I bought the Travoy over a decade ago when I was planning a tour of the US. To bike the perimeter to be exact.I wanted to use my road bike and wanted a compact trailer. The Travoy was one of the few options at the time. The good:CompactEasy to useThe bad:Tips over on uneven roads pretty easilyPlastic parts are not so durable. Specifically the mechanisms to to collapse the trailer. It would be amazing if the good folks at Burley could make a touring version of the Travoy. Perhaps a longer axel to make it more stable. Less plastic parts to collapse the trailer. Maybe latches instead? If you Burley folks read this, I would love to help design one!

I might return. It seems a number of reviews were for the earlier model/version. This is my 2nd Travoy. I’m discouraged by the new model. The plastic handles seem worse quality so I worry about it’s durability with frequent folding/unfolding and maneuverability by hand. Also there is no bag included that can clip onto the Travoy to be used as a cargo bag. (It arrives in a bag that does not have the clips so it’s just to store the folded up Travoy. The most similar bag to the previous version is the bottom grocery bag but costs an additional $100. The new version skimped on things, except the cost is no more affordable than the 1st version. I had previously used this on and off my bike to wheel cargo to my therapy office/school but now it doesn’t work as well for that.

Actually, I’m just a little bit astounded, how this thing flows and tracks, behind my smaller sized E mountain bike. For several months now I’ve been hauling music equipment, and general cargo, around the city, and out to some beaches. (And, interestingly enough, you can hand-pull this thing with a load across soft sand very easily, I wouldn’t have thought). Incredibly well-designed equipment. I eventually got the market bags and cover. Behind my various bikes, great rides, but also use standalone for shopping. Also, how it folds town so tight small when not in use, amazing. People approach me regularly, on streets and subway, what is that and where can I get one.

The trailer is great to go shopping with pick up small things. I am happy to recommend it for that purpose. Burley's customer service is definitely top notch.I gave it 4 stars because it's pretty outrageous that on top of a $300 trailer the market bags are another $190 and based on the quality I'd be shocked if Burley was paying more then $20 to have them both made (comparing to other bags for about that price point on Amazon.)If you want things to stay dry it's another $50 for a rain fly - which honestly I don't begrudge them as it is a clever piece of kit.Another alternative to the bags are a few sets of $20 bag attaching point clips (again, really, these should be about $10 for a set.)The only integrated alternatives I have found to the burley bags are ... MoreThe trailer is great to go shopping with pick up small things. We bought this to be able to grocery shop with our bikes. (We have Aventon Aventure.2 e-bikes in case you have one, too!) We needed the adapter and hitch for the bike rack, because my seat is way too low. We bought the top and bottom market bags as well. This trailer is easy to hitch and unhitch at the store, and could be used to haul lots of things besides groceries. It was such a great purchase my husband (who didn’t think we could grocery shop by bike) has asked for a second set of adapters for his bike rack as well. Yay for the Travis!
I bought the Travoy as I'm trying to live without a car in Miami (lol) and my ebike was struggling to carry enough groceries. I also live in a small apartment, so the Travoy looked perfect. It pretty much is! I use the rack adapter as my ebike has a suspension seatpost, and have managed to fit that and still be able to use a rear crate when I'm not using the trailer. It rides so smoothly I keep having to check it's there! I still haven't managed to fill the market bags while shopping. On the first outing, one of the yellow wheel button covers vanished, but Burley sent me a new one straight away. No problems other than that. I've managed to tip it on a narrow 90 degree turn, but the trailer stayed attached and was easy to right - no groceries lost.Very easy to ... MoreI bought the Travoy as I'm trying to live without a car in Miami (lol) and my ebike was struggling to carry enough groceries. I've used the straps and a bungee net to transport large A/C filters. I've also used it without the bike just as a useful trolley. Most of my journeys are less than 5 miles, but I'd have no qualms using this for longer distance trips or tours. Combined with a folding e-bike (on order) this trailer will give real flexibility.Every trip I've had multiple people come and ask me about it. Hopefully opening their eyes to the possibilities of using a bike for daily trips. I love it.Any negatives? I think changing anything (e.g., making it wider) would help some aspects but not make it as useable for pulling round a store. So far so excellent.
I watched several YouTube videos of people reviewing and demonstrating the Travoy before I purchased one. The positive reviews were correct. The trailer rolls smoothly, turns evenly, and goes over bumps without a sound or a spill. I can now carry more groceries and will load it with larger items that I had wished I had a way to carry in the past. With the trailer, I purchased a rain cover and a light kit. While both have functioned well, and I finally figured them out, I would have liked instructions for them. I realize that placing batteries in the light should be obvious, but I felt as if I might break the light when I was trying various approaches to opening it for the battery placement. I have used my Travoy twice. The first time was bringing a bag of work uniforms home - very light. All went well and I was pleased with how pulling the Travoy was nearly imperceptible. The second trip involved making a product return to JC Penney that weighed only a few ounces. While unhitching the Travoy from my locked-up bike, I noticed the hitch pin was unscrewed from the aluminum body of the Burley seat post hitch, only held by the spring steel star retainer. I tightened the hitch pin with an allen wrench, hoping to get home OK where I would apply locktight to the threads. I left JCP and headed across the street to Red Wing Shoes where I found the pin unscrewed again. On the way home from there, carrying only a box with new work boots, the hitch failed and the Travoy travelled with a mind of its own. I'll never be confident that the hitch will not fail again. I'm going to need to fabricate a hitch that yokes over and under the Travoy drawbar end and use a hitch pin with a spring retainer to make the connection, otherwise the only thing I can depend on are my racks and panniers, tried and true.
I have been using the Travoy bike trailer for a few years now and I love it.Recently I have been working on an attach system to combine the trailer with a back country ski harness (that I use for pulling a sled in winter). I came up with the perfect walking trailer for short or long distance use. I have tested this system on a 100 km walk on the Trans Canada Trail and I was surprised how I could pull my gear effortlessly without having to walk with a backpack and suffer hip, shoulder and/or back pain. Works great on gravel and dust road too. No trouble also going up or down hill with it. I have now two ways to enjoy my Travoy trailer...
We are thrilled with our new trailer. We replaced our tandem with a new Co Motion and we’re aware we would be unable to use our Bob Trailer with our tandem the way it was built. (Axle) The way the Burley folds up is a huge benefit to us as we travel in a small RV.Our recent trip we were able to pickup propane ice and groceries using the trailer.(not in one trip) We need to purchase the optional bags soon. The trailer is so quiet while towing. Great design and engineering Burley. Best Always, Jarry and Brenda
