I find the camera to be excellent for its size. It's plastic but it feels very solid and looks good.The lack of dedicated knobs is not that frustrating, and it is actually easy to get used to as the touch-screen is very well implemented. Some people commented that it is difficult to access basic settings, but that's only in AUTO mode; use P mode instead and you can access all the settings pretty easily without having to search through menus.The only cons I can think of for now are that:a) No 4k video, which personally I couldn't care less for.b)You can't shoot RAW files in the AUTO mode, but you can in every other mode. White balance is quite good, focusing is decent and you can operate it as a fully manual camera if you want to (not as quick to set the settings as with a DSLR, but it's ok for general photography).If there is one area this camera is weak at, it would be action shots, due to the absence of dedicated knobs for aperture and shutter speed. But if you use Av or Tv modes the meter does a pretty good job.

At one point the lens cover stopped opening and closing all the way, but the grit that was causing it to bind eventually worked its way out. Great little machine. Very capable. And I think it was a bargain back in 2017, and even moreso now in 2020. Sure, an RX100 is a "better" camera for everything you're trying to accomplish here (compact, good photo quality). They share the same sensor size, but the RX100 has a faster brain and a longer zoom. But is it *twice* as good? I don't know.. for my money, i'd buy this camera again if I lost it tomorrow.

Some may find the lens too restrictive as far as focal length is concerned but that's one of the tradeoffs you have to make when you stuff a larger sensor in a small camera body. If you have the original G9X, this is not the no-brainer upgrade. But if you're a new buyer to this series, it's worthwhile to spend the extra money to get the Mark II for the extra features and slight bump in overall performance it provides.

This camera has a lot of functionality - different modes and settings to choose from including auto (the auto setting takes great pictures without much fuss). It takes good quality video. And its a stylish camera too.The biggest downside is the app/software for this camera. I never could figure out how to link it to my cell phone to record the GPS coordinates or to download pictures via WIFI to my computer. I think its just as easy to plug the card into the computer and download the files that way. The app/software for my Sony point and shoot was way easier to use. To be fair, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this so you might have better luck than I did. Plus, they might update the app/software to make it easier to use. Battery life isn't great, but extra batteries aren't that expensive - its a good idea to carry a spare.To summarize, if you are looking for a good compact camera that takes great pictures (sharp focus, great color, good in low-light) this is an excellent choice. It has a lot of functionality and features - but the plain vanilla auto mode takes very good pictures too. The size is very handy and fits easily in your pocket or purse. If you shoot a lot of pictures or are going on a trip you should probably get a spare battery. I highly recommend this camera.
Update 2: I am glad to report I am still in love with this camera. Took it to multiple trips and very happy with colorful pictures we've got. Easy to carry around! I highly recommend to get a second battery even though original hold a charge for almost full day.On another note I want to point out this camera is mostly to impress non-professional photographers and for family/household use. Yes, it's not as good as professional cameras are, but it's very affordable digital camera to carry around. The pictures we take now is way better quality we used to with our old outdated sony digital camera. I am not a professional, so having kids, I wanted to make sure we have good quality pictures of them growing. I did a lot of research, compared this model to previous, compared this to Canon PowerShot SX730 (loved rotating screen and the zoom!) , to other brands (Sony DSC-RX100, Fujifilm X70 ), and decided to go with this one.Cool-Small, relatevly easy to use (my first Canon ever so I am getting used to it).I am still learning menu and settings. With online help learned how to take a picture of moving kids (using "M" on the dial instead of Auto). Discovered pretty cool settings under "SCN" including taking pictures of night scene, portrait and using different effects.Bluetooth is not working with my cell phone, but my cell phone is off brand. I need to try with other cell phones. At least I can transfer through wifi. As for the laptop, I plug memory card directly to my laptop so no issues here.Quality of pictures inside the house with low light or outside without flash is crazy amazing!Attached sample pictures were done on auto, first with low light inside the house and no flash (other older sony camera I had showed pretty much nothing because it was too dark for the camera), and last - at night. I bought this camera to update from my very old existing point-and-shoot to use when traveling and just on-the-go everyday life things. The only feature I found myself missing was the ability to take panoramic photos like you can easily on a phone, but I was able to take normal photos and then stitch them using Canon's photostitch software later with a few photoshop edits and they looked great. Touch screen is pretty intuitive, I sometimes found myself accidentally changing the image size I wanted without realizing it, but I recently found you can lock the touch screen panel to avoid that.I attached pics of a variety of shots, all have little to no editing done to them except the one pano which I stitched together later on my computer.
