The body is thicker than I was expecting. Since I did not buy it in the store, I had it shipped to my house and put it together myself. I did in on day where temperatures were 25. It was cold but was straight forward. Took me about 3 1/2 hours with fighting with the cold, and alone. The next day it was 19 with a wind chill of 6 and I did an apple cherry smoke on top of the Canola Oil season, for 4 hours. Followed that up with a Smoking of baked potatoes and a port tenderloin. Oh so delicious everything came out. With that said I noticed a few things that I hope will help other out with this Grill/Smoker 1. Smoker side, with how small it is I have a 50 degree difference from far wall to the firebox side. (225 at wall, 275 at fire box) I may try to make my own diffuser plate. The lid Temp was was reading 300 while between the grate numbers. Now I have my base temps down. 3. The smoke leakage on my unit was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The firebox did not leak anything. My smoke leaks were around the far side of door, bottom by handle, and from around the smoke stack. All minuscule. I do not plan on doing mods to correct this. 4. The Propane side, as everyone says, does get hot fast. For my burn in season, I used one burner, at it held temperature on low at 325, or on high was 375. 5. The gas side lid was welded off, and Char-Griller is taking care of this issue, so I am giving their CS an A+ that they do value us customers. With the single usage I was able to get on it, more will come once the weather warms up more, I am very pleased with this. I bought this to replace an older gas grill, as I wanted a smoker, and with this having the gas side too, I can keep my grilling on weekdays also when I have a late work night. I do not plan on using the Charcoal side for charcoal, but strictly for a smoking chamber, and when I do charcoal grill, I will do this in the SFB.

Exactly what I wanted and expected. Assembly instructions were sometimes out of order (for what makes more sense getting your tools into tight places) and often not very clear. The smoker box is easy to empty and it’s easy to keep a consistent temperature on the main charcoal side when in use. Seriously heavy duty cast iron wheels make moving it a breeze. One down side is it doesn’t have a tray on the front like other models to store utensils or temp gauges.

ANYONE TRYING TO BUY A GRILL OR OTHER ITEM FROM CHARGRILLER - BEWARE! My initial email regarding an issue after using the smoker portion ONE TIME (SEE BELOW FOR THEIR RESPONSE) MY INITIAL EMAIL: I purchased the Chargriller TRIO less than a few weeks ago. I assembled the unit and one week ago, I did my first smoke. When I smoked, you will see that the paint on the smoker part peeled off and now looks like it is also showing rust. The affected are the side close to the grill portion and the back.I do not understand how this happens, especially after one 1 try from the smoker. When I read reviews, there were a couple of people saying that this happens but most of the reviews did not mention this. Thank you for reaching out to us. It is amazing to see how many customers are opting to add the flavor of smoking to their Barbeque prowess! Whether it's used as a portable grill or side firebox, the grill is a relatively small, confined area... Most recipes call for 180 - 220 degrees. It's easy to reach and maintain those temperatures in the main grill body,..outlined in the Owner's Manual for this grill. Typically, when we see this kind of damage, it's due to how much fuel and what kind of fuel is used. We in customer service know folks love the flavor of woods when they're smoking..The most important steps to take now are to prevent the grill from rusting. You'll want to remove any loose paint, sand down the affected area, and use a good high heat paint, such as Rustoleum for touch-ups. This is something that will be done from time to time depending on how often the grill is used and seasoned...

