Chanel No 5, the very essence of femininity. A powdery floral bouquet housed in an iconic bottle with a minimalist design. A timeless, legendary fragrance. In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to create "a woman's perfume with a woman's scent", rare and powerful. The nose presented her with a visionary composition that made unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle chose the fifth sample of the fragrance, and decided to name it simply Chanel No 5. For this new fragrance, she opted for a bottle with a revolutionary design, adorned with a white label and topped with a faceted cabochon. In 1986, Jacques Polge, the CHANEL nose since 1978, reinterpreted his predecessor's composition to create a fuller version of Chanel No 5: the eau de parfum.Chanel No 5 eau de parfum draws inspiration from the parfum with which it shares its floral aldehyde signature. This floral bouquet composed around May Rose and Jasmine features bright citrus top notes. Aldehydes create a unique presence, and the smooth touch of Vanilla an incredibly sensual trail.

Christmas shopping has started early yet I still have hopes that my local Macy's will carry this for the holidays (disgraceful that it is so hard to get at Macy's here on the Big Island of Hawaii...used not to be this way). I truly believe, like so many others, it is a classic, that is also quite timeless. I do not personally find it dated or old-fashioned at all. I think some might find it old-fashioned as it is certainly unlike any fragrance that has come out the last two to three decades. It stands out in that respect. I think the word “vintage” better suits No 5.Aldehydes is the hard-hitter here, which I happen to adore. My nose kind of skips over the florals (and fruits); or rather it might be more appropriate to say: the florals linger in the background mostly, the fruity notes being even less noticeable. The base notes, however, are THERE and noticed very early on and not just in dry down. Sandalwood, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver…..I can specifically pick up on each note distinctively. The vanilla peaks through ever-so-slightly, but adds a subtle--but crucial--warmth and sweetness. It’s a potent little number, oh man is it ever. As an avid and admitted over-sprayer (I'm talking like 10+ sprays), I really and truly only need 2-3 sprays of No. 5, and no more, to make an impact. Fantastic silage, projection, and lasting-power. Like out of this world on all accounts.

Having worn Chanel No 19 Poudré for several days, I'm glad I didn't review it immediately. Today I realize that my initial impression was negative, mainly because No 19 Poudré isn't No 19. Neither does it leave a deep impression on one's memory, nor does it have the brilliant, original character of its predecessor. My reason for being drawn to No 19 Poudré is its ability to create a soft, tender veil around its wearer. My reason for being drawn to No 19 Poudré is its ability to create a soft, tender veil around its wearer. This version is soothing and mellow, with a sip of warm green tea to the original's dry white wine. A powdery floral scent dominates No 19 Poudré. The feeling of talcum mist is almost palpable when I spray it on my skin. Though No 19 Poudré takes a few twists and turns, its powdery character remains. While the brand has attempted to modernize No 19, I find the makeup-like notes in No 19 Poudré to be alluring in an old-fashioned way. Retro, however, is usually what sells me. Orange and mandarin notes settle into a cool iris and hyacinth note, infusing No 19 Poudré with fruity sweetness. A contrast is created between galbanum and vetiver's sharp green notes and the powdery notes' softness and lightness. Tonka beans and musk dominate the dry down. The initial impression is of a fabulous veil of powder, but the dry down is reminiscent of a delicate cashmere wrap. Although it is not particularly noteworthy or dramatic at this point, it is pleasant and easy to wear. Poudré shares some similarities with its predecessor, but only for a second. Although not particularly interesting, the vetiver is blended with a very soft, clean musk, which is quite pleasant. Despite staying close to the skin for most of the day, the base lasts a good few hours. This is not a bad fragrance, all the notes blend nicely, and it smells like a pretty green floral of high quality. Probably not for N°19 fans, Poudré is much softer and lighter, but for those who find the original too harsh, it may be worth

I love this alternative Chanel No. 5 fragrance. It is amazingly refreshing with a light powder scent as compared to its original. It gives the exact perfect amount of every ingredient in the formula. Can be worn all year long, as it is a versatile version. Definitely not heavy or over powering. It’s the modern take on an iconic scent. You will smell like sophistication and heaven wrapped into one bottle. You can wear this fragrance every day and never become tired of it. I without any doubt recommend highly this marvelous perfume!

