Casio G-Shock Watch GW-5000-1JF

I have owned this watch for a couple of years from Seiya in Japan and it's been worn a fair amount over that time. As to be expected, its got some signs of wear to it. Mainly the bezel and strap just have a slight shine to them in few areas, which I've tried to photograph. Somehow also there are a couple of small scratches to the dlc coating on the caseback. I have included a replacement strap and bezel for this model, so you can make the watch look almost as good as new if you wish.

A must for collectors

As a new collector and long time lover of the classic Casio g-shock 5600 style I came across the 5000-1JF on a fan website and it said I had to have it. Apparently any true collector has to have this model. I dont know about that but its awesome. It has a weightier chassis from the standard model which feels quality. The cover is screw down and a nice dark grey. The solar charging is here with six band time setting. Should never lose a second. Its pricey than the similar 5610 you can buy in the U.K. Function wise very similar. I have that too. But the 1JF is worth the extra cash to import it from Japan. Looks amazing and although only a fan would notice I love the feeling of wearing it.

This G-Shock is a JDM model and can trace its DNA back to the original square G-Shock model released in 1983 - over 100 million watches ago! This model uses the same solar time module as the GW-M5610 and performs identically from that perspective. The difference is in being slight shorter and lighter due to the titanium case back. It also has an excellent strap where carbon fiber is bonded to a soft resin liner that sits against the skin. It's light and super strong and will last as long as the rest of the watch. At just 47 gms (1.6oz) it is the lightest G Shock ever and it just disappears on the wrist. Not something that can be said for most G Shock models! While I wouldn't call it stylish, its has a tidy, utilitarian look and a 1980s vintage digital vibe. Rock it!

Beautiful watch, excellent build, well worth the premium price.

At first glance, this looks like just another $50.00 DW5600E-1V. Same shape, same basic watch module, with most of the same functions(you would have to step up to the GWM5610-1 for the solar and atomic functions , in the case. But it's the case that makes all the difference. It's a screw back model, with an all stainless steel case and screw on case back(with the beautiful DLC coating). And the band is of a more supple material than the one on the DW5600E-1V. Overall the the whole watch has a much better quality feel than the standard and it's a bit more heavy, but feels better on the wrist. It's made in Japan instead of China(if that makes a difference to you), and of course costs much, much more. About 6 times more. Which brings me to the good value yes/no portion ... MoreAt first glance, this looks like just another $50.00 DW5600E-1V. But the base model is, quite frankly, just as good from a watch/tool standpoint. Both will do the same job, tell time, be used as an alarm, etc., etc. And while you can abuse them both and they will take a serious beating and just keep on working, you just may want to save that for the base model and wear the GW5000 in a less utilitarian way. As I have a base model, that'swhat I do. But that's up to you. I'm very happy with mine!

Casio G-Shock GW-5000-1JF. Best ever!
20 October 2021

I have wanted this model for ages and finally bought one. I am very happy with it and I find it very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, and this is not a criticism; while I was waiting for it to arrive, I found out that there was an upgrade. Despite this, I'm really satisfied with my new G-Shock. I think that this is about as good as it gets.

Great G-Shock!
15 February 2021

I grew up with G Shocks as my first watch for a long time but I parted ways for more of traditional automatic leather band watch and have been wanting to get back into it. Granted the price is a bit high for a G shock, but I know these last a lifetime and take hard beating so In a couple years I know Ill have my moneys worth. I have a pretty small wrist I think about 6.25 maybe a bit bigger but theres not a lot of band showing and isnt as big as I thought it be so thats a plus! The only complaint I guess I have is the auto light feature you kind of have to turn your wrist in a funny way to get it to light up but its not a big deal and I honestly could care less Im use to hitting the button anyway. All in all its a awesome watch to do anything in and is stylish for ... MoreI grew up with G Shocks as my first watch for a long time but I parted ways for more of traditional automatic leather band watch and have been wanting to get back into it. King of the G-Shock Squares
23 October 2019

