Canon R6 Mark ii Canon RF 50 mm f/1. 2Canon RF 70-200mm f/2. 8I am constantly astounded at how clean and clear the photos are with this equipment. I take photos of musicians playing in small local venues where is it dark with little lighting. This is the most challenging lighting situation that I experience. With the R6 Mark ii combined with Canon RF 50mm f/1. 2 I can see in the dark literally. Clear images with beautiful accurate colours and minimal to no noise. It is astonishing. Love the functionality but including face and eye tracking, the speed of autofocus, the very high ISO, very high speed electronic and mechanical shutter speed to capture moments that would otherwise be missed, and no lag in buffering when saving to fast SD cards. I love saving to two SD cards so I always have a back up. I am able to attach the Canon flash I have from my previous Canon DSLR. I would love for Canon to make video on how to avoid colour banding when using these mirrorless cameras in settings with electronic lights (e. g. LED lights). For Eg, to include a QR code on a card in the box of the R6 Mark ii with a link to a video about shooting indoors with artificial light. In particular, when I shoot indoors with artificial light, I need to use the menu internal settings to check the flicker rate of the electronic lights (like LED lights), because there are waves of light emanating from the light source that we can’t see with the naked eye, but will be captured by the camera, and may be seen as colour bands (or lines of colour) across the photo. And once I use this function I. The Canon R6 Mark ii menu, I am much more confident that the photos I take will be useable. I’m also grateful that the Canon cameras and photos work so well with the Lightroom and other programs, as if there is any noise, it is possible to remove or reduce the noise and produce a high quality image. Thank you for your commitment to high quality cameras and lenses, and to capture true to life colour. These are screenshots of some low res pics I posted on Instagram as @sonicsydney

This is a review of both the R6 and R6ii. In all honestly from both my personal experiences and 4 other professional photographers the entire line of these R Series cameras are a 50/50 when it comes to quality control. Which is very concerning especially if you drop THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for a state of the art camera to have on going issues with. These cameras should be top notch and thoroughly tested with a good success rate so just for everyone please beware. To make a long story short, I orginally purchased the Original R6 when it was first released back in 2020. I was extremley excited as it had practically everything I needed in a camera. But right away i started having a variety of issues. The camera would lock up and freeze on me constantly. I was extremley excited as it had practically everything I needed in a camera. But right away i started having a variety of issues. The camera would lock up and freeze on me constantly. It would happen at random times, i would be doing nothing but taking simple shots in single focus and then it would freeze and i would be stuck having to take the battery out to reset it. The codecs and files would be so harsh on my brand new PC and wouldnt be read. It was just a massive problem to take simple photos and video and upload. The wobble situation in video when using a wide angle was just horrendous and unusable for professional work. After freezing and locking up on me during both a wedding and a bar mitsvah i just couldnt trust it and decided to send it in. Canon had then replaced that one stating that it was defective. On my 2nd copy of the R6 everything was great for about a month. Then i noticed i started to do long exposures for about 90 seconds the camera would randomly just take the exposure at 23 seconds or 40 seconds it kept messing up. I contacted canon again and they stated a new firmware was released to help rectify that issue. Well that firmware update still didnt help. Then my camera after the update started to freeze again. Then about 4 months in with my 2nd copy i got an Err70 code which pretty much bricked my camera. After 2 tries and 2 copies i gave up and went back to my DSLR as it was so much more reliable. Then the r6ii was released. I was able to test one out at a recent 1 week long Photography event and i was seriously blown away! it was probably the best camera autofocusing systems i had ever used. Everything ran completley smooth, no freezing locks ups, not a single issue the entire time. After my experience i felt like they made drastic and great improvements from the original version. So i decided to buy a R6ii. Well guess what just to my luck upon getting the camera the Focusing system was doing the strangest of things it would almost half way focus on a subject and be in focus on the left but not in the midlde and then be focused on the right again. This time i purchased it from best buy. When i took it back to best buy with my warranty they sent it into canon. Canon stated that it had a misaligned sensor and it needed to be replaced. JUST WOW! i was then given my now recent copy of the R6ii and it actually works perfectly after about 6 months of use it has not given me a single problem. So the fact that these cameras are great i feel that the quality control is still a serious serious issue. So just be cautious. I have friends who have purcahsed the R5, R6 and Eos R and 3/8 copies have failed on them. As long as they work as they are supposed to i feel that they are FANTASTIC CAMERAS.