A timeless favorite that brought my cat home

Quite literally. I can explain. First off, the product. I purchased this actually at the Chanel store at Cherry Creek, after getting samples to test whether I like it or not (I would go about this way before purchasing). I love it. It’s a more complex floral that doesn’t smell too sweet- the aldehydes add a complexity to it that enhances the smell even more, and it became my signature perfume.Which brings me to my cat. I began wearing this perfume around the same time we adopted two semi feral black cats into our household. This recent October, one of them accidentally got out to our devastation— he was gone for a whole day until we set up a live trap, in which the animal shelter we adopted them both from suggested having our clothing and familiar items cover the trap. I used my sweaters, and sprayed them both with this perfume, since I had worn it a lot around them both a LOT.Flash forward to later that night— our cat came home in the trap, munching on his food and is now safe with us. While other factors helped, I do believe this perfume helped him home. This will be my go to perfume for ages now!!

Good Scent But Not Like the Original
18 October 2022

I used Chanel No. 5 in the late sixties and in the seventies. I have some of the perfume left and it in no way smells like the rebooted version. Why perfume companies insist on naming their inferior products after the shining star classic originals is a shame. HOWEVER, I do like this scent and I do wear it. It is above and beyond the other scents of today which are made cheaply and all smell alike..like fly spray. This version doesn't last like the original. One little bit behind the ears or on the wrist would last all day long. With this version you have to reapply. A shame really.

I've been meaning to buy a bottle of this perfume for a while now; I'm not one to buy into hype (in any case different people like different scents) and I went in not sure what to expect. I spritzed a bit on my wrist and just fell in love! When I smelled it the first words that came to mind were soft, elegant, powdery, and I'm pretty much getting what the scent description described. If you prefer things similar to the sweeter/floral, sharper body sprays from Bath and Body Works (no shade, I love their stuff) you might not get into this scent. I personally think it's heavenly to smell, plain and simple. The only drawback is the price but a little goes a long way (I bought the smallest bottle) and I love the scent so much it was worth it to have a perfume I'll likely ... MoreI've been meaning to buy a bottle of this perfume for a while now; I'm not one to buy into hype (in any case different people like different scents) and I went in not sure what to expect. Chanel No. 5 is an iconic and timeless fragrance that has remained a favorite for decades. The sophisticated and elegant scent is perfect for any occasion, whether you're heading to the office or out on the town. The floral notes of jasmine and rose are perfectly balanced with the woody and amber undertones, creating a rich and complex aroma that is simply irresistible. The lasting power of this fragrance is impressive, as a single spritz can last for hours on end. Overall, Chanel No. 5 is a luxurious and high-quality fragrance that is well worth the investment. It is no wonder that it has remained a classic choice for so many women. Five stars!

I was gifted Chanel No. 5, by a Secret Admirer, when I was 15 years old. I went from the powdery, youthful, Love’s Baby Soft, to the incredibly complex Chanel No. 5, on that day. From a humble thankful woman: my mother used to take me to fundraising events she participated when I was a kid a million years ago. There were always beautiful, well dressed rich women in those events, needless to say, we belonged to the not so fortunate, but I never complain because I was happy with what the little bit I was blessed with. The only thing it always stayed with me is the smell of one of the lady’s Parfum. I remember I asked her what was that smelled so good! She said Chanel No. 5 honey, and I remember she also said is like the Rolex of Parfum (like I knew what in the world was a Rolex). Anyways, to make this story shorter I did my kid investigation and thought: oh well that goes to the list of things I will never own, impossible!!
