Canon's third generation 12x36 IS III Image Stabilized Binoculars feature the proprietary IS system adapted from the lens systems to create this compact optic that compensates for hand-shake to make them ideal for a long day of bird or nature-watching and sporting events. Utilizing Vari-Angle prisms placed between the front lens and the main prism, when the internal gyro sensors vertical or horizontal detect movement they direct the prisms to compensate and correct for external the shaking to produce smoother views and panning. A microcomputer, outfitted with proprietary algorithms, enhances IS operation, aids shorter startup times, and enable more efficient energy consumption. Beyond the image stabilization performance are optical features that improve image overall image quality. This begins with Canon's anti-reflection Super Spectra multicoatings to reduce light loss and improve image contrast. Next, they employ a Porro prism optical path that provides a rich depth of field to enable users to better judge distance between objects and a comfortable long 14.5mm eye relief. A doublet field-flattener corrects spherical aberration for distortion-free views, especially at the edges, and wide angle 60° apparent angle of view deliver a truly immersive observational experience. The binoculars run on two included and readily available AA batteries that will power the binoculars for up to nine hours at 77°F. Designed for portability and ease-of-use, they measures in with a compact length of 6.9" and weighs just over 23 oz.

Amazing for astronomy

Press the magic button and it’s stable as a tripod mounted set, perhaps even more so since your eye lids bumping it are canceled out. That makes all the difference when viewing the heavens. The Pleiades looks gorgeous in these, as does the moon, as does Orion and the Milky Way. Buy a decent aftermarket case, the canon one is lousy- for near $800 they could do so much better. The only problem with these bins is they’ll ruin you for anything else, you’ll be looking for that magic button. I’m not much of a birder, but these do very well on nature walks too!

I Purchased these binoculars last month through this company. I spoke with an individual Dave who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The binoculars are lightweight and high-quality and meet and exceed my expectations for performance. I also purchased crooked horn binocular harness and neoprene lens covers for the front of the binoculars which work wonderfully. The product is excellent and the customer service was knowledgeable and professional. I know these binoculars are water resistant and I cannot speak so far as to whether there are any problems when it is raining as I have not tested them in inclement weather. Probably if I were choosing to be in wet circumstances I would've gone with the waterproof binoculars. The 12 x 36 however are small and do not ... MoreI Purchased these binoculars last month through this company. Customer service is outstanding, however when the equipment arrived the lens was dirty, which I cleaned off.The binoculars are clearly outdated vs the Viper HD 12x pair I own. I didn’t like the stabilizer feature as it didn’t improved my viewing pleasure. Finally the pricing was expensive and they could get more business with a lower price point. Too many companies allow you to return things that are brand new with no questions asked within a certain time frame.

Delighted with these binoculars
11 October 2022

Easy to use and work very well. Bright image! The IS can make a world of difference.I have to agree with other reviews that the rather distant shortest focus (6m) can be a limitation, and as a glasses wearer getting the eye in the best position can take a little time, even with the eyepiece rubber covers folded back. Hence four stars rather than 5. Ideally - try before you buy - perhaps a different brand might suit a glasses wearer better.

Get the 10x30 IS
28 October 2021

First of all I'm a Nikon guy but when it comes to distant objects and lenses I've got to admit that Canon leads the way. So this is my third pair of Canon binos in the last 20 or so years. The first two were 10x30 IS and they were great. The only complaint is the sticky rubber coating. I hope there have been changes and my new pair of binos escapes this problem in the coming years. This pair felt cheaper than my first two.,The focus wheel is too easy to turn but not to the point that I felt it needed to be returned. The only big difference between my new binos and the old is the price. I recommend going with the 10x30 IS and saving hundreds of dollars. Image Stabilization is awesome, as a passenger in a car you can easily scan the highway.

