contacted support, but as it would be, my purchase is JUST out of the 1 year warranty period. so far, a week later I have not received a reply to my email, or my form that was filled out online. I will give all the credit where its due. The item is attractive, and very functional. I only have on complaint and that is the rubber feet are not durable. They come off within about 6 months, and did on my previous keyboard too. Brydge was quick to send replacements, but they have failed as well. I have used the Brydge for my Pro 7 and then with the switch to the Pro 8, I needed to get this keyboard. As space is at a minimum at the hospital, having my Pro 8 with the Brydge to use on my lap was essential.Although it adds more weight to your Pro 8 (about 1.5 lbs), I feel assured that it will not tip over. The two hinges secure the Pro 8 snuggly, no fear of scratching the screen. They hinges are also very sturdy and well built and offers 180 degree viewing angles.It is slightly bigger compared to the Pro 7 model, and you really don’t notice the additional space. I liked the concept of this keyboard. It looks and feels premium and there is zero keyboard flex due to chassis being metal. It nearly doubled weight of the surface pro, fyi. The battery runs out maybe every two days with continuous use. but the main problem was that it simply had Bluetooth issues with lag and latency which made me return the product. The keyboard would enter a soft-sleep mode a few seconds after any usage. And lastly the TouchPad ... MoreI liked the concept of this keyboard. It looks and feels premium and there is zero keyboard flex due to chassis being metal. It nearly doubled weight of the surface pro, fyi. The battery runs out maybe every two days with continuous use. but the main problem was that it simply had Bluetooth issues with lag and latency which made me return the product. The keyboard would enter a soft-sleep mode a few seconds after any usage. And lastly the TouchPad just isn't precise at all as you would move your finger gently and it's not registered at all.I checked for firmware updates on products website to discover there is none. I checked what driver windows 11 installs for this and it was a driver from 2006. I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers to no avail. For a product that has the windows seal of approval and even sold directly through MS store it simply does not work so I cannot rate this above 1 star.
Physically this keyboard is great. Hinge is solid, holds the Surface tablet securely, and allows me to interact with it like I would with a laptop. However, the bluetooth connection is subpar compared to other bluetooth keyboards. I had to return mine because a known bluetooth disconnect issue, and when I received it back battery like dropped noticeably. I use the keyboard far less than what is stated in the spec sheet and I have to recharge it every 2 weeks or so - no way do I get anywhere near 6 months of charge. Also, even with the keyboard fully charged it goes to sleep far more quickly than my other bluetooth keyboards, resulting in frequent mistyping if I'm not typing on it constantly.
My first Brydge Keyboard impressed me by making my surface pro look and feel like a laptop despite its lightness and sturdiness with a well-built aluminum body. This newer model has had the same effect on me.With a battery that lasts at least 6 months, it is hard not to like it. My previous one surpassed 11 months and I won’t be surprised if this one doesn’t last as long but no complaints here. Ideally, it would use the type-cover connector, but its USB-C charger is all you need to juice it up again for many more months. And during all this time, you have backlit keys and a high-quality touchpad.My only criticism is that I have not seen a lot more improvement from the previous model, which was great already. I don’t see the need for my Surface to use screen protectors but if you do, this will get in the way. It gives stability, which is great, but it is about time to come up with something that is both sturdy and easier. It should also be lighter although that would probably require some design changes because it already is lighter than the Surface and sometimes you can’t lean the tablet backwards too much because of that.I found it very comfortable, even on my lap and it was easy to forget I had a tablet, not a regular high-end laptop. Despite my suggestions above I still believe it deserves a 5-star rating. I would recommend it over the type cover if/when you use the Surface for productivity. It is way more comfortable, especially after working for a couple of hours or more. That’s the same kind of experience that I’ve had with their iPad Pro Max model, except that I couldn’t forget that I had a tablet with the latter as I could with this one.
