Capcom Devil May Cry 5 PS4 Game

The Devil May Cry series, known for its blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly characters, grew to be a global success since its first release in 2001. The main protagonist of the series is Dante, a demon hunter and son of the Legendary Dark Knight and demon Sparda and human Eva. Throughout the Devil May Cry series, the eternal battle between the forces of good and evil plays out through the lens of this supernatural family drama, as the Son of Sparda Dante, seeks vengeance for his brother’s corruption and his mother’s murder. Now, 10 years since the last iteration, Devil May Cry 4, Director Hideaki Itsuno and the core team have reunited to conclude the long awaited Sons of Sparda saga. Several years have passed in Devil May Cry 5 and the threat of demonic power, long since forgotten, has returned to menace the world once again. The demonic invasion begins with the seeds of a “demon tree” taking root in Red Grave City. This hellish incursion attracts the attention of the young demon hunter, Nero, an ally of Dante who now finds himself without his demonic arm, the source of much of his power. As Nero heads to Red Grave City in his motorhome named “Devil May Cry” with his partner Nico, he ruminates on how everything started. The loss of his demonic arm, the demonic invasion, and Dante’s unknown whereabouts. Things must be settled once and for all. Capcom’s proprietary in-house RE Engine ensures that with Devil May Cry 5, the series continues to achieve new heights in fidelity, featuring ground-breaking graphics that utilise photorealistic character designs and stunning lighting and environmental effects. The game features three playable characters, each of which offer a radically different stylish combat play style as they take on the city overrun with demons. Adrenaline-fuelled boss fights play out against destructible environments in the striking streets of Red Grave City.

A battle of good and evil and utterly insane action experience. Last hope will rest in the hands of three lone demon hunters, each offering a radically different play style. United by fate and a thirst for vengeance, these demon hunters will have to face their demons in the hope to survive. This Xbox one game is so much fun. Great value for the price. It has a Mature rating.

DMC5 will actively push you stretch the limits of how long you can continually punish a lone, poor demon. The phenomenal combat paired along with the excellent pacing makes the full package something you can't pry yourself from. The minute the game ended, I wanted nothing more to jump back in. I highly recommend you begin with the standard difficulty when first starting off rather than the "Human" difficulty. Don't be fooled, however, as the hardest difficulty you can pick right off the bat is only the second easiest difficulty. This game wants you to keep replaying the game. New systems, mechanics, weapons, and combos are sprinkled throughout the main campaign, demanding that you take advantage of the new skill. You literally receive a game-changing ability right at the end of the game, essentially telling you to replay the game again. If you want to test your might, the Bloody Palace game mode is a extremely fun mode that will constantly test how good you really think you are with a 99 stage gauntlet through all the enemies and bosses in the game--using only one life. You die, you start from ground zero.Capcom is killing it. No one could've predicted such a strong redemption arc with the company, but here we are with Devil May Cry 5 (and Resident Evil 2 remake). Do yourself a favor and dive into Devil May Cry 5. If you're new to the series, don't worry, there's a video included with the game that will go over most of the main plot points from the previous games. The game absolutely can be played stand-alone. And don't be surprised if you find yourself saying to yourself, "Pull my devil trigger." The game's soundtrack is an absolute beast. You'll see.

An addicting light romp

The game play for DMC 5 is solid , but fed to you in very small bites . Each mission is formulaic with several enemy encounters before reaching a boss at the end. Visually, it is appealing, but level design could have used a lot more thought. Traversing the land is sometimes tedious. There is quite a bit of room for improvement on their platforming elements to make them more fun for the player. I reference Astral Chain for the Switch in how it found an amazing way of finding a middle ground when it came to preforming cool attacks and platforming. There is very little depth outside from a shop to buy skills and items. If you were hoping for something more robust with RPG elements and customizations, this could be a pass. It is just another bare-essential installment of DMC, but that is more than enough to win in my book.

