Really love the game. At first it may seem very complicated but once you read through everything it’s not bad at all. Love the additions to the original game and the reference guide for the rules is extremely helpful. Only two downsides, (1) the game is limited to four people with no expansion and (2) the game’s box came a little weathered. There was a little tearing on the side by a corner. However, overall worth it.

We own a couple of Catan variations and expansions and this one is really awesome. The additional game rules place a real spin on things and what is great, is that you can flip the game board over and play the normal Catan style game. An excellent choice or addition for Catan fans.

Target's service was great as usual. The game arrived before the date it was supposed to arrive. As to the game even on sale it is quite expensive and more complicated than it needs to be. The game has numerous flaws. Also the game was not as well designed as the original Catan. It has a major typo in that on the user cards refer to a "guard" as a "keep" even though the "keep" is also defined as a castle structure. In addition, the colors were ill conceived. The blue and black pieces are difficult to tell apart. Also the resource cards were poorly designed. I would recommend sticking with the original version of the game.

This is Catan, with some Game of Thrones elements sprinkled on. Make no mistake, you don't like Catan, this game probably won't change your mind and at this price point, it's a gamble to assume it would. The additions are Game of Thrones themed obviously, Wildlings, The Wall, etc. It's essentially a bolted on mechanic to the base game of Catan. And it's good, enjoyable, and adds elements that will bring a new level of immersion and excitement to your plays of Catan. The only marks I give are to Price and Value only because, seriously, it's Catan plus some stuff, seems just a little high to me. I do enjoy it though.. soooo, there's that.NOTE: as far as manufacturing issues, these things vary and one persons experience does not a bad game make. I have had no issue ... First off, I was very surprised to receive this the next day when the initial ETA was 3-4 days - Thanks Target! This game is more of a reboot, because it allows you to play the original game as well. Is it worth the price? I think so. My original Settlers of Catan is release 4 and the game board pieces are rather slim and I've had to deal with them warping, but I've addressed that by keeping them sandwiched between to pieces of plexiglass. So the construction of the board is much better and the artwork is really well done, especially the GoT themed border. I also like the plastic molded pieces over the wooden ones. I've played the game once so far with my sister and her husband, whom I game with quite frequently and we enjoyed it. We hadn't played Catan in a while ... I've played the game once so far with my sister and her husband, whom I game with quite frequently and we enjoyed it. We hadn't played Catan in a while and it was quite fun dealing with the Wildlings. What I like is cooperative aspect of defending the wall, and the more you build the more they advance. To me, having misprints is kind of nostalgic and makes it one of a kind. I was thinking of waiting for a second release, but what if one doesn't come, or they come out with a different GoT theme instead? Board games are bit like books or DVDs, they have a limited run and won't always be readily available. If you don't already own the original Catan, but like board games and are a GoT fan, this game is absolutely worth it.
I was excited about the game. It turned out to be fun, but I am very disappointed with the handling of my order. When I received the package, it was dirty, but I didn’t mind that. What I did mind, however, was that the game box itself was damaged. There was a dented side and a tear along the edging of that side. I would have returned it but I had torn the packaging it came in.
Played three rounds this past weekend. Disappointing update -- especially for the price. The "blue" and "black"player pieces are too close in color to discern the owner. Not sure what the designer was thinking; the pieces are actually ugly and boorish. They look as if the injection mold rejects were packaged instead of the actual, intended player pieces. The new "Giant" invader is too strong; all of the players purposely avoided placing settlements away from the side of the Giants in subsequent games. Why do all of the invader pieces have to be a dull gray? The resource cards have a faded finish but seem more durable than the previous cards. Will not know how durable since none of the players want to replay the game. Back to the original game.
This is a fun version of Catan. It adds an extra game mechanic of defending the wall and avoiding wildlings. It's a great guy and with the added expansion you can play with up to 6 players.
Catan is a perfect family game for those who like a challenge. It is difficult so only for teenagers and up. Changing the board every game keeps the game fresh. We play almost nightly. Great entertainment.
The board is reversible and you can play regular Catan as well as Game of Thrones version. multi-generations enjoyed this game. If you are old enough to understand Monopoly, you are old enough to understand the directions of this game. There are a few errors in the directions related to # of pieces, but this didn't detract from the game. The pieces are molded plastic characters, not the plain blockish pieces in regular Catan. My only regret is we gave this as a gift to a recipient who lives in another state and we don't have access to play it again.
