The RP with the RF 50mm f/1.8 hangs unobtrusively around your neck and I'veeven managed to stuff that combo into a larger jacket pocket and cargo pants pocket. A tight fit but it works. I use this lens professionally and personally and have encountered few situations where a faster lens would have made my pics meaningfully better. My style of photography usually doesn't require a wider aperture than f/1.8 on a 50mm lens. The lens is great if not world class when shot wide open and I don't hesitate to use it that way when I needto. It improves as you would expect when stopped down. By f/4 it's an absolute razor, competitive with L glass. Autofocus is fast though not the fastest I've seen, and while the focus motor isn't virtually silent like the best USM lenses, it's never intrusive while shootingstills. Make no mistake, the mighty 50mm f/1.2 is superior in most ways, particularly when shot at their widest common aperture, but in my mind it's not remotely good enough to justify the price differencevs the f/1.8 version unless you have a legit need for f/1.2. If you are on a budget and need a quality prime, this is your lens. Even if money is no object and you want the most compact general-purpose lens available for EOS R series cameras, this is your lens. At this price you can't go wrong. Just buy it.

This is a very good lens for the price. It's reasonably sharp, but not necessarily tack sharp wide open, but stop down a little bit it performs very well in the center and edges.It's a very good, inexpensive all around lens. It does not have stabilization, so on a non stabilized body like my RP, you'll have to shoot at faster speeds ( and correspondingly higher ISOs) than you may prefer.It's inexpensive enough that it makes a great fast complementary lens to the 24-105f7.1, and takes up minimal space in a camera bag.As an advanced amateur, I'd recommend this to anyone short of people who make their living with their gear.

I’ll first say if you’re questioning the purchase of this lense - just buy it. For the price it’s the perfect and necessary addition to your kit. My only issue is The focal plane on this lense vs my original nifty fifty seems a lot more narrow when shooting large aperture. This was a known issue before purchasing but it takes a little more getting use to than I was expecting. Slightest movement wide open will yield in off focus on specific areas you want. Overall it’s a great lense and once you get use to the focus wide open it’s the perfect lense. Once you start getting into f2.8 and smaller that issue doesn’t seem to exist as bad.
