A maximum 300mm telephoto focal length helps you to get close to your subject and fill your frame. Making it a great addition to your standard kit lens to help expand your photography. Nano USM allows you to focus on your subject quickly, smoothly and quietly. This makes this lens ideal for capturing still shots of fast moving subjects, as well as uninterrupted soundtracks and natural looking pull-focus transitions while moviemaking. A 9-bladed circular aperture helps to separate your subject from its surroundings and create beautiful background blur. Integrated, specialised UD lens elements, also help to reduce chromatic aberration, and retain high resolution, high quality images throughout the zoom range. An innovative Lens Information Display has been positioned at the top of the lens to show key information at a glance, even in poor lighting conditions. This is incredibly useful if you’re shooting a movie using live view to ensure your shot is steady, and also allows you to check the focus distance and depth of field at the various apertures. Weighing 710g and measuring 14.55cm when retracted, EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM is an ideal lens for shooting on locations and when travelling.

A sharp and useful lens. Its a keeper!

This lens is sharp in the full zoom range from 70-300mm. Tested it using maximum aperture 70, 100, 200 and 300mm. Of course is very sharp at f5.6-f8. I like that it is not too heavy or bulky. Works well with Canon RP + EF-RF adapter. Canon T2i, Canon 1DS Mk II. Image stabilisation in the lens work well and increases the sharp picture rate. Overall a very good lens.

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM is a recommended buy if you are looking to shoot distant subjects, whether that’s wildlife, sport, or just to give you more flexibility in general.

This second generation Canon EF 70-300mm lens is a great addition to my Canon EOS 70D arsenal and it's perfect for wildlife photos. The bokeh is beautiful just as described. Being retired, I have the time to sit patiently on my patio waiting for hummingbirds and hoping for that perfect photo. Ah, retirement is great when you have photography as a hobby!

GREAT zoom range! Sharp!

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM has very fast and silent AF. It is a full-frame lens, not a small lens but it handles extremely well with smooth zoom action. The manual focus ring at front focuses with a smooth action although it is not a mechanical linkage, it is focus-by-wire.This is a medium weight lens. It weighs 1.5 lbs (750g) and can be awkward in small hands. The lens diameter is 3.1 inches. It balances well on the Canon R7.Bokeh wide-open is excellent at all focal lengths. Well built and a superb performer regardless of the price. That Canon can sell it at such a reasonable price is very surprising. It is an amazingly good deal.

Great value with the lens, one flaw
11 January 2019

I recently purchased this lens for a budget telephoto to bring on a photography trip up the Oregon Coast. I specifically chose this lens for the 200-300mm capabilities to capture distant subjects from the coastline (waves, rock formations, lighthouses, etc.). In my experience, this lens is great to capture close up shots of images at a slight distance, or scenery/landscapes at a great distance, for a moderate budget.Pros:Nice build, sleek, contemporary. Lightweight compared to other long range telephoto lenses and definitely a step up from other non "L" canon lenses. The ergonomics are great. Lightweight compared to other long range telephoto lenses and definitely a step up from other non "L" canon lenses. The ergonomics are great. Held up nicely in extreme coastal weather against wind, sea spray, etc (although a UAV filter was on to protect the front element).Image stabilization is first class, especially helpful at the long end of the zoom range. Auto-focus is lightning fast, almost to the point where you wonder if the AF is actually on because it was so fast it's hard to see it at work. The first day I used this lens, I actually found myself de-focusing the lens on purpose and then re-focusing to make sure it was happening.Excellent sharpness in the images, even at long distance wide open. At the short to medium range, the image quality is fantastic. Sharp, good contrast, natural saturation, just all around good quality.Cons:Full extended from about 220mm - 300mm the image quality starts to really lose contrast and saturation, at multiple apertures (although sharpness is still fine). Fully extended, the images at great distance had a "washed" look. Now, this can be corrected in post-processing by adjusting curves and adding contrast, but it can be meticulous to insure the finished photo doesn't look over-edited. I understand that using a UV filter or atmospheric conditions (haze, smog, etc) when shooting over a great distance can affect the contrast, but this lens in particular seems a bit more prone to it.With all of that being said, a 70-300mm focal range with incredible image stabilization, razor sharp photos, lightning fast auto-focus, and a great physical build with lightweight is 100% worth the purchase compared to the extra expensive L series lenses. Considering you can correct it's one major flaw in post processing, it's a great bargain.