Purchased this grill as I wanted the ability to use gas, charcoal, and be able to smoke with it. Purchased it at Home Depot and assembled myself. Took my time and followed all the instructions and it took about 4 1/2 hours to assemble. Only required assistance when I added the side smoker. It is much easier to attach if you have someone steadying it as you attach it. I have grilled on it using the charcoal side and am very happy with the results. I would definitely recommend it.
I bought the grill from my local tractor supply store fro Xmas, and the girls at the store were amazing. I had some issues getting it since they were basically out of stock and the girls helped me get one. I tried to pick it up but they told me it was already assembled so it couldn't fit into my SUV. I thought "cool I don't have to mess with it" Wrong! I paid full price and recieved what looked like a return. The lids were sprayed painted to cover up scratches, the inside was stained from the charcoal smoke and one leg has a stripped bolt and I can’t even get it out. I called customer service and made a claimed. TSC0068648 The lady told me they were going to contact me but to this day they have not. I purchased this grill and when assembling it I noticed that the lock washers were almost the same size as the holes and questioned if they would hold. After assembling the grill I moved it in the garage on the cement floor and pushing backwards and turning slightly and the bolt pulled through the hole on the bottom tray on the wheel end. It did not damage the hole on the tray because the bolt and lock washers are almost the same size as the holes in the bottom tray. The same size of holes on the legs and same size of bolts are used so I'm sure much movement it could fall apart. Any engineer should have known this could happen but it's probably about cutting cost not profit. When opening it had some scratches down to bare metal and one bent leg. I fixed the leg. I contacted customer service and was told to create a claim but I would only get the exact same parts which would not fix the problem. And then just stopped talking and said have a great day. Now that's poor customer service. When I was only asking for 20 flat washers that were bigger in outside diameter so they wouldn't pull through and being painted black and a little touch up paint but was basically told that you only get the same exact parts. Also the lid on the charcoal cooking side doesn't close all of the way it was welded crooked so it won't seal all of the way unless you purchase a seal or use a strap pulling the lid down and over some. If you decide to purchase one of these be sure to check it over better and hopefully they change some of the parts before it falls apart and hurts someone.
Really like this grill overall. This is my first side firebox "Texas Style" smoker. Coming from a Weber Kettle there was a learning curve. Seeing how the fire box is in two pieces for shipping and needs to be bolted together. I still get some draft from the seam. Even with the firebox dampener completely closed. Hopefully this will seal up with more use. After six months of use the finish still looks great. I seasoned the grill a few times before first use. Seeing how the grill is on an exposed back porch to weather. I purchased the cover. I highly recommend the cover. Fits nicely and is fairly thick. After seeing some pictures in reviews before purchasing this grill with all the rust issues. I don't understand it. Seeing how the grill is on an exposed back porch to weather. I purchased the cover. I highly recommend the cover. Fits nicely and is fairly thick. After seeing some pictures in reviews before purchasing this grill with all the rust issues. I don't understand it. I spray the grates and inside of the grill once a month with cooking oil. It has seasoned up nicely in six months of use. Those that have rust on the top and bottom of the grill clearly burnt way to hot of a fire and damaged the finish. Learn how these grills work. You don't throw 20lbs of fuel and a whole bottle of lighter fluid into it, while drinking beer and light it.The gas side runs a little hot for me. About 350 degrees in the heat of summer, 300 in the cold of winter. This is with only one burner on low. Was hoping it would operate at a little lower temp. to be able to move stuff over from the charcoal/wood side to gas side to keep food warm. Not that big a deal. The gas side is great for burgers, hot dogs, brauts etc when you just quickly want to grill out mid week. The side burner is awesome to use with a chimney starter when doing long smokes. Throw some wood or coal into chimney starter and let the gas burner get the coals cooked down. Slide the side box ash dump out to add fresh coals. This helps keep the main smoker box temp from dropping less. Opening the main firebox door causes temps to fluctuate a fair amount.Only real complaint I have is one of the wheel axles was welded to far inward. Unable to get the cotter pin in to keep the wheel on. Used a thinner piece of wire. Not that big a deal. I don't plan on moving this beast around. It weighs 200lbs. Definitely build this grill where you want it for a long time.No need in wasting time painting the inside of the grill. Just season it with vegetable oil. Had the manufacture felt it was needed. They would have powder coated it when they made it. They probably didn't want some drunken redneck building a 700 degree fire and getting food poisoning from the burnt finish while they overcook thier food on to hot a fire. This really is a great grill. It just takes some time to learn.I also use digital heat thermometers for more accurate heat readings. The generic thermometers on the two lids show the internal temps to be 25 degrees ore more higher than they actually are.
Purchased this grill as I wanted the ability to use gas, charcoal, and be able to smoke with it. Purchased it at Home Depot and it came assembled. I have only 3 somewhat minor issues. 1. All the cast iron cooking grates are not porcelain coated, they are raw cast iron. 2. One if the grates has a piece broken off. 3. While trying to season the gas side, the temperature would not stop rising well above the 250 deg even with only ONE burner on LOW. Could the regulator be bad? all in all I like the grill.
We bought this because of the number of grilling choices that it offered. However, when I was assembling it I found all sorts of issues with the manufacturing of the grill parts. One leg of the shafts for the wheel was too small and I was not able to install the wheel, drilled and tapped the shaft for a bolt and I am back to assembly. Several of the nutsert's were stripped, so back to retapping them to make them work correctly. Parts were bent and paint was scratched. Some parts were missing paint altogether, so back to the hardware store for high temp paint. But the grill is assembled and yes it is working. WE smoked Chicken last night after the seasoning process was completed. come out crisp and nice, no real smoke like my GMG grill though. You can definitely see, feel and taste the difference from GMG to this grill, GMG being the better of the two on all three fronts there. The gas grill is so hot that I can only turn on one burner, and even then it will not get lower than 300 degrees, which is way too hot for most of my grilling. Hey, they asked me to review this grill, so I did, just not that great of a grill for the money that I spent on it. If I could return it I would, and will be looking into doing that.
The first time I ordered this grill we had to drive over an hour to pick it up, because evidently anything I need cant be shipped to my local store anymore. The package weights over 200 lbs and is some of the flimsiest cardboard imaginable. The packing staps had busted through and some of parts were poking out the bottom. When we opened the package there were huge dents and scratches that went deep into the metal. We paid stupid money to have the 2nd grill delivered to the house, and again, the packaging was busted through. Two of the legs had bent corners on the screw plate and there are some minor scratches, but I hammered the corners flat and just accepted the poor quality at that point. An expensive subpar item.
