This is an Old School Carhart jacket purposely cut for Trades or Equipment Operators. The waist is cut at the belt line so you can easily access your tool bags and not hang up as you move about a construction site. The sleeves are cut long for reaching up, leaning forward while sitting and operating a truck, forklift or using crane controls. Think of this jacket as the Detroit version of a western cut jean jacket. Perfect for cool mornings operating a tractor or backhoe. Pockets angled to keep keys or items from falling out. Zippered upper pocket to keep smokes, lighter or wallet from walking off. It's a great fall or spring coat cut w/enough room for wearing a hooded sweatshirt under it. The original version had waist button tabs for expanding/tightening the waist. ... MoreThis is an Old School Carhart jacket purposely cut for Trades or Equipment Operators. It's normally cut for a lean or tapered body w/broad shoulders - chubby, chunky, or obese will not like the look or fit of this coat. The washed duck w/leather Carhart tab was my fav. This coat was often a union fav and seen w/worker's company logo and worker's name on it,

I just purchased this jacket from a local retail outlet. My store was running a 20% off sale. This is the first Detroit jacket I have owned. Being new, it is quite stiff. The jacket fits good and is not too bulky. I like the blanket lining. The front hand warmer pockets are easy to access and have a good depth to keep hands warm. The pockets are blanket lined also. The brass zipper works smooth. It has inside chest pockets, one with a zipper and one with a velcro closure. The back has extended length for good kidney coverage. There is an outside left chest pocket with zip closure. It has a full length bi-swing back that allows great freedom of movement. Not much else to say. I think I will enjoy this jacket. I bought this as a gift for my husband's birthday. It was from my children and myself. He loved it.When he recieved it, and tried it on, he could not get his arm through the sleeve, due to a sewing defect. I returned it, for an exchange, but none were available at this store. I asked the store clerk if it was available at another store. She found it on line at the Geneva store. She gave me the option to pick it up at the Geneva store myself, or to have it transferred to this store. The weather was not nice that day, so as much as I wanted the jacket the same day, I chose to have it transferred here. My husband's birthday was Thursday. I brought it back on Friday. Although I was disappointed at first with the defective jacket, the whole return process ran smoothly. And thankfully the new jacket fit him quite well, and he was able to keep the size I chose.

I've had this jacket for all most a year now and love it for the most part but there are a couple things that I don't like, 1 being the way all of the pockets are cut in to the shell of the jacket when they should be attached to the outside or inside so that the main shell of the jacket remains a solid protective layer without holes cut in to it that allows cold and wind to penetrate to our body's core. 2 the tiny zippers are difficult if not impossible to navigate without gloves let alone with, 3 the storm flap is to small and should have two, one one the outside and one inside along with buttons to allow a chose of ways to close the front when working and a two way zipper would be nice. 4 no way to adjust the waist of the jacket, it needs two buttons and button ... MoreI've had this jacket for all most a year now and love it for the most part but there are a couple things that I don't like, 1 being the way all of the pockets are cut in to the shell of the jacket when they should be attached to the outside or inside so that the main shell of the jacket remains a solid protective layer without holes cut in to it that allows cold and wind to penetrate to our body's core. 2 the tiny zippers are difficult if not impossible to navigate without gloves let alone with, 3 the storm flap is to small and should have two, one one the outside and one inside along with buttons to allow a chose of ways to close the front when working and a two way zipper would be nice. 4 no way to adjust the waist of the jacket, it needs two buttons and button holes on each side at the bottom hem as well at the wrist cuff, and Please No Velcro, 5 get rid of the Cheesy collar, just make it as tough and rugged as the rest of the jacket. My opinion for what it's worth. hey how about getting rid of hoods on other styles of men's coats and jackets, then I might buy more. Questions below are at less than a year so give me a few more months an I will update the progress.60 year old beat up electrician, yea I can do that. Thanks J.D. Miller
Overall I would say that this is a very solid jacket. If I had never owned a Carhartt Detroit JacketBefore, I would be 100% pleased. But, everything about this jacket is of a lesser quality then the one they used to make. First off, the fit is now “relaxed” so you don’t get that nice tight formfitting jacket that they used to produce, plain and simple it’s now cut for fat people. 2nd – The jacket shell material is not the high-grade fabric it used to be made out of. It used to be a really heavy-duty stiff cotton material now it is lighter weight and feels like it may have some sort of synthetic content. 3rd -The zipper is lighter weight and not nearly as beefy as my last Detroit. Speaking of zippers the breast pocket zipper not has a rubber pull instead of a metal ... MoreOverall I would say that this is a very solid jacket. Speaking of zippers the breast pocket zipper not has a rubber pull instead of a metal one. 4th - The flannel blanket material in the liner is also lighter weight and cheaper feeling. It doesn’t feel like its wool any more. More synthetic fiber? 5th - They have also deleted the waste snaps that allowed you to cinch up the sides of the bottom of the jacket. Lastly my last Carhartt was made it the USA, this new one is made in Mexico. All in all still a solid jacket, but honestly it pales in comparison to the one I bought a decade ago. Over time I may find that this one holds up as good as the last but it just feels cheeper to me.
