I would also be remiss if i did not mention the built in lithium battery which does not disappoint with the advertised 10 hours run time. This additional upgrade over the 8SE not only makes it environmentally friendly (8SE takes 8 AA batteries, which does not last long while constantly tracking) but recharging only takes a couple of hours. For the cost I would have liked to have seen this kit include a x2 Barlow lens. I would recommend a couple of additional eye pieces, a Barlow lens, a moon viewing filter, and if budget permits an upgraded star diagonal to increase the enjoyment of your Evolution 8 and provide years of amazing views!

Absolutely in love with it since the moment I unboxed it. It arrived securely and very well packaged which I was nervous about until it arrived. I went with the 9.25 because of the amazing reviews and it did not disappoint. It comes with the tripod for the CPC1100 which is super stable. Yes, I do agree that the whole assembly is very heavy but think about all of the positives. I got the hang of the manual 2-3 star alignment using the keypad before I went over to the SkyPortal app. Everything is super easy to use and the quality is exceptional.Absolutely recommend this SCT. USB ports to charge your devices as well as a tray for your eye pieces. WiFi is built in so no need to purchase separately. The Celestron case only fits the tube for the 9.25 and not the mount as well so be sure to plan for a larger case or a separate one for your mount. I opted for the soft carry case (sold on here) for the tube and a custom tote with foam for the mount only.I know it is probably backordered for a while but it is well worth the wait. In the grand scheme of things, time is relative anyway. 5 stars all the way. You're worth it.

Clarify Alignment and Assembly Instructions
30 April 2022

Assembly is intuitive, but there is a slight learning curve. Some clarification need on instructions. Make sure to slide the scope all the way forward on the track until it seats on the grooved portion of the track and the label can be clearly seen, then tighten down the quick release knob. Preferably, test it out on a soft surface the first time in case you forget something and the scope slides. If it is correctly positioned and tightened on the track, the scope should not slide. Test it by wiggling it back and forth to make sure it doesn’t move. Also, for alignment using the wedge, use wedge align option under settings in the SkyPortal app. Remember to “teach” the telescope it’s home position first, before connecting and aligning, by moving the azimuth and ... MoreAssembly is intuitive, but there is a slight learning curve. Otherwise, you will keep getting error messages after the alignment process is complete, and the “go to” function will send the scope to incorrect positions. The scope gives some excellent viewing. For starters, you should be able to pick out Saturns rings, see Venus’s phases, and pick out Jupiter’s moons just using the 40 mm eyepiece.

Evolution 8. A very good tele
11 August 2022

Overall, a very good telescope. Bought it primarily to host starparties for the public. Easy set up and alignment to enable viewing as soon as possible. Sharp celestron optics which I expected. Have used it only few times and I am pleased thus far. My only criticism at this point is the eyepiece connection at base of OTA. There are only 2 small screws to secure the eyepiece. I was disappointed that there is no constriction band on the inside for better connection. But, so far, the eyepieces seem secure anyway. Telescope components are easily transportable.

Good scope but WiFi overrated.

Overall this is a great step up from smaller scopes and nearly fully automated. Assembly is pretty straightforward with the exception of step one - the accessory tray needs to be mounted UPSIDE DOWN or it won't attach properly (Celestron logo should point to ground as opposed to the diagram - took me ten minutes to figure this out). The Sky Portal app has some useful features, just be sure to power things up in specific order - scope power, connect mobile device to WiFi, THEN launch app or it will never connect. Included is a handheld controller holder which is not mentioned in the instructions, not positive where/how to mount it. Maybe on the fork handle? I have yet to get it aligned because of continual wifi dropout, if you're in heavy wifi traffic, be warned. ... MoreOverall this is a great step up from smaller scopes and nearly fully automated. The rechargeable battery is the big seller, others take 8 AA's which go fast. If you don't care about batteries or wifi, save $500 with the Nexstar SE.

A RACI finder is my next accessory and should have been included. All in all, I love this thing!

Not a good beginner telescope. Very bulky and heavy.
2 April 2022

A lot depends on what you want to use the telescope for. It’s fine for the moon and planets, brighter double stars, and bright deep space objects. However, it is not suitable for astrophotography of nebulae and fainter galaxies without adding an astrophotography camera ($1000 or so) and stacking software on a computer attached to the camera. There is a huge learning curve for this. Some reviews say it is “portable” but of course that depends on your physical strength. As a person in my mid-70s in fairly good shape but no weight lifter, I find that is quite difficult to attach the optical tube to the mount. The handles are not very helpful because you have to grab the optical tube in a bear hug while trying to slide the adapter onto the mount on thr tripod, which ... MoreA lot depends on what you want to use the telescope for. There is an old saying: the best telescope is the one that you actually use. If you are in a highly light polluted area and/or where there is a lot of cloudy weather, you will be tempted to say “maybe another night!” You won’t want to struggle to put the scope together only to have the clouds roll in. For a beginner telescope I would strongly recommend a much more portable setup like one of Celestron’s smaller Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes or a small reflector or small refractor. For sure, you won’t want to carry the assembled unit outside unless you have very good body strength.

I need to change it, as it was not working (I had to repair the internal switch) and even now that it works it is like a toy. I would have appreciated a small finder with lenses and with detachable eyepieces, to use also as guiding scope in the future.the alignment is not super easy if the sky is highly polluted (maybe it is just me) as it is difficult to find big stars with naked eyes and in the right position based on the backyard. I would have liked a more automatic alignment, maybe based on internal GPS.Overall, a wonderful product, with a very good construction quality (except for the star finder...).
