I will be the first to say that I am new to mezcal drinking, but this cannot possibly receive one star. Straight drinks have a wonderful balance of smoke and are very smooth. There isn't much depth, but the tail does have some heat. Is the bottle worth a ninety dollars? No. Am I sorry I gave it a shot? Again, no. The bottle is very gorgeous and looks fantastic on the bar.

This is my number one favorite choice of liquor. Mezcal is The Godfather of flavor. I’m so happy to find my true drink of choice. It’s powerful and Smokey. If you usually reach for a regular tried and true tequila but want to try something different , be prepared for a nice smoky, smooth liquor that surprises your taste buds. If you like charcoal grilled food with that extra kick of wood chips , you’ll love this !!!!! My preference is sipping straight or mixed with blood orange sour by finest call. I was suggest that if you have some regular tequila at home take a shot of your regular stuff and then take a shot or sip sip of this CasaMigos Mezcal

This MEZCAL is fantastic! (With example, don't mistake mezcal for tequila.) Do some study first if you have any questions about mezcal or if you believe it to be tequila before continuing. Be wary of remarks made by people who mistakenly believed this to be tequila and were let down by its smoky flavor. It has a powerful smokey flavor that delivers for those who appreciate the pleasures of mezcal, therefore give these kinds of reviews as much credit as "this is the worst vodka ever!" My wife's family in Mexico typically gives me recommendations for mezcal. Due to my enjoyment of Casamigos tequilas, I decided to venture out on my own with this mezcal, and it did not disappoint. Any unfavorable reviews, in my opinion, were written by people who similarly enjoyed ... MoreThis MEZCAL is fantastic! (With example, don't mistake mezcal for tequila.) Although I prefer it neat, it makes an excellent substitute for tequila in a Paloma for those looking for something a little more energizing that softens the strong flavor. I have some other favorites at greater prices, but I don't like to pick apart other people's finances. For those wishing to broaden their mezcal palette, this is a reliable and secure option.

What a disappointing product. I drink their tequila on the rocks but this mezcal isn’t drinkable. I lived in Oaxaca for a time and had the pleasure of learning the nuances of mezcal and trust me, this isn’t the taste you are looking for. This product tastes like water with a cigarette put out in it and topped off with rubbing alcohol. I think this company can do better.
I will confess that I am new to mezcal drinking, but there is no way this deserves one star. Straight drinks are quite smooth and have a decent amount of smoke. Despite having little depth, the tail does contain some heat. Is the bottle really worth $100.00? No. Do I regret having tried it? And no. The bottle is gorgeous and looks excellent on the bar.
Let’s start by creating a baseline for this review: Mezcal is not tequila!!!!!!You will find the majority of negative reviews on any given Mezcal are from people who have never tried Mezcal, and are expecting that it tastes like tequila. I would say the same of gin, for people who have never tried a good gin and are used to vodka. But that’s another story… This is not the same spirit as tequila. A tequila is in the Mezcal family, but a Mezcal is not necessarily a tequila. They are both distilled from agave, while tequila must be specifically distilled from a blue agave, Mezcal can be from different varieties. A tequila is traditionally steamed and processed in brick oven‘s and distilled in copper pots, or metal chambers. The best analogy I can think of is the difference between ketchup and barbecue sauce. both are made from tomatoes, but are processed differently and barbecue has a distinctive smoky flavor. Barbecue is amazing!. But if you approach barbecue expecting the taste of ketchup you will be very disappointed.Mezcal is an amazing, unique and very distinctive spirit, with a smoky flavor that is utterly delicious and if balanced in the right cocktail, can be a unique positive experience unlike no other.Casamigos makes my favorite Reposado Tequila (seriously, second to none!!!!!!), and I also find their mezcal lovely; just the right balance of smoke.I am going to get super personal for a moment as a home craft mixologist, and share with you an original creative recipe that utilizes Mezcal to the best effect: 1 1/2 ounces Mezcal1 ounce pomegranate liqueur3/4 ounces Lime juice1/2 ounce agave syrup1/4 ounce CampariJalapeño medallions (for shaking and for garnish)Please enjoy, and open your mind to the distinctive spirit that is Mezcal.
First off, this is NOT a tequila. Those who went in and bought this expecting a tequila should probably educate themselves first before buying any liquor in the future. That being said, it's a pretty mediocre mezcal at best, imo. Not that I'm a master mezcalero though. I really didn't get too many good notes out of this other than a smokey flavor. If you were to visit Oaxaca, Mexico where they make legitimate mezcales and get an actual tasting and education then you would see where I'm coming from. Most of the brands sold in the US won't hold a flame to what's sold in Mexico. I have a $35 bottle sitting on my shelf from El Cortijo and it'll mop the floor with this stuff. Other than the cool bottle you aren't getting much here.
I found Casamigos a bit startling at first, the smoke is evident from the first taste. Most of the bad reviews stem from THAT overtone and that's sad. This should start with a small tumbler, and small sips swished between the gums. If you're making cocktails, don't go the traditional tequila route. Take it with ANYTHING that goes well with a cigar (and dipping cigar into the Mezcal).Fresh squeezed orange juice flavored with simple syrup and unsweetened pomegranate extract don't taste like a tequila sunrise here, but it's a refined flavor that highlights aspects of the manufacturing process!Casamigos is the "Lapsang Souchong" of the Mezcal world, treating it so will develop your pallet to appreciate a rare, smooth, traditional flavor!Casamigos hit this one ... MoreI found Casamigos a bit startling at first, the smoke is evident from the first taste. This is an excellent MEZCAL!! (i.e. do not confuse mezcal with tequila). If you do not know what mezcal is or you think it is tequila, do some research and then proceed. I prefer it neat, but it is also great substitution for tequila in a Paloma for those who prefer something more refreshing that slightly cuts the robust flavor. I have some other favorites at better price points, but I am not one to split hairs on other’s pocketbooks. This is a safe and solid choice for those looking expand their mezcal palate.
Just as all bourbons are whiskeys, but not all whiskeys are bourbons, all tequilas are mezcals, but not all mezcals are tequilas. This Casamigos Mezcal Joven (Joven meaning "young" or "young man") is a bit too smoky for me. While I enjoy a smoky High West Bourbon, I don't care for smoke with my Mexican spirits, whether it be Tequila, Mezcal, or a Pulque (that goes for a lime in my Cerveza also). The self-proclaimed 'experts' of today won't like it, but I ended up giving the bottle to a neighbor so it wouldn't go to waste.
