But I want the pictures that I take to be spectacular! :) I've owned Canons all my life, but the G12 was my absolute favorite. It is located right under the thumb rest/camera grip. I can't tell you how many accidental videos I have recorded in less than one month of owning this camera!On the upside though, it has tons of really cool features. Most are way above my pay grade for me to understand, but I'm learning. I just returned from a trip to Ireland and even in Auto mode have some of the richest, most vibrant pictures! I went into the trip thinking I would probably return the camera, but after seeing my pics I have decided to keep it.And as usual, Adorama was awesome to deal with!

As an owner of both a Canon 7D and 5D Mark iii, I am so disappointed in not being able to take either of these cameras to a concert or sporting event and only being able to use an iPhone to take pictures. I wanted something small without detachable lenses and opted for the G7X, especially since it can shoot RAW. I took it to a concert last weekend and the picture quality was incredible! However, the 24-100mm didn't have the reach I needed for such an event so I returned it and am purchasing the G3X instead. I took a few landscape shots with it and took the same shots with my 5D Mark iii with a 24-70 L lens and to the novice, the same pictures side by side looked about the same. Outside of the battery mishap, I was very happy with the pictures I took of the concert but as stated earlier, returned this camera only because it didn't reach out far enough for my liking.

Usually I spend around $250 for a "nice" camera. This one cost me $450, which is a deal for this model, and due to the fact there is no manufacturer's warranty, just the retailer's warranty. The camera is a bit big and heavy: for those that place the highest priority on those things it may not be right for you. The housing is metal and it feels sturdy. Haven't dropped it yet (knock on wood) but I think it could handle a light drop. The G7X takes fantastic pictures. Pictures in dimly lit places like restaurants and without using flash! It only has 4.2X zoom, but with 20 mega-pixels, you can digitally zoom in and not be that much worse than a 12 MP camera on pure optical zoom. The selfie touch screen also works for overhead shots- just put the camera upside down and fold the screen out to ninety degrees or so, then put it overhead and take your shot over the crowd. If I remember right, it even knows it was upside down and flips the picture over for viewing. I've heard bad things about battery life but I haven't taken iton a vacation yet to really push it. It has an "ECO" mode that puts the camera to sleep after a very short time to safe power, and that is super-annoying since it takes a few seconds to wake back up after going to sleep. So it's not perfect, but it is head and shoulders above the $200 compact point and shoots and way cheaper than the Sony RX 100 cameras, which I heard are only marginally better.
