This is 2nd favourite work jacket. I'm an HVAC technician in Toronto and wear this as my winter jacket. I'm 5'11", 175lbs with an athletic build and broad shoulders. I ordered medium which is what I usually wear for jackets, especially winter jackets as I prefer a fit that's not too baggy. This fits more like a large as I can easily layer with my Carhartt heavy weight rain defender hoody without feeling restricted while working, yet I can still wear the jacket with only a t-shirt and it doesn't look oversized. Even if it wasn't for work I wouldn't size down. I wore it working outdoors today in -13C and it kept me very warm with a t-shirt and medium zip up cotton sweater underneath. Don't feel like I'll need to wear it with my heavy weight hoody until around -20C or ... MoreThis is 2nd favourite work jacket. I'm an HVAC technician in Toronto and wear this as my winter jacket. The length is great as well and fits like a "tall" for some other Carhartt jackets, in particular the Full-Swing line. My only minor complaint with this jacket is that the side pockets could've been deeper. They're certainly wide enough but not ideal for storing stuff like your phone if you're being active. Not a huge deal for me.

I purchased a Small in a feed store. The sleeves are way too long at 35-36 inches for a small. All my other Carharts had sleeves of 32 or 33 inches for either small or medium; but this one the sleeves hang at my thumbs. They would be in the way of my work which includes brazing in confined areas and mechanical repairs which can include engines, linkages, and motor drives; and would surely impede the wearing of work gloves. I really liked the jacket as it had all the quality and features I needed, especially for outdoor repairs. It also had a great fit in the chest and length with room for layering. But somewhere the sleeve length selected was not the usual length found commensurate with the jacket size. The jacket was returned

This is/was to replace an older Carhartt jacket which I just love but which was finally wearing out.I am somewhat disappointed with the new purchase because although it is rated as "Warmest Rating" is doesn't seem to be as warm as my older Carhartt that this new coat is to replace. And where I live it gets cold, so I was expecting a warmer coat. Suggest you not say this coat is warmest, but just warm, and that you sell a warmer coat. Also I didn't want the hood, but seems like you don't make a hoodless jacket like this anymore, so I'll put up with the hood for now. I think the hood will probably just collect dirt when I have to crawl under a cold house to work on plumbing or whatever. And for what it's worth, I'm still keeping my old tattered Carhartt coat for ... Bought this to replace my older quilted flannel lined active jacket.... and I regret it. Seriously, did they forget to put insulation in my jacket? I was freezing over this past weekend in temps my older jacket just laughed at. How on earth did this jacket get the "warmest" rating? The only good I can say about this is that its very wind resistant and just a bit over sized so I can wear layers underneath, which I will most definitely have to do if I don't want to get hypothermic. Big time buyers remorse. I wish I didn't prematurely get rid of my old active jacket.
I received this jacket as a gift to replace an older Carhardt jacket my wife thought looked tattered. I have worn the new jacket since Christmas to walk the dog and prepare for a planned trip.We are experiencing a warm winter in MN (10 to 30 degrees) light wind. I would not wear this jacket for any outdoor winter activity ware I would be outside for a long period of time like I have with my old jacket. The wind penetrates the jacket and the waistband doesn't keep the wind out and no drawstring. I also don't like the outer material of the jacket (wind penetrates the jacket. The right inside pocket is too small to hold my phone and close it. The left pocket I have to remove my gloves to answer the phone. Overall I think you messed up a great jacket. I plan to use my ... This is a nice coat. I misplaced my other (model #14806) and had to get another one fast. This new one is model #J130-M. It is as it says a lose fit. Compared it's longer and a tad bulkier. That's OK. It isn't warmer. I don't know if that's because of the lining or not. The other model has a thicker cloth quilt. This has like a slick material. That's my description. I don't do fabrics. That said the pockets and zipper are great. I don't like the way the cord is for the hood. They shouldn't have changed it. Also they went cheap with the Carhart logo by having the square cloth and not the vinyl as they used to be. You will love the cuffs. The coat arms cover the cuffs and that I really like because the cuffs go into the gloves and sleeves somewhat go over the gloves. ... MoreThis is a nice coat. The coat arms cover the cuffs and that I really like because the cuffs go into the gloves and sleeves somewhat go over the gloves. Those that wear a hard hat will love the hood for it is very bulky. To bulky for a ball cap. I have farm neighbors that like this color as well as others but it seems that most stores here in Eastern Nebraska push the ugly light brown. They will be forced to order on line as I did to get a different color. If you are military or first responder use it. That was a nice choice to order this online to get the 15% discount. Ordering online is a bummer because I had to return the first one because it was to big. As it states , its a lose fit. I always wear a XL to cover my steak/beer gut and with this I needed a L. Customer service was very prompt and easy to work with in returning
First Carhartt I've bought due to having a gift card. I usually buy the cheaper versions from another company but the zippers always wear out. So I was excited to finally be able to get a Carhartt. Boy am I disappointed, this coat is cold! Extremely disappointed. I'm also disappointed in the customer service at the Papillon NE store. The 3x I tried at the store was a bit snug wanted to see if they had a 4x in the back to try but all 5 workers were working the 2 cash registers the day I was in there. I ordered a 4x online and it's way to big which I wonder if that isn't the reason it's so cold.
I have 2 of your original J130-M, but the new UPDATE with the different interior lining is a big disappointment. I didn't notice the word update in the description when I ordered from your website. It needs to be in all upper case letters so customers will know of this change. The pictures show the original material, not the slick interior lining. I really like Carhartt clothing. I am a rancher and was beginning to wear my second J130 out and was ordering another one for next fall and winter. The cloth lining is very comfortable and warmer feeling than the updated slick lining you replaced it with. Please consider going back to the other lining. Thank you for allowing me to share my opinion and feedback. BTW the original J130 was definitely a 5 STAR!
I purchased this jacket, fortuitously, a couple of weeks before we got the worst cold snap we have had in the dozen years I have lived at my current house. Even at -10F temps, I was toasty warm as I took care of the livestock and managed my property. And, the jacket is roomy enough to make movement easy. The outer material is sturdy; the 3M thinsulate is amazing; and the length of the jacket does not hinder me at all; and, the zipper is a heavy duty YKK. Definitely a must buy.
The brand still lives up to its name! This jacket fits so good allowing for full arm movement without the sleeves coming up. The cuffs keep the wind out. The Thinsulate is warm without bulk and the outer fabric is rugged and windproof. It has good length to it as well. I do wish the pockets were lined better, but with gloves on they are fine. I love my coat. It makes feeding horses in the cold winter much more enjoyable.