An excellent return to form for DMC
9 May 2020

After DMC several years ago, I had my doubts we'd ever see another proper entry in the Devil May Cry series. It was a fun game to play overall, but it marked a departure in the traditional aesthetic for the series. With Devil May Cry 5 we finally get a proper sequel. It picks up some time after Devil May Cry 4; you start off playing as Nero, but soon enough you'll be playing as newcomer V and series stalwart Dante. All 3 characters have distinct gameplay styles: Nero uses his sword, revolver, and devil bringer arm. V uses long-range attacks via his animal familiars, only stepping in close range to finish off enemies. Dante is probably the most varied of the 3 however, utilizing his traditional repertoire of firearms, fighting stances, and close range weapons. Dante is probably the most varied of the 3 however, utilizing his traditional repertoire of firearms, fighting stances, and close range weapons. It's worth noting that they've upped the ante with the graphics as well. The characters' facial expressions and movements are quite impressive. From the get-go, you'll be thrust into the action and expected to rapidly adapt. Indeed, this may the main fault of DMC 5–it seems like by the time you get used to one character you're forced to play as another. With 3 characters to support, it likely won't be until subsequent play-throughs that you'll truly appreciate the variety of options here. As usual, you'll be buying upgrades for your attacks via red orbs that enemies drop...but you won't be able to afford all of them until you've finished the game a couple times. This is not an open-world action game. DMC 5 follows a linear mission structure that pushes you along, but it does allow for a minimal amount of exploration via the secret missions and short detours that lead to blue/purple orbs (you can backtrack through former missions to collect items you've missed via the main menu). With a respectable campaign that clocks in over 10 hours and the free Bloody Palace DLC, Devil May Cry 5 is a worthy entry to the series. It may have a steep learning curve for some, but it's a blast to play once you master the mechanics.

Dante makes a strong comeback
5 April 2019

Dante is back, and better than ever. The combat is smooth and you can easily switch between combat styles. Nero's combat style is balanced and the prosthetic arm feature is a nice addition. There are different arms to choose from. An arm that shoots electricity and stuns and throws enemies to the ground? Check. An arm that slows down time for the enemies? Check. An arm that shoots like a rocket and then you can jump on it? Check. Each type of arm adds variety to the combat strategy for Nero. The new character, V, might get mixed reactions from DMC fans. His combat style is a bit harder to master than Nero's and Dante's combat style. V needs to stay away from enemies and use his companions to fight for him. Triangle button makes melee attacks and square button makes long range attacks. The black panther companion attacks the enemies at close range using its tail and claws, while the bird attacks the enemies from afar firing beams and summoning thunder attacks from above. Finally the devil trigger activates a golem that automatically attacks the enemies surrounding you. Very useful when V is being overwhelmed by enemies. You can also acquire the ability to jump on the golem's back and take control of it. Once you get the hang of V you'll be having a blast breezing through the combat. Whether you like or dislike the new character, whether you are a long time DMC fan or a newcomer I highly recommendthis game.

Good, but a trifle disappointing
8 July 2019

In terms of good old butt-kicking, DMC5 has what you want if you've been a fan of the series from the get. But if you're expecting the old-fashioned puzzle-it-out, figure-it-out challenge that the older DMCs gave us, you're in a for a bit of a disappointment.**I warn that there will be spoilers here**Dante isn't our MC, and he won't be available until approximately mission 9 or 10. V is relatively boring to play with despite his dark and enigmatic persona. He can't really do much demon-slaughtering, and has to call on pet demons to do all the work for him. Not so hot; I constantly felt hindered when I played his character. Nero's a toughie, but his missing arm puts the player at an extreme and tiresome disadvantage. The devil arms keep breaking, and when he runs out, that's the end of that if you don't have spares to load up.At 20 missions, the game is pretty short, particularly because in this DMC, you don't get the puzzles and artifact hunting that the old DMCs used to give us. It's all basically mindless, button mashing. You see a cutscene, go through a demon-filled, post-apocalyptic environment hacking and slicing your way through any monster that comes your way then face a boss. If you defeat the boss, you move on to another cutscene and do it all over again. While the combat is fun, the fact that the battles just bleed into each other spoils it some because the game goes that much faster, and the story doesn't really pull you into it.Despite the cons, I enjoyed the game if for nothing else but the demon-smashing joyride and familiarity of the characters, combat style and gameplay mechanics. I LOVED that this DMC took us back to the original roots of the game instead of continuing the mess that Ninja Theory gave us with their ugly, vulgarized version of Dante. Keeping the language and sexuality to a minimum (for a game of this kind, I suppose) made the game that much more enjoyable. I DO hope, however, that should another DMC be released, it gives us more play time, and a more entertaining experience that makes us actually think a little to win instead of just mashing buttons to kill the enemy, speeding the game past. Today's games are much too expensive to be able to complete the whole thing in just a day or so, and at just 20 demon-slaying missions, it's very possible to do just that.

