Excellent Camera and even more Excellent Support I wanted to get the R5 with kit 24-105 L F4, but that was sold out for a long time. Hence when R5 body and 24-105 lens was available separately I took the plunge and purchased it. Im upgrading from a Canon Rebel T2i 550D and obviously the full frame mirrorless body was a significant upgrade. Just love the way it grips and the 24-105 F4 is plenty sharp! One issue i faced right off the bat was my battery wouldnt charge! I tired all the permutations and combinations tried several power outlets, tried charging it inverted nothing worked. My charger would always start Rapid Blinking and I could never charge it past 60% I contacted Canon Support and they were super helpful. They understood the issue and sent a new battery ... MoreExcellent Camera and even more Excellent Support I wanted to get the R5 with kit 24-105 L F4, but that was sold out for a long time. Great Sensor Stack I’m not a typical Canon shooter in that I don’t use native lens much. Instead I use a few Contax Zeiss lens. One of them is 35mm f/1.4, which is an old manual lens that shines with my old 5D Mark II. I didn’t expect R5 to deliver much sharpness with this lens because of extra resolution probably won’t resolve beyond what the lens limit shows on 5D Mark II. However, what surprised me is how sharp the old lens shows on R5. I further tested with a wide angle ZM lens 21mm f/2.8. This is a stress test because those m mount lens have much acute ray exit angles that only sensor with no filter like Leica M can handle. It turns out the result is excellent to say the least. In other words, I believe R5 sensor stack for whatever reason is maximizing the lens ... MoreGreat Sensor Stack I’m not a typical Canon shooter in that I don’t use native lens much. R5 is one of the best hybrid mirrorless cameras that wont fail you if you know how to use it and have the accessories that complement its use. I was one of the many photo-videographers who were sitting on the fence because of that bad boy video recording overheating. Prior to my purchase, I watched a lot of YouTube videos to educate myself very well about video record overheating which has become the obvious first thing people say when you talk about R5. Long story short. I received my order from BH on Saturday, 06/19/2020. My curiosity was very high so I immediately set it up with NinjaV, which I recommend any serious videographer to own one. 1. I removed the CFexpress and SD cards from the camera. 2. I put 2TB of SSD in NinjaV and plug it to external power. 3. I .
Take time to set it up properly for your objectives, the results will come I am giving this camera 5 stars because in the very short time that I have had it, it has done everything that I expected of it. However, I have spent a ton of time preparing to use the camera because the options in the set up are seemingly endless, and having the camera do what you want it to do requires attention to set up. Luckily, there are endless videos on You Tube from users who share how they have set up the camera for their specific uses, and they are very helpful. The Canon manual is, I believe, 932 pages PDF, which is indicative of how complicated things can be. I have used the camera three times so far, to shoot birds, and have been pleased. I am concerned about noise at ISO 3200, and will see if that is reasonable, or if it can be abated. Or, whether I need to go down. I dont know yet. Shooting with the mechanical shutter so far, at 12 frames per second has been wonderful. I am very pleased with that function.
Seamless transition from 5D series Excellent image quality and very clean images at moderately high ISOs. Shadow detail is miles ahead of 5D IV and no banding. The AF system is stellar. It focuses through peepholes for apertures. It snaps a slow telephoto f6.3 with 2x TC to Jupiter or Saturn in the night sky flawlessly! The AF with my RF-EF adapter is better than on my 5D IV with EF lenses, Canon , Sigma or Tamron. I dont see the need to change to RF glass unless there is a particular lens I need, eg 800 f11. Good controls but I sorely miss the three top panel buttons like 5D had. Canon can learn about customization options from Lumix. At almost 4k the buttons should have been backlit like D850. Viewfinder and screen are exceptional.