Great for Birding, Tripod not required
30 December 2021

Love the image stabilized binoculars. This is my second pair. Bought Canons' 10x32 many years ago and love them. Wanted something with a bit more power. They are pricey, but if you want to see fine detail while bird watching IS binocular's are the only way to go. I can't compare them to any other brands, but I am a Canon guy. Also have two Canon cameras. Must say, Canon could do better with the soft feel coating on the housing. Like many other people have commented, the coating gets sticky and needs to be removed. At any rate I bought a second pair and I love them. I will give my 10x32 to my wife to use when we go birding.

Great idea, but........
4 May 2022

Was hoping for more. I got them for Christmas and have used them in different settings, hoping that they would improve as I got used to them, but they didn't. I have come to the conclusion that they are not good binoculars. The ability to get a sharp focus is rare, most of the time it's always out of focus. I don't know if it's a quality control problem with the lens, or what. I bought my wife the 10 x 30 IS II, and they are much better. I would find it difficult to recommend them to a friend. I hope the newer models are an improvement over this one, I probably would've asked Santa for an updated model over this one if I knew then what I know now.

Hugh difference-The end of the shakes
22 December 2020

I love a clear image, and have expensive binoculars. But the image is always compromised by hand shake unless the binoculars are mounted on a monopod, and the resolution is effectively diminished. Push the stabilization button, and the image locks on, and so much more of a pleasant experience. I don't know how much I'll use my other binocs with this one around. The resolution appears a tinge less than my Zeiss on a mono-pod, but hand held there is no comparison with the stabilization. In this day of sophisticated electronics, I wonder why stabilization isn't the standard! The only draw backs are 14.5 mm eye relief for us glass wearers, and twist down eyecups may help. The near focus is also long. But these factors are minor compared to the advantage of stabilization.

Long time binocular owner, first time IS user - very happy!
13 October 2022

I own a number of binos of all sizes - from a 8x20 Nikon HG Monarch all the way to a 16x70 Fujinon. But my experience with an IS bino was limited to date, so buying these was the first time I spent any time with an IS version.I recall looking through a couple of IS binos over the years back at astro star parties, but never had a pair more than a quick peek. Plus it was dark, and they were bigger IS binos (Canon 50mm IS).My goal was a pair that was the lightest possible, with higher mag and aperture for mostly daytime / terrestrial use. The 12x36 IS iii struck a nice balance for my needs, and I liked the reviews the iii version were getting over the ii model. After more than a week with them, I'm very pleased with their performance. The 12x36 IS iii struck a nice balance for my needs, and I liked the reviews the iii version were getting over the ii model. After more than a week with them, I'm very pleased with their performance. First off, the optic is good without IS, so that's a great starting point. Then, the stabilized image at 12x is so novel that it makes it a worthwhile tool.Sure, it's not perfect, you still move you may detect slight degree of jitter at times - but I expected that because I spent a long time reading experiences with these. But complaining about that is like saying a cross country airline flight is not adequate because you encountered turbulence along the way. The technology and what you get far outweighs the tiny imperfections in my mind. Also, I like the positioning of the IS button and focus knob - I'm able to hold the button and focus with two different fingers comfortably with minimal disruption. I did like the on / off button of different models more, where you didn't have to hold it down, and I balked a few times and almost passed on these for that reason. But now that I own them and have tried the IS button, I'm satisfied with it.Good product, admirable performance for what they are - sure they're not cheap, but 12x stabilized where you read the numbers on a small sign 200 yards away..... that's worth the price of admission.I think I chose the right version for my needs.

Plus and Minus
10 April 2023

Lensrentals service was excellent as usual.I enjoyed the 12x36 IS binoculars, but the minimum focus distance was too great and became a problem for my use. Also, the focus adjustment racked from min to max too quickly for really fine adjustment. The portability and weight was fine for an IS binocular. Viewing clarity and stabilization good.I ended up buying the Canon 10x42L WP which I prefer much better after comparing. More expensive but greater clarity, 8 ft min focus, finer focus adjustment, and eye cups that work much better for eyeglass wearers. I'm very glad there are choices and that Lensrentals had these available to try before buying.