I love a full frame for landscapes and people.Don't get me wrong the R6 is a very good camera, but the 20Mp sensor was just a little bit lacking for my tastes and the autofocus wasn't as good as the R7 which was little annoying. After considerable thought the R6ii seemed like it might fit the bill a little better, but I didn't expect too much difference. I pretty much always buy Canon refurbished cameras and lenses as they represent such a good value for my lifestyle. And sometimes they are an incredible value, especially around the holidays. Essentially it is like buying new, but without the original box and the original price.Well it was better than I imagined it would be. The 24mp sensor acts like the 30mp sensor that was in my 5D Mark IV. The autofocus is substantially better and the low light characteristics are still in line with the R6. All positives. The R6ii is a very noticeable improvement over the R6. I am not a fan of the on/off/lock switch as I could do without the lock part of it. At first I really didn't like the Video/still switch on the left side, but after using it I didn't mind it at all. But mostly it is typical Canon. Well designed, easy to use, yet extremely customizable, and just works beautifully.Mostly I have been using it with many of the smaller primes and a few L lenses. I really like it with the 1.4x and the 100-500 and the 1/4x and the 100-400. The R6ii handles diffraction so much better than the R7 which you would expect. It simply just fills the void that R7 creates. I also don't have near the problem with rolling shutter as I did with the R6 and do with the R7.I have zero regrets stepping up from the R6 to the R6ii and would highly recommend this camera.

My R5 was stolen so I got the R6 mk2 and I wasn’t sure I could live with the 24 megapixels. As it turns out there are several things I like about it more than my R5. I shot some images at 25600 iso and I was amazed at how clean and usable the images were (when exposed correctly). In my estimation the R6MK2 is about a full stop better when it comes to shooting high ISO. I also think the dynamic range is slightly better. It has the same autofocus system as the R3 and it is better than the already great R5. The raw burst mode is pretty cool as it packs kind of like the pre shooting mode on the R5 mk2 (although it is a bit more cumbersome). The 40 frames per second shooting speed is ridiculously good and I don’t hit the buffer that often. The 40 frames per second shooting speed is ridiculously good and I don’t hit the buffer that often. I have only been shooting in electronic shutter mode and the rolling shutter is very minimal (I actually haven’t noticed at all) and it’s better than my R5. I don’t shoot much video but I can say that it’s nice to not have a 30 minute maximum time limit of continuous video shooting. There isn’t an over heating issue either. I’ve read and been told that the 6k over sampling is better than the 8k of the R5 but again I’m not much of a video shooter. There are many other smaller features that the R5 doesn’t have as well.Overall the only drawback is the 24 megapixel sensor not being a 45 megapixel sensor. But I have tried some heavy cropping to test it and I was very pleasantly surprised at the detail I got. Plus if you have Gigapixel you can upsize cropped images. So ultimately I honestly like it better than my R5… that is strange to say but it really is an amazing camera especially for the price.
Body came in a plain brown package without much of anything except the shoulder strap and battery/battery charger. If you are buying a refurb, know that you won't be seeing any retail packaging. Body is 100% perfect so far, but I've not had a really good test run. Had to call Canon to find out exactly what refurb means, but basically function is checked, sensor cleaned, and software updated. I wish Canon would tell you how many shutter accuations were on this body, but no dice. I was lucky enough to have access to Canon reps at a local photo shop event and they checked the accuations and my new body had 4,000 shutter clicks before I got it. This probably would have affected my decision to buy, (probably why they don't tell you), and I would have purchased a brand ... MoreBody came in a plain brown package without much of anything except the shoulder strap and battery/battery charger. This probably would have affected my decision to buy, (probably why they don't tell you), and I would have purchased a brand new body as a result. Despite these issues, I will keep this body for now and see how it works out. The R6mk2 has a good feel in hand and has some really well-placed and well-marked controls. Ease of use is high -even for a pro used to the 5Dmk4. I also purchased an RF 24-105 as this will be used in studio as well as on location shoots. What I like a lot is that it is a full frame, 24MP camera which is perfect for most any use. Unless you are shooting for billboards, 24MP is plenty of resolution -any higher and you'll find that working with the images in an editing program is challenging due to the enormous size of the files. This 24MP size allows crisp, clear images without fear of the computer grinding to a halt. I suggest adding the battery grip to your purchase if you plan to take this out shooting for an extended period of time. For any mirrorless camera, batteries are a lifeline and having extra power available means extra time shooting in the field. The R6mk2 is definitely a gem in the R series lineup and worthy of your attention if you are looking for full frame resolution in a advanced hobbyist/semi pro style body. As a pro, I choose to use the R6 for two reasons: 1) I don't need 45MP images 2) It saves me $1,000 for basically the same camera. If you are serious about your photography and want to invest in a mirrorless system, you can do no better than the R6mk2.
