Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM wide-angle, fixed focal length lens affordably expands your options with the EOS R System. Great for still photography and videography, the RF24mm can provide drama in your still images, and has a wide field of view for vlogging, while still maintaining a natural look. The bright f/1.8 aperture also does wonders for your images. Not only can you achieve beautiful, soft backgrounds, but you can shoot in more available light situations than you could with a slower lens. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM also comes with built-in Optical Image Stabilization to further enhance your low-light shooting abilities by providing up to 5.5 stops* of shake correction, and up to 6.5 stops with coordinated IS. The RF24mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM is surprisingly light and compact while still providing a very solid feel. Another unexpected feature of this lens is its close-focusing capability. It can focus continuously down to half life-size magnification making this prime lens even more versatile. No matter what you end up doing with this lens, you will be rewarded with high-quality images that can take your photography to the next level.

Excellent choice with Canon R8

I'm trying to find lightweight solution with new Canon R8 camera for everyday use and travelling. After reviewing all the options with L zoom lenses and other variants, i decided to buy this new lens. It is quite cheap compared to the L-based fast aperture variants and at the same time has a very necessary optical stabilisation, given that the canon r8 has no IBIS inside. Lens perfectly crisp at center with open f1.8 and totally crisp on whole frame starting from f2,8. Distortion and Vignetting perfectly corrected in camera software or Lightroom presents, only one bad thing it's slightly stretched objects at corners of images when you corrected it by software. I picked up this lens to replace my EF 24mm f/2.8 (gradually going from EF to RF lenses). Comparing them side by side on my R6 for the same scene, they are optically very close, which is to say very good. The EF lens is very sharp of course across the fame, down to the corners. Comparing them at f/2.8, the same is true for the RF lens. At f/1.8, the corners are slightly soft, but I'm not planning to put my subject in the corner when shooting at f/1.8. The center and mid portions of the frame are very sharp side open, so this lens will work well for environmental portraits and such. And for landscapes, I stop down anyway. After those comparisons, I plan to sell my EF lens and keep this one. I own the EF 24mm f/1.4 II and was looking for a fast similar lens for my R5's. This really fit nicely into my travel pack. While it is not an L lens the price is great. The difference between f/1.4 and f/1.8 in my opinion is negligible and the weight difference is about 50% of that of the EF lens. This is a sharp fast lens.

Great street photography lens
11 January 2023

The 24mm ficak length has long been a favorite, whether Nikon, Leica or in this case Canon. The EF 24mm L USM is a fantastic lens for which the RF 24mm f/1.8 is our only mirrorless option. Although not an L the RF holds its own as a tack sharp super fast street lens. Plenty of foreground. Great story telling potential. I only wish there was an RF L version which I hear may be in the works for late 2023. As of now this RF 24mmwill have to do. Did I mention it's an IS! Indeed an image stabilized 24mm with a superfastf/1.8 speed is not just the only option in town but a very GOOD option for the mirrorless line. At $600 it's well worth it till the L shows up later this year.

Love this HIGHLY VERSATILE Lens!
23 June 2023

I recently purchased the awesome Canon R10 and needed a versatile lens to create my indoor videos with, along with some outdoor photography and some video as well. Then came along this recent lens offering from Canon and I chose it over the Canon RF 16mm and RF 35mm. The RF 35mm is a highly reputable lens in the lineup but was too big for my needs. I mostly use this 24mm lens for creating my indoor YouTube videos. And even in shooting at 1080p, It looks like 4K when it gets on the channel screen! It was a great choice and right now is my standard go-to lens I want to have on the ready when I need it. It was a great purchase and I don't see how anyone would be disappointed with this lens! I can't imagine any R10 owner being without it in their camera bag!

Nice Astro and low light lens
30 October 2022

My first foray into astrophotography went surprisingly well. Paired with an R6 body, I had very good results. It's also very handy in dark interiors when flash can't be used. Light weight and small size make if easy to stash in a corner of your camera bag. Love that it can be switched to manual focus without going into the camera menu. Lots to love here!

RF lenses are pretty great
30 January 2023

I'm actually really impressed with the RF line of non-professional lenses. I've purchased a few of them now (16mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm). I'm impressed with the 24mm and 35mm that they offer macro and in-lens stabilization. These are small and light weight but well built and feel solid. My plan is to use them mainly for gimbal work, video and hiking and backpacking. I'm somewhat tempted to bring them to a wedding reception- especially the 16mm and 24mm for fun dance floor photos.

Shallow DOF and Macro too!
23 November 2022

On my Canon R7 this lens performs excellent. Bokeh is quite nice at 1.8. Macro gets down to 1:2 which is perfect for everything except maybe small insects. Super light making my R7 a great walk around camera.

So far so good
7 October 2022

I like this lens. Build quality is the same as the 35mm. Its priced higher for some reason but i do like this focal length. Images shot from my EOS RP in 1.8. Images look sharp despite me being an enthusiast at best. Happy with my purchase. Its extremely lightweight which is why i wanted this lens. Is it the same quality as an L series lens? No but for my level of experience it works just fine.

Wide minus distortion
16 June 2023

I have the RF 24-70mm 2.8. I initially didn't see a benefit to the 24mm prime. I also use the RF 35mm 1.8. However when I got this on my R6 I became a believer. This prime is sharp with a better fall off than my zoom. It's a great landscape lens. However it also shines in group photos and composition scenes. It offer near macro shots but it can't get as close as the 35mm and 85mm in my test shots. This is a good lens to add to your RF kit. It is more versatile than expected.