But when you realize you don't even unlock Dante until mission 10, and even then he's in 6 missions, 3 of which you fight the same boss. Dante does have the coolest weapon set and moves, but he is way under utilized. At least there is bloody palace to run through with him. V is worthless. Yes he can be strong (he's the one I got the furthest with in bloody palace) but I do not enjoy him one bit. You don't fight with him, you use his bird and panther to fight. Sounds cool but it's not. Nero, he has potential, but his devil breakers (power arm things) constantly break and it leaves you with a 1 armed guy with a sword and no crazy combos. If they made the devil breakers not break then he might be fun, but he can be frustrating at times. Dante is awesome and should have been the main focus of the game, in fact if they took out the other 2 and made dante playable from the beginning I'd be happier. On top of that they tease Virgil with costumes, cutscense, and multiple boss fights against him. Then the end he teams up with Dante, yet he's not playable. It is such a slap in the face. The story is pretty good and interesting, but somewhat repetitive and predictable. The graphics are great. The parts that really disappointed me are as follows: no turbo mode. The game feels really slow. Not very many unique enemies. Non of the "demons" feel like demons at all. There are these bug looking ones that look like horse flies and cockroaches, then there's a few lizard types, then there's a couple goat looking things, and there's a grim reaper looking one, plus a few other bosses and mini bosses, but overall you don't feel like you're fighting demons at all, you feel like you're fighting aliens, or just giant animals and bugs... the camera gets really janky. First of all there aren't many puzzle sections in the game, in fact there are barely any. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference, but they did focus more on the fighting so I consider it mostly good. But then you'll come across one random section where you have to jump on these platforms that drop after a second, and all of a sudden it feels like Crash Bandicoot. Why? Just leave it out. Lastly the bosses are somewhat unique until you fight Urizen/ Virgil 5 times and 3 of the other bosses twice. This game could have been so much better if they stuck with the original formula. DmC:Definitive Edition was better, more fun, and you felt more like a badass. This game is harder, but in the wrong ways. Janky camera, crappy controls, unfair enemies (on higher difficulties). Human, Devil Hunter, and Son of Sparda are barely distinguishable. Then you go to Dante Must Die and it's a huge jump in difficulty.Overall I was very happy with the last game, the definitive edition. I was super excited for this one and it's not any better. In fact I'm going back to play the old one because this one is such a disappointment. Cool style and weapons doesn't mean anything if you barely get to use them. This game has potential, most of it can be fixed in an update if Capcom wanted to, but with all the praise it's getting I just don't see that happening. People have lowered their standards and then hate on games like the reboot but the reboot was fun, this game isn't fun.

Hands down, the best game of 2019
2 January 2020

I rarely give games or movie a full 5 stars or 10/10's however this game is just too good. I've never really played the Devil May Cry franchise so this was my first game in the series and I'm glad that I decided to get into this series. The story is simple and easy to catch on to even without any context to the story, but if you really want to know about the story so far then check out "The History of DMC" that's contained within the Main Menu. But anyway, the gameplay is definitely the best part of this game. It's an action hack and slash game where you play as three characters: Dante, the son of Sparda and Legendary Devil Hunter, Nero, a young Devil Hunter who recently got a brand new robotic arm, and V, and mysterious man who controls demonic beast in hopes of ... MoreI rarely give games or movie a full 5 stars or 10/10's however this game is just too good. Each character has a different play style and their own challenges to them. The funnest part in the game in my opinion is trying to get your combos up to SSS and keeping it there for as long as possible. The game also knows when to shut up and let the gameplay talk and I really respect that. The soundtrack is also amazing especially during battle, it really hypes you up, and not to mention whenever you finish a battle the music always somehow ends perfectly. Overall, this game is just fantastic. The gameplay, the art style, the soundtrack, the characters, the acting, just everything about it is just so good. For sure, one of the best games of the decade.

One of the best DMC games
22 March 2019

I love all types of action games, and DMC always gets a lot of credit for kind of kicking off the third person action genre as we know it (attack, dodge, guard, parry, health orbs, all that fun stuff). But since the older games I feel like other series have made improvements to the gameplay and feel (especially from some of the original Devil May Cry developers that joined Platinum Games and made Bayonetta 1 and 2). I think Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising are still the genre's high water mark for me, but this game does make some big improvements over Devil May Cry 4, which is now 11(!) years old. There are three playable characters that share similar button mappings but play entirely different, and (in my opinion) the game doesn't really kick off until you unlock the third playable character about halfway through the game. I was just enjoying the game fine up until then, but around the halfway point the game really takes off (somewhat literally) in both mechanics and story.Outside of that it's using the same engine as the two latest Resident Evil games and it looks very good (playing on a regular PS4). The one thing I'd say if you're a newcomer, is watch the 'History of DMC' video from the main menu, or find something on YouTube to catch you up on DMC 1-4, as the game itself does a VERY poor job as positioning itself as an entry point, which is weird considering the 11 year gap since the last game in the "main" series (there was a very good reboot in 2013, but that story was unrelated). And past that if you're new, play on the easiest difficulty as well to ease yourself into the gameplay, it can take some getting used to if you're mainly into Bayonetta and the original God of War games.
