I'm very surprised about some of the mediocre reviews on this product. I purchased and love it. We first bought a pot of pre-grown cat grass from a garden shop which the cats love but it makes a big mess. The catit planter and grass refill set is so much better - 100% clean, cats love it and grass grew enough for them to start nibbling on in about 4-5 days (despite the middle of winter - we keep it next to a window in a sunny spot and spray with water in the mornings).Today is day 9 and we have a healthy serving of grass.I highly recommend this product and plan to buy another one!

I really like the concept of a mess free cat grass planter but this product unfortunately has too many designs flaws for me to recommend it.The green mesh lid gets pushed off as the grass grows because there is nothing to hold it in place, so it's useless. There is no seed mix included with the planter, you have to buy it separately so it's not great value for money. However the worst part is that the growing medium included with the seed mix is very susceptible to mould, so you can either kill the grass by not watering it enough or you can grow mould in your planter if you do water it enough. So I effectively bought a $25 plastic bowl. I ended up throwing it out and now just use a terracotta pot and regular old dirt.

While a bit pricy it's a good idea providing drainage to reduce mold, artificial soil to eliminate bug hatching in potting soils and having the grass grow up through a grid so the animals can't dig in the dirt. The broad base prevents tipping and the rubber ring helps keep it in place. The problem is a total lack of instructions and/or advice. How much water should be added initially and how much and how often for best results. One would assume the entire packages of seed and soil are to be emptied into the planter. No advice on where to put the seed in relationship to the soil, on the bottom, top mixed in? In the two I purchased so much seed sprouted they raised the grid off the planter, getting it down is like putting tooth paste back in the tube. Great for Dogs too
1 April 2022

this is not just for cats! our dog likes to eat grass and we can't seem to find any of the right grass lately so I thought I would give this a go. Although she won't chew it directly from the planter we cut it off and then into smaller bits and she loves it....she has it about once a week....we use about half the bag each planting but just wish there was a smaller one for dogs.....larger soil/seed packets too would be better so we could get more plantings out of one bag....but as a product it seems great.

Inaccurate Description and Major Flaws
12 March 2021

This kit says everywhere on the description and product image that it DOES NOT INCLUDE the cat grass seed kit, and that you must buy it separately. However, they have updated the product to actually include everything now including the seeds! That's a good thing except for the fact the inaccurate description lead me to buy the 3 pack of grass seeds that I ended up not needing. Also, the green grid cover does not lock securely in any way! My 8 month old kitten immediately went to it, popped off the top with ease, and proceeded to chow down on the seeds and planting material. We had to move it to a locked room to grow, but I'm betting the green grid top will likely pop off again when the cat grass actually starts to grow and pushes up on it. I'm buying this as a second one so I can start growing a 2nd lot while my cat eats from the first.I originally bought the whole set for $29 my cat loved it and it grows super fast and long beautiful grass. Ive since purchased 2 grass packets and now my second bowl.

Not a kit - no grass or growing medium
18 July 2022

I usually like Catit products but this one is not worth the money. It is only the plastic grass planter. I will go and buy cat grass from the pet shop as don't feel like ordering Catit's separate seed and growing medium. It's problematic marketing by Catit. Unimpressed.

Turned rotten
6 May 2022

I had to throw this away yesterday. It was good for a couple weeks but I noticed it smelling foul whenever I watered it. Yesterday when I watered it it smelled so strongly of manure that I had to immediately bag it and take to the dumpster. I only watered every few days because of the smell. The grass was actually starting to die due to my aversion to watering it. My cat loved it but the smell is a deal breaker for me. Disgusting!

Useless expensive garbage. Incredible.
3 September 2022

Yep there are no seeds in there. To get started you have to separately buy something called refill. But that's not the biggest issue here. The green thing at the top is pushed off by the growing grass, and then it's impossible to put it back on without destroying the grass. It's so poorly designed. Also, this is meant to take 7-9 days to grow. It really takes more like a month. Maybe their growth medium is useless. I don't know how something simple like this could be made any more complicated. And with this price it's just a sad product.

wish I had read the reviews before I bought this
24 January 2023

If I would have read the reviews, I would have bought the seed kit. Been sitting on my desk since I purchased it as I have not had time to go out and buy the seeds and my next order to Pet Circle is 120 days away. They should include everything in the one box - feeling slightly annoyed