Great camera! I ordered this camera when it was initially released. I can say mostly good things about it. The good part is it just works properly as one would expect, no major gotchas. Yep, thats the standard in 2022. Its not fantastic, and its not exquisite image quality, but its very good across the board. The dynamic range is good, the color is good, the AF is good, the servo tracking AF is decent, the video is great. I have used mine at dozens of weddings for photo and video, not a lot has gone wrong. I tend to use the RF 28-70mm the most. One thing I like about Canon RF is how well it works with older EF lenses, great stuff. The picture I attached of the Two Geese was taken with EF 20-35mm f/2.8 L. The other two are the RF 28-70mm f/2 L. Oddly, the thing I ... MoreGreat camera! I ordered this camera when it was initially released. I can say mostly good things about it. The other two are the RF 28-70mm f/2 L. Oddly, the thing I like least is the IBIS. Its great for video handheld and its great if you want to mess around with really long 1 second exposures handheld, but in normal photography Im not 100% sure it is helping a whole lot. The annoying part is that when carrying the camera the IBIS is bonking around like a baby rattle. The odd thing is Canon released the R5C and did not put IBIS in that one when it actually seems great for video. For one thing, the IBIS can hide the rolling shutter that can be seen when shaking, so thats one nice thing about IBIS on the R5. Apparently it is cheaper to add in a whole IBIS mechanism than just sell a global shutter sensor.
Amazing Camera - with room for improvement I have had the EOS R5 for nearly 11 months now, coming from previous 5 series bodies 5D Mark II, Mark III and Mark IV, and I can easily say its a huge upgrade. Took some time to get comfortable with the new button layout, however I love being able to cycle through the Custom Modes using the M-Fn button -- no need to turn a dial. The increase in auto-focus points from 61 to 1053 full sensor coverage with Eye Tracking is great, as well as being able to shoot at 20 FPS with the Electronic Shutter. I love photographing wildlife so these are game changers for me. I was originally concerned about the sensor being 45 MPs, however the Compressed RAW format works well and saves space, with the files being smaller than the 5D Mark ... MoreAmazing Camera - with room for improvement I have had the EOS R5 for nearly 11 months now, coming from previous 5 series bodies 5D Mark II, Mark III and Mark IV, and I can easily say its a huge upgrade. I was originally concerned about the sensor being 45 MPs, however the Compressed RAW format works well and saves space, with the files being smaller than the 5D Mark IVs 30 MP. The In-body Image Stabilization IBIS is another great new feature. It certainly makes shooting with non-IS lenses easier. I dont shoot much video, however I love the 120 FPS mode, which has allowed me to capture hummingbirds in flight, among other things. How about 240 FPS in Full HD, Canon? However, overheating while shooting video is still an issue, even with the updated firmware. An improved heat sink would help to address this, as third-parties have shown. A replacement for ZoomBrowser would be welcome, so you could quickly browse and rate .CR3 files.
EOS R5, an incredible camera!! I gave the r5 a five star rating. It deserves more stars but I am limited to five. Previously, I have owned a Canon QL 1.7 ranger finder, AE-1, A2E all previously mentioned are film cameras, after the film days I advanced to the Canon 5D, 5D Mk II, 5D Mk III, and lastly the 5D Mk IV, for DSLRs. I have also used the G9 and Power Shot G7X Mk II for pointshoot cameras when I didnt want to carry my heavy DSLR equipment. I had wished that some of the features of the mirrorless electronic cameras could be incorporated into a DSLR design. Because of the pentaprism and mirror assembly such features could not be incorporated into a DSLR. Now comes the age of mirrorless cameras that will displace the traditional DSLR. Just received the R50 with the kit lens 18-45mm. After reading countless reviews and watching just about all YouTube videos from photographers who received the pre production camera back in January, I decided to purchase this camera over the R7, R10 and the R8. I've previously owned the Sony a6300 and A7III, the Panasonic G95, and the Canon EOS RP. They all very good cameras, but I realized that I will never be a professional wedding or portrait photographer and didn't need those cameras. Also some were a bit heavy, complicated to use and difficult to connect to my IPad or phone to upload photos. I needed a camera that was small, had great image quality, was under $1000 and could easily transfer photos. The R50 is just that camera! I've used it for the last day or so and I am blown away by it. It's weightless and super easy to use. So far there's nothing I can honestly say that I don't like. The quality of the images is on par with the most expensive cameras I've owned. I will get the canon RF-S 18-150 mm lens to use on an upcoming Virgin Cruise lines Mediterranean cruise. Get this camera and you won't regret it. Adorama provides fantastic service! I won't use any other retailer for my camera needs.
