Needed some new bindings to go on a LIB TEC Orca that could take a lot of torque and hold up well. The Burton Cartels were recommended to me and they have been everything people said. They offer great control with the toe cup hugging the boot well and transmit rider feeling from the mountain really well, and with just enough damping to make it smooth and reliable without being mushy. My only concern is that on the ankle strap there is a potential week spot in the form of a crease that I could see not lasting for the long haul, but I only suspect it, its certainly not an issue now, and that strap is cheap and easy to replace, so no great issue. Thats why I gave it 4 stars and not 5.

Binding are incredibly comfortable - my feet don't cramp up anymore. Very responsive and not as stiff as I expected (which is a good thing) - I came from older Flow bindings which I found really uncomfortable and stiff. One concern I have is the foam padding under foot seems a little flimsy. After the first day of riding with them, I can see the boot print and crease left behind permanently. I worry about the longevity of the foam.

I was super excited to repace 15-year-old cartels until I went to mount them on my snowboard. The new reflex discs do not allow for horizontal adjustment on a standard 4x2 snowboard hole pattern, so I cannot get the stance I had with my old binding. Now I am in a position where I need to choose different bindings or get a different snowboard. I am bummed because the bindings look amazing.

I'm a heavier rider at 240 all geared up. I ride the whole mountain with my Ride Super Pig 158 and Ride Insano boots. . I've tried a lot of bindings but still come back to Burton Cartels. These are my first Cartel X series and they seem to work as good as the originals. They do feel a tiny bit stiffer but still have a a good feel. I prefer a medium flex binding and stiffer boot. I find it to be a surfy yet responsive feel. The Cartels have yet to let me down. They could be lighter but they aren't that heavy and seam to dampen the vibrations a little. They are very expensive but the best stuff often is.
These are amazing bindings, I've had many generations of Cartel bindings. However for the extra money I would recommend upgrading to the Cartel X's. The heal cup, and a few other features make a huge difference. The only thing I don't like is the new flex plates extremely limit the options for stance configuration. I was forced to ride with a 1/2" smaller or larger stance then what I prefer, because the plate hole pattern is extremely limited with the flex feature.
I have had a great time on this bindings! They are a great happy medium in term of flex (in my opinion.) They are stiff enough to have great responsiveness at high speeds but also soft enough to butter and jib around the mountain at slower speeds. The heel hammock on it offers a great sense of support and engagement and paired with the EST channel system it offers superior board feel. You will notice that both EST is a +/- for me. Reason being for the board feel (+) but the channel screws seems to come loose here and there on my harder days of riding. Not a huge deal since you can simply tighten them with a screwdriver on mountain but nonetheless, can get annoying sometimes .
I have about 5 Board days on these bindings consisting of both sunny groomer days and deep powder. I think these bindings offer good board response but lack comfortability. These bindings seem to be popular but I can only compare these to Jones bindings that cost a little more. I find that the sole of the binding is hard and uncomfortable. Furthermore, after hours of riding they are much more tiring to use.Pros:- Provide good response from board- The straps over the boots are light and you don't feel them quite as much, they also conform to the boot shape when tightened.Cons:- Uncomfortable contact points with the entire bottom of boot- Much more tiring to use over hours of riding causing more muscle fatigue across lower extremities.- Have more difficulty ... MoreI have about 5 Board days on these bindings consisting of both sunny groomer days and deep powder. The Cartel has been a staple in the Burton lineup for over a decade, it continues to be one of the best grab and go bindings that you can depend on. The X series takes it up a notch with a stiffer highback, allowing you to really lean into those heelside carves and slashes. I rode these on a Burton board so I opted for the EST model. If you have foot pain this is something you'll really want to consider! Having only foam between you and the board instead of a bunch of plastic and metal screws can really reduce foot fatigue and allows for great board feel.If you like ripping the whole mountain and are looking for a new set of bindings to click into and not worry about these are a top choice!
Rides a bit more responsive than the 2013 Cartel bindings these are replacing. Lighter weight, too. Tradeoff may be that they feel a little less sturdy. Footbed foam is bulging up strangely, too.My box did not include the 4x4 bolts & washers that I assumed would be in the box (REI Q&A for this product says 'mounting hardware included.') I'll stop by the store to ask about that!
Hell yeah, I've been riding the basic Cartel for years now and I'm still loving it especially for freeriding but also for riding kickers. And now my favourite binding received a high-end performance upgrade. For my boots size EU 42.5 the binding size M is perfect.More precision, more power, more fun in snowboarding! Everything in this binding just works so fine. The footbed is perfectly dampened, the straps feel super comfortable, are easy to adjust and the buckles never let you down. For my personal riding, the highback has the most perfect blend of really tons of stiffness with just the right amount of flexibility. In powder I have a strong and responsive binding that won't make my feet get tired after a couple of runs and that reacts on every single move I make. ... MoreHell yeah, I've been riding the basic Cartel for years now and I'm still loving it especially for freeriding but also for riding kickers. When approaching a kicker or landing a jump, it provides perfect control, hold and support. A little downside is the forward lean adjustment, which is still a bit clumsy, especially when wearing mittens. The Cartel X is lighter and stronger than the Cartel, and I would definitely recommend it to experienced riders who know what they are doing. This binding is a super responsive high-performance machine which should of course be used with stiffer boots and boards.
