Bad focus motors

I purchased this camera and it does wonderful video. But Canon has a problem with the XA line. I first purchased an XA40 two years ago. I video the football and basketball program for the local high school. The camera took awesome video, but by the end of the first school year the camera would not stay in focus. I used the automatic setting and switched to manual. It made no difference. I sent it back to Canon for repair. Bad focus motor. They fixed it at a cost of $800. Unfortunately, I did not buy insurance. While my XA40 was at the shop for repair, I bought a new XA60, with insurance this time. I will probably have go back to my XA40 since I have gotten it back. Cannon did fix the focus problem but for what ever reason since they worked on it, it will not take power from the AC adapter. And yes, I did buy a new adapter in case the original one was at fault. It don't work either. Now I will have to send my XA60 back for repair. I have better things to do than fool with a camera that will not last 1 year. I will never purchase another Canon product. I have a Sony that has done well for the last 6 years but cost twice as much as the Canon's. Canon, fix your problems.

I rented 2 Canon XA50 plus shotgun mics, extra batteries and chargers, etc. and was extremely pleased with how easy the delivery and return process was, the excellent condition of the equipment that I rented, etc. Everything worked very smoothly, and the Lens Rentals staff was extremely helpful with the few questions that I had. Definitely will rent from Lens Rentals again when the next project comes around. The packaging of the gear was absolutely top notch and very handy.

I shoot wildlife most of the time. I was a professional videographer but retired 14 years ago. So I know good camcorders from bad. I am completely satisfied with this camcorder. I was out shooting eagles in flight this morning, the results are awesome.

Great camera for long form video
24 May 2024

I shoot almost exclusively on a a mirrorless camera these days for photo as well as video. In the past, I’ve used canon xf and xa series cameras for interviews and other work. They are great. Simple and reliable results. They also do one thing that mirrorless and DSLRs struggle with a bit and that is long form video capture. The event we rented 3 xa-60s for was an all-day conference with multiple speakers in 3 different rooms. I hired 3 additional videographers to run the cameras while I shot stills and recorded interviews on my usual rig. The cameras functioned flawlessly though the autofocus did seek a little in low light. In retrospect, I should have had my techs set the focus and lock it out as that aspect was pretty static. Other than that, great marks for the ...Ā MoreI shoot almost exclusively on a a mirrorless camera these days for photo as well as video. (Coming from a dslr/c100/c300 experience) I was hoping for a lot more. I thought the 1ā€ sensor would be more sensitive than it was and the lcd screen/monitor was very low quality. The design was nice, as I love the simplicity of an all in one design but it clearly cut corners and forces you to move up the ladder. I was hoping to save some money over renting a dslr and lens but I think the shortcomings are not worth it.I was surprised to receive this camera, and the g60, and discovered that I had to update the firmware on both to gain simple functionality like a working custom button or access to WideDR picture profiles. In the end, the camera functioned well and am pleased with the rental. Thanks LR.

Long time XA-40 user - LOVE THIS
28 August 2024

I take a ton of video for marketing purposes of construction work across the country. Im also always shooting stills. The XA40 - which is very similar but 5 years old I think is amazing. The zoom on this thing is UNREAL - so handy. The video quality is excellent, autofocus is remarkable and low level light capability work is very helpful.... people love the footage. I exclusively shoot a little wide in 4k and punch in to compose almost every shot.I really like the XLR and TRS audio inputs. I can rig for an interview or a short shotgun and run with this. It is perfect for the kind of jobsite work I do both indoors and outdoors.I have many cameras including ones that shoot in higher level formats and raw but the if you want clean, easy to get footage that you dont ...Ā MoreI take a ton of video for marketing purposes of construction work across the country. I have done two projects with the XA-60, the XA-40 still works great and I am very, very happy with the result. There are some differences but it did great on the first projects. The dual recording is so calming. I dont really ever have problems with my SD cards but it has happened and having that backup in the camera is very nice.

Perfect camera for my weird needs.

I?ll be real, I bought this for a very strange reason most people probably wouldn?t buy it for. I have been looking for a good ?paranormal? camera to take on ghost hunts and to record general outdoor adventures with. I have always wanted a good camcorder and this seemed to check all the boxes. It?s close enough to professional to meet all my needs. It has great low light capabilities, great infrared capabilities, and shoots pretty good quality video. 4k30 is all I really wanted since it?s mostly for YouTube anyway and I?m not trying to spend thousands on SD cards. There?s a good chance I may be shooting a lot in 1080p but I wanted the option.I love the ability to just grab and go with this camcorder. It?s going to be recording in low light situations a lot and it ...Ā MoreI?ll be real, I bought this for a very strange reason most people probably wouldn?t buy it for. Perfect for what I wanted
29 May 2021

Coming from a Canon DSLR background I wanted to try something that was pretty much point and shoot but a high quality. This seemed to fit the bill rather well. I was able to see the screen in very bright sunlight. The two handles work well. Unfortunately I didn't see the manual until after I had returned the camera. The videos on YouTube just don't do it justice. Again I was in a very tight schedule and should have done more research. Clarity was wonderful I bought a microphone that I didn't end up using, the sound right off the video cam is fair to middling. My biggest complaint is that I had to have the camcorder on standby, because if I turned it off it will take several seconds for it to turn back on and then record, having me miss the shot. It does eat batteries and glad I rented a second battery to go along with this. Now I was shooting for a total of 5 hours in an outdoor hot environment ( so brightness levels on all displays were on max). It's been a while since I rented equipment, and it went flawlessly.

Very unhappy
26 February 2024

My experience was very poor since I was sent the wrong camera. I was sent a Canon XA60B instead of the Canon XA60 that I ordered. I have contacted Electronics Superstore and I have not received a response. I need this camera replaced ASAP or give me my money back so I can buy it somewhere else!!