This should be the only G-Shock Square you should ever need to own. Obviously watch collectors would disagree as there are other stylish G-Shock Squares like the GW-S5600 even down to the average joe GW-M5610. However, this is the king and it is designed to be worn, all the time! Casio have given it a more comfortable, softer strap (it is not genuine rubber as some would have you believe but merely a softer synthetic than the normal ones) which may or may not affect its durability; I guess we'll have to see. It's also important to note that the module itself is housed in a steel case with a DLC steel screw- down case-back basically making it bomb proof. It's also important to note that the module itself is housed in a steel case with a DLC steel screw- down case-back basically making it bomb proof. The case is then embedded in the normal resin/plastic watch body. The normal ones use a plastic casing into which a a screw plate is attached using four screws. This is also then embedded into the normal watch body as above. This makes the watch heavier and slightly thicker than the others however it's more of a nod to how G-Shocks used to be made. Personally I would have no problem with a entirely plastic case (even the case back) if it meant making it lighter and thinner. However, this still feels great on the wrist and worth its weight for sure! I also want to point out that the buttons are NOT nearly as stiff and difficultto push as other reviews have made out. This may be a revision Casio have made to the button springs in the later models of these GW-5000s or maybe I was just expecting them to be a lot stiffer than they were. Lastly, the neutral colour (or lack thereof) of this model is absolutely stunning. I can't quite explain it but the understated, symmetrical look is just pure class. There is nothing trying to jump out at you (some can't stand that red line of the GW-M5610 for example even if it is a nod to the original) but rather it wants to be stealthy, even if it is a tad thicker and heavier. In fact, the only colour you may see is a shimmer of purple when the solar cells catch the light at an angle. I think it's beautiful. Whether or not you're willing to pay a premium for all this is up to you but hey, that's the price it goes for and that's that. There are much cheaper Casio models out there and I even made the mistake of buying one of those trying to convince myself I didn't want or rather, need, this one. Well, let's just say the other one is in a desk somewhere...poor thing.

Modern Blast from the Past.
24 June 2020

This is a modern take on the classic 5000 model from the 1980's. My father used to have one when I was a kid and it lasted for years. The modern 5000 looks the same with the same sturdy build quality and black straps. The materials have been improved - Silicon straps instead of rubber. The feels smoother and more flexible and probably will last longer. The watch itself now have some features that didn't exist in the original model, like solar power charging and radio synchronization for local time (not everywhere). This is a great daily watch that will go with me everywhere without worrying about it. After all, it's a G-Shock! I bought the classic black colored one, but I noticed there is also a Stainless Steel one in various colors (Natural steel, Blue, Red, etc.). ... MoreThis is a modern take on the classic 5000 model from the 1980's. Stylish and Functional

One of (if not) the lightest G-SHOCKs @ 45g which makes it extremely comfortable. Despite that, it is still one of the toughest models as the carbon fiber inserts make the band even much more difficult to deteriorate over long periods of time, on top of giving it a unique, cool and stylish carbon fiber look. Solar rechargeable battery so no need to worry about battery life even if you stay home as it charges on exposure of house lights/bulbs. Positive display which is easier on the eye and more legible than negative displays, especially when looking at from an angle. Water resistance, stop watch, timer, alarms with a snooze alarm, hourly chime which can be turned on and off. Perfect daily driver for people who are not needing to monitor their step count and/or heart ... MoreOne of (if not) the lightest G-SHOCKs @ 45g which makes it extremely comfortable. The perfect machine for telling you the time
10 May 2015

In my not-so-humble opinion, this is quite possibly the best digital watch money can buy. It's a G-Shock, so it's as tough as nails, yet it's dressy enough that you could wear it with a suit without feeling embarrassed. It is now my EDW ('Every Day Wear', or 'Every Day Watch' if you prefer). When I received it, it had not synchronised itself with a time signal for six weeks, yet it was only one second fast. Even for a quartz watch, this is an awesome level of accuracy. Once I synchronised it with the British time signal, of course, it was spot-on to the exact second, and has remained so ever since. Both the high-quality strap that it came with and the composite bracelet which I later fitted to it are extremely comfortable, so much so that I often forget I'm wearing ... MoreIn my not-so-humble opinion, this is quite possibly the best digital watch money can buy. I am extremely happy that I bought this watch, and I would recommend it to anyone. If you regard a wristwatch as a machine for telling you the time rather than an over-priced piece of male jewelry, then this is quite possibly the best wristwatch ever made, a triumph of Japanese design and technology.

feels lovely on my hand. display light isn't as bright as my previous gshock which i sometimes used as a flashlight. when handling the watch off my wrist i can tell it's a hq device. the buttons are hard to press, it's probably the worst thing about this watch. it looks expensive, IMO. battery level stays on M since the 2nd day. radio signal is too low in northern eu so i adjust manually. seconds don't drift nearly as much as my previous gd350 gshock. there's no useless stuff on the lcd like my previous gshock. tilt light works ok, it's not too uncomfortable while driving.