Not sure what Carhartt is thinking changing something so iconic and calling it a Detroit. Customers aren't oblivious, we can tell the difference. Please bring back the design, fit and quality of the classic original J01 / J001 and J97.This new "detroit" has lighter, flimsier fabric. It lacks the tapered body and wide shoulders of the original detroit. It has pointless pleats on the elbows of the jacket which are a wear point. The waist snaps have been removed and a strange tail flap added in the back. The lining is way, way cheaper than the original and starts sagging early on. The corduroy collar is no longer the darker brown but a lighter reddish brown. The overall quality is nothing compared to the classic. The classic could easily last a decade of hard work ... MoreNot sure what Carhartt is thinking changing something so iconic and calling it a Detroit. I can’t understate how disappointed I am with the redesign of the Detroit jacket. I’ve owned three over the past 25 years, and my teenage son has been wearing second hand youth versions since he was four years old (currently on his fourth). I intended on purchasing myself a new Detroit jacket this year, but after inspecting the new design, I hung it back on the rack and left the store. The new fleece lining is nothing like the original blanket lining that felt like a cotton-wool blend. I don’t care for fleece, and just loved the rugged feeling of the original. I have an athletic build, with larger chest and shoulders and slimmer waist. The previous cut, with it’s adjustable waist straps, allowed me to cinch the wast to accommodate my tapered body style. And above all else, I don’t understand the dropped back waistline. It’s been referred to as a butt flap, and I agree with that assessment. The straight cut was the defining quality of the Detroit jacket in my opinion. This flap was the deciding factor when I put the jacket back on the rack. I hated how it looked and felt when I tried it on. I hope there is a reconsideration in the design for next year. My wife, son, and I own extreme parkas, chore coats, regular and Sherpa lined vests, overalls, flannels, hoodies, t-shirts, etc. This is a Carhartt family in a harsh winter area of mid-Michigan. And my Detroit jackets have always been my Crown Jewels - my favorite pieces that I take comfort in dawning each year when the weather turns cold, and what I wear daily for errands and tasks throughout the winter. So I’m saddened to see a staple of my wardrobe basically discontinued. Discontinued because the new version is not worthy of the Detroit title in my opinion.
I'm not sure who is running Carhartt these days. It used to be "THE" place for working men to buy clothes. I remember on a job in San Antonio back in 1995, EVERYONE on the project ended up wearing a Carhartt trucker jacket (which the new geniuses in charge no longer make at all - I wonder why not when they go for $250+ on ebay these days and everyone else started making and selling trucker jackets right when Carhartt decided to stop). But I digress - this is supposed to be a review of the crap that Carhartt has the audacity to call a Detroit jacket. First - the fit is wrong. Maybe it will fit you, maybe it won't (I personally don't care for the new fit) but it's definitely not going to fit like your old one. Second, they're cheaply made. Not only do they feel flimsy, they wear out quickly. I noticed they have a nylon Detroit - they say it has seven times the abrasion resistance of the duck ones. Well, they're comparing it to this one. Not the good ones they used to make. Third - WTF is up with this butt apron? Apparently Carhartt failed to realize that the reason their Detroit and trucker jaclets were so damned popular is they were SHORT. If it's so cold that I need a butt apron then I'm probably going to need more than a blanket lined jacket, am I right? The butt apron doesn't add anything useful to the jacket, but takes away one of the great features, which was that they didn't used to drag on tool belts or radios.
I have warn 3 of the Detroit Jackets for close to 25 years, gone through two of them with almost daily use Fall and Winter. I recently purchased my 4 Detroit jacket and am totally disappointed. The zipper pull tabs once sturdy brass are now steel with rubber like tabs. Really cheap feel to the jacket and sadly going to be returned to the Big R Store with the same Write up. I have literally warn the jackets until the collars freed and the pockets were warn through. Loved the old jackets, Not the new one. From what I can see you just took the outer from the Carhartt Mens Full Swing Washed Duck Fleece Lined JacketSKU:P2226005MPN:103370-001 Very disappointed
Best jacket that I have ever owned. My father has the same one and was the main reason why I wanted to get my own. He has had his for 10+ years now and mine is going 3 years. Fits perfectly, it is a little stiff when you first get it but once you wear it for a while it breaks in and fits like a glove. The material is great, the build quality is second to none. Durable buttons, tons of pockets. The liner pockets are awesome, one is a zipper and the other is velcro and they are great. You can put things in them and you don't even notice that they are there. Along with that it has great pockets on the outside that are deep for tons of things. Overall amazing jacket, 10000/10 would highly recommend. Carhartt please never change anything about this jacket.