Its quite a change, really...... the video side is enough to do it IF YOU SHOOT VIDEO. But the photo side, which is what I do most, is excellent as well. There are a BUNCH of things that are different, however. One of the big ones is that if you turn on any of the smarter focus options you then have to learn a new shooting workflow, specifically using the drag functions on the screen or you'll get rapidly frustrated. I had star-button-to-focus set on my 5d3 and had run that way on Canon dSLRs for a heck of a long time -- but its not the best model to use on this at all as you have to shut off ALL the smart stuff or the camera will lock on the wrong thing sometimes (especially in servo focus mode) and its verrrrry hard to convince it to shift once it does. This is not to bag on focus accuracy -- its excellent and very fast -- but you get relearn what works for you as a photographer. It took a bit to get there. The high-speed options are quite different too. Specifically, one of the high speed options does not black out of the EVF at all while firing and the other does. That's a big change as with the 5d3 of course the mirror moves so there's that. All in all I like it a lot, and with the inexpensive adapter all my existing glass works great, so there's that as well. An all day walk around shooting experience used very little power from the battery so I have no fear there, and access to the battery and card slots with an ARCA plate on it is unobstructed which for me is a major requirement.I've been a holdout for a long time but decided to pop for the (rather significant) cost and am not sorry I did it -- its a nice camera, and one that I suspect will work for me on a forward basis for a good long while.
I went from a 6D to an R and was blown away by the upgrades. The autofocus, the bursting, the high ISO capabilities... I didn't think it could get much better. Then, I tried the R6 Mark II and was blown away again.I'm a concert photographer, so I need speed, high ISO and now decent video capabilities. You get that with this camera. Bursting is more than enough, even on mechanical shutter (Electronic is maybe too fast for my needs, but sometimes I used it. There's hardly any sign of rolling shutter). Anything shot above ISO 12800 is usable even without denoising. With denoising in post (I personally use DxO PureRaw) I can shoot at ISO 51200 and get a clean photo. The dynamic range at higher ISOs is MUCH better than the R (which was much better than the 6D). The ... MoreI went from a 6D to an R and was blown away by the upgrades. It has sped up my post workflow tremendously. There's no more cropping when shooting 4k video! I can finally shoot FF without an external recorder. 4k 120fps is more than enough for what I need and it's super easy to switch back and forth between photo and video mode with the dedicated switch (you still have the record button for shooting video while in still mode, but I like the switch so it remembers my M video settings).Another plus is even though it ships with, and suggests, using the new LP-E6NH batteries, the old LP-E6 batteries still work. I can still get through an entire show (~ 3 hours and 1,400 photos) on an old LP-E6.Are there 'better' Canon R-line cameras available right now? Sure. But this price point to feature ratio is unbeatable right now. The only reason I could see ever getting another body would be for more video features, but those aren't things I need at the moment. This will cover almost every still shooters video needs.
For me, this camera and lens has raised the bar for quality, comfort and performance. Both are extremely well designed and constructed. They have a premium feel and quality. And the features and performance are outstanding. While I haven't used every competing product on the market, it's my understanding that this camera's subject detection autofocus is second to none and based on my experience, I believe that to be true. Set it to auto detect the subject and focus point and it makes the right choice the vast majority of the time. The ergonomics are fantastic; I've never used a more comfortable camera with such useful controls within reach. I'm very happy with the image quality as well in both photo and video modes; at 24 MP I'm getting enough resolution and detail with low noise even at higher ISO levels, and manageable file sizes. No, it's not a BSI nor stacked sensor, but in practice that seems to be more of a concern on paper than it is in practice, at least for me. I love the new-to-me CRAW file format which gives me smaller file sizes while maintaining the editability of RAW. Dual SD card slots for durability of my data without the expense of CF Express, and it's fast enough for my needs. Similarly, I love the range, quality, size, weight and performance of the 24-105mm f/4 lens for the price, and f/4 is fast enough for my needs. This kit hits the sweet spot, perfectly balancing all the variables I care about.
Well, I purchased two 5Ds R cameras from BHphoto more than a years ago. Both are good cameras for shooting high contrast scenes. However, 5Ds Rs revealed horrible autofocus performance on a cloudy day. I complained to Canon about the 5Ds Rs, and recently purchased R6 Mark II from Canon eStore. It does a lot better job in autofocusing in low contrast conditions. However, chrominance noise is very high under low light, low contrast conditions. Image stabilization also suffers a lot under low light, low contrast conditions. DPP4 software is not up to even average consumer standards. It is annoyingly sluggish with CR3 file format on a professional image processing workstation. No OpenGL hardware acceleration, no CUDA or OpenCL image processing. It is annoyingly sluggish with CR3 file format on a professional image processing workstation. No OpenGL hardware acceleration, no CUDA or OpenCL image processing. The latter is the main reason why release of Canon R5 Mark II, or R1 has been delayed for so long time. It is time to wake up, Canon, before it is too late, and make PRO grade Digital Photo Professional 5, that would handle both CR3 and upcoming CR4 file formats professionally. Also, it is time to learn about hdf5 file format, and also learn that BSI sensor is a MUST!!! Having best colors (color science) on the market is not enough to win over Sony!!! Stay away from R5, R6 and R6 MII. R3 sounds like a good camera, but has 24 MPix BSI sensor instead of 36 Mpix BSI sensor. The latter, absence of a 36 MPix BSI is likely Canon Marketing Management to blame for...