One Very Good Lens
25 September 2022

I've only used this lens for a few months but it is now my main one. It's clarity is great which translates into some very detailed reproductions. The Auto Focus (A/F) is incredibly fast and quiet. The weight is a factor but quite manageable. This is not the zoom Canon throws in with their T7 kits. Zoom numbers 70-300 are similar but this one's IS II USM. and it's pricier but if you're moving up, this beauty is (Old School) impressive.

Poor Quality Control at Canon
2 December 2021

I purchased this lens for my birthday 12/2020. I had to send it back to B&H. They sent me anotherin Jan 2021 and had to send that one back. They sent me another in Feb2021 and had to send that back all because all brand new lenses had dust in the lens. B&H were great with returns and returning my money. The one fellow said wait for a new shipment, or get to Canon directly with the one new lens for them to clean. I decided I would wait.Purchase a refurbished one on Canon USA Nov 2021 and guess what it had dust in the lens.So I say what is going on with Canon? Plus refurbished, shouldn't the dust have been removed? I looked at another store for used and out of 14 lenses for sale only 4 had NO DUST IN THEM.(Listed in the description)

Took Great photos when working
19 July 2022

I waited and waited for this to come into stock again at Best Buy. When the lens was working took great action photos. Then it randomly started shutting down. I would get a lens error then messages saying camera must shut down. Then the camera couldn't shut down or turn off so to the point that I had to take the battery out of the camera to restart it. I was so disappointed that I had to return it. Best Buy was out of stock again so couldn't even try another one to see if first was defective.

Well worth the money!
18 December 2021

So it's not cheap by any means, but in comparison to an L lens it's pretty affordable.I'll start by saying I find the LCD to be a useless gimmick, especially on a full frame. It doesn't show anything I would want to find on that LCD vs what lv would display. However when trying some moon shots on an old crop sensor body I did find it neat that it applied the 1.6x crop value to your zoom. Again kind of useless but neat in that respect. My copy is very sharp! Even at 70mm the images are very good and only get better once I zoom out a bit. Whether the aperture is wide open or closed up I'm very happy with the IQ of this lens. The autofocus is crazy quick! It makes my 24-105 f4l autofocus seem like some old STM af lens. The image stabilization works very very good as ... MoreSo it's not cheap by any means, but in comparison to an L lens it's pretty affordable.I'll start by saying I find the LCD to be a useless gimmick, especially on a full frame. Even hand held shots at 1/15 shutter speeds work out pretty well if you do your part. The build quality is very good both focus and zoom rings are smooth, the barrel has minimal play and the weight is great for a larger zoom.If photography is a hobby of yours and you need some zoom for a good price I wouldn't hesitate to try this lens.I was very tempted to grab the mk I version for less than half the price, however after watching numerous reviews on the 1st version and this one. It looked like the mk2 was better in every way.

taking some practice
2 April 2023

Got this lens for a Canon 70D for wildlife photography. Was using the 55-250 very successfully. Still practicing with holding it steady when at 300mm but am enjoying it and willing to practice. Wanted a lens that had a decent zoom but was lightweight as it is used while hiking and without a tripod. Returned the Tamron 18-400 as felt the autofocus was not grabbing on as well as it should and felt when at 400 was a bit soft. Was willing to give up some zoom for a lens that was easier to use, focus and carry while hiking. So far happy with this purchase.
