I have purchased and used a hundred+ skeins of this yarn over the past several years in support of a charity organization that delivers crocheted wigs to children experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment or other conditions. Caron Simply Soft (CSS) yarn is one of the major yarn brands approved for these wigs because it feels soft on tender little heads. I like working with the CSS yarn and never experience a problem. Mary Maxim has a wide selection of CSS yarn colors.

This was not my favorite yarn only because it's delicate and splits easily, however, the shine is really satisfying and it seems a lot of folks are having success with it, so I didn't want to give it a low star rating to deter anyone as the product itself is good quality. I crocheted a small square and did a wash and dry test and it washed and dried excellently. I bought several colors 2 years ago when it was on sale, knowing nothing about the brand. It sat in my storage bin for a long time. I decided on a whim to use the off white and pagoda colors and made a hexagon cardigan. It turned out beautifully. I normally would use a different textured yarn for the granny stitch, but I'm glad I experimented. I most likely won't be purchasing the simply-soft again only ... MoreThis was not my favorite yarn only because it's delicate and splits easily, however, the shine is really satisfying and it seems a lot of folks are having success with it, so I didn't want to give it a low star rating to deter anyone as the product itself is good quality. I bought about 10 different colors of this yarn to start a temperature blanket. They are all different thicknesses, and many of them change weights dramatically throughout the ball. It's also very fuzzy once it's worked up. I had already waited weeks for shipping and committed to the project by the time I noticed, or else I would have returned them. Some of the rows are almost disappearing because the yarn is so thin compared to the rest, and the change in weight is apparent through most of the rows. It looks so messy, but like I said I am committed so I'll just keep going and hope it turns out okay. My favorite yarn
4 August 2024

Caron Simply Soft yarn is always my choice when knitting my heirloom baby blankets for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Recently I found out great-grand #9 is on the way. I sent the Mary Maxim link to my granddaughter for her to choose the color and I placed the order. The yarn is so resilient (the oldest blanket is twenty-three and has withstood numerous washings well). The color holds true and the texture is perfect and enjoyable to work with. I have recommended this yarn for years so it is easy to do that here.

Rose Garden NOT the colorway pictured here
27 March 2024

I don't know what happened with Rose Garden Paints yarn but the colorway I received are NOT what is pictured here. Instead it is colored like the "Spring Ombre" of the Mary Maxim brand (the pinks are more purple like the picture of Spring Ombre), yet it has the the label of Caron Rose Garden...still nice but very disappointing since I can't use it for the project I'd originally intended because I wanted more pinks not purples. Wonder why this is? Is this picture just wrong? Or did they switch out the yarn?

The best and the worst!
6 December 2023

I like the look and feel of Caron Simply Soft. I crocheted a granny square cardigan for my granddaughter. It turned out very nice, but what I liked about the yarn has become a real problem. The sheen and softness have caused the center portion of many squares to come undone. (It is slippery and doesn’t hold a knot). I have reinforced each center with sewing thread, but wonder what will happen when the sweater is worn awhile. The yarn would work well for a pattern without so many thread changes.

[Rewarded Review] Fantastic colors and very soft
8 June 2024

I recently purchased 10 skeins of Caron Simply Soft yarn to make a crocheted skirt. Because crochet projects use more yarn than knitted ones I decided to search for the best quality acrylic value yarn I could find. I found it!! Fortunately my local JoAnn store carried all the colors I chose. I picked up the yarn yesterday, to my relief I discovered the colors were just as depicted - even better really. Caron Simply Soft *is* soft. I had a leftover bit of CSS to try out the stitch patterns, and found the yarn to be smooth and easy to work. It does feel like acrylic, but I can tolerate that for the price.

[Rewarded Review] Great yarn, terrible packing and shipping
29 February 2024

I absolutely love this yarn, do I ordered 12 skeins to make an adult afghan from it. Had it shipped to my home, since my local store did not have that many in stock and they are closing my local store soon! Well, yarn took forever to get here! FedEx sent it to Kansas then to Missouri then back to Kansas then finally got to Georgia then handed off to USPS! Now at what point my package got punctured and cut open, I do not know! By some miracle, the yarn actually does not show any visible damage!! So if I can’t buy at local store and can’t trust the shipping to get the yarn to me undamaged, I may have to find another dealer!! So I recommend the yarn but don’t order it from Joann for home delivery!

[Rewarded Review] My favorite yarn expecially for crocheted baby blankets
8 April 2024

I don't understand the bad reviews. I've only used this in white (hats and baby blankets) but I love it. Just finished a baby blanket using three skeins and a bit of a fourth. No knots/splices in any of them, and Caron makes it so easy to pull from the center with a little of that end sticking out. I used a larger hook than recommended (wanted it lofty) and had no trouble with splitting. I even undid some of my crocheting and the yarn was still perfect. I love the slight sheen and softness. I washed the finished blanket in a lingerie bag on gentle and dried on low, and it came out looking new and feeling soft. I plan to start another blanket when I can find more of this yarn. Looks like I'll have to order it as it's out of stock in my local store.

[Rewarded Review] Pain to Crochet with
16 February 2024

I’ve bought this yarn on four separate occasions, all for different projects. The texture of the yarn is great, very soft and smooth. But crocheting with it is a nightmare. It splits easily, even with the clover amour hooks, I found it going between strands and pulling apart. I am guessing that is just the quality I’m going to get with retail store yarn, but I will say that the Caron cakes and ombré does not split like this. However, this does knit up great on a circular knitting machine, making a nice thick fabric for a scarf. It may be a better choice for knitting needles/machines.
