11 lbs. mealworms

This is so much more cost effective than buying it from local farm suppliers as they only sell bags no bigger than 2.5 pound bags and the price is nearly twice what Chubby charges!I only wish that this was a product made in the U.S. but I can understand what large farmers go though with the constant complaints from people ... MoreWe have 35 chickens and they get very excited when they see us coming with these worms. I have been buying these for some time. When I receive them, I transfer them to a large plastic container. For convenience I fill a smaller old mealworms bag to keep in the house to replenish the feeders. One day I noticed many small black bugs and a beige powder all over the bag. I emptied it and disinfected the bag, but the powdery stuff and bugs continued. I looked into the plastic bin but saw nothing there. I’ve now tossed the old mealworms bag and hoping nothing like that develops again. I’ve bought many worms in the past with nothing similar happening. Your door-to-door service is great!

Chubby Mealworms are the best!
17 February 2017

I've been ordering Chubby mealworms direct of the website and I couldn't be happier. I used to buy another brand at my local feed stores, and they were good quality as my birds loved them, but it's much easier and less expensive to order them in bulk direct from Chubby MW. Plus the quality seems even better. I like the fact that CMW also offers freeze dried - I haven't tried them yet but I'm sure they're good. I've never seen freeze dried anywhere else. Also, CMW has the best selection of package sizes of mealworms. And last, shipping is free. I love the fact that CMW are offered in larger sizes than what you find in the feed stores for less cost per pound, but when you throw in free shipping too it makes them the best value around.

Farmily Review

Since I, the quasi mother of all hens and rooster, have already reviewed the smaller packages of Chubby Dried Mealworms I decided to ask the ones that really know what they are squawking about. The Fab 5, Emila, Annie, Whoo, Penny and LoLo where the first to give me their unbiased opinion. The Fab 5 gave it a 5 peck rating with extra points for making such a big bag. They informed me unison that they found the taste superior to any dried mealworms they have had before. (* note from quasi mom - Don't know what they are talking about they have only had Chubby Dried Mealworms. I think they are kissing up for an extra ration.)Pip and Squeak where the next two to give their opinion, though neither one of them will admit to being the smallest chickens ever seen on this ... MoreSince I, the quasi mother of all hens and rooster, have already reviewed the smaller packages of Chubby Dried Mealworms I decided to ask the ones that really know what they are squawking about. The Fab 5, Emila, Annie, Whoo, Penny and LoLo where the first to give me their unbiased opinion. He believes they give him his superpowers of persuasion with the ladies. Pip, after giving Squeak a side glare, doesn't know about any superpowers with the ladies he thinks he has since they all run from the little Napoleon. She told me that's what the chicks call him behind his feathers, but she does think Chubby Dried Mealworms are something to crow about if she could. The three Amigos, Polly, Peep and Iris are older and more mature and have been eating Chubby mealworms for 2 plus years. They believe their opinion should be more valued because of their maturity and the fact they had to suffer through some mediocre to really unflavorful mealworms before their feeder finally got smart and gave them these according to Polly and Penny. While Iris is really not happy with the newer members to the farmily she is pleased to see the bigger bags of the Chubby Dried Mealworms show up and will peck at the bag when she feels she is not getting her fair share. There you have it, a flock of opinions from the farmily feathered members.

If You Look Long Enough….You Might Think They’re Wriggling
26 January 2019

For the second winter, I am adding Chubby Mealworms and Chubby Calci-Worms to the homemade scratch that I make for my chickens (red milo, safflower seed, hulled sunflower seeds, whole non-gmo corn, a non-gmo gourmet woodpecker mix of nuts, and the Chubbies). I like to give my girls a lot of extra protein and a moderate amount of extra carbs in the winter, to help with replacing feathers, keeping warm in the frigid Iowa winter, and promoting winter egg laying.I recently placed my second order for a 15 pound bag of mealworms and an 11 pound bag of calci-worms. The customer service is excellent, as I was given the sale price on a sale I had just barely missed out on, and I didn’t even ask for it. Wow!! The regular shipping was very quick. I ordered after hours one evening, the box had mailed by the next morning, and I received it 48 hours later. The products themselves are high quality as far as I can tell. My chickens eat them right up, and they actually smell pretty good to me, although I confess that I have not tried them myself. I’ll take the girls’ word for it.My only complaint is that the 11 pound bag of calci-worms came in a thin, clear plastic bag, like last year, that must be cut (or torn) open and does not re-seal, even though the product page for this 11 pound bag of CALCI-WORMS says, "11lbs of Chubby Dried Mealworms come packed in a clear plastic re-sealable bag”. This clear, plastic, non-sealable bag was the one thing I disliked last winter about the product, and I specifically looked this time to be sure they had changed the packaging to a re-sealable bag. I don’t think I would have purchased the calci-worms except that the product page indicated a re-sealable bag. I really hope Chubby will make the packaging better on the calci-worms by the time I need to order more. Thanks, Chubby!

My Hens Just Love Chubby Mealworms!
11 December 2014

Not only do my girls love to see me coming with the bag, they come running from all over the yard and literally hop at my feet if I am not fast enough with opening. I have never had that reaction before with any other mealworm treat I've given them. And, compared to prior brands I have used, there are no 'shells', those empty exoskeletons with no nutritional value. The Chubby mealworms are really plump!I have to say, about half my small flock is over 7 years old and stopped laying over a year ago. But since I started feeding Chubby mealworms as treats this past month, they have started laying again! Coincidence? I don't think so! And all my girls get to free range and a special mix of feed so that they aren't missing any nutrients. (Truly spoiled pets!)Thank you ... MoreNot only do my girls love to see me coming with the bag, they come running from all over the yard and literally hop at my feet if I am not fast enough with opening. The Biddies' Favorite Treat
9 February 2016

For the several years we've have backyard hens, we've never had any of them stop laying during a molt or show that she's molting because the feathers grew back as quickly as they were shed. This fall, however, I was gone for seven weeks and my chicken-sitters didn't know to give the girls extra meal worms when molting started. I was shocked when I came home and saw bedraggled hens! That never happened before. And one of them even stopped laying. I don't mind the lack of eggs, but the biddies were terribly embarrassed by their appearance. I quickly added meal worms back to their daily treat, and the girls look much better now. That extra protein makes all the difference.

Very lightweight

Ordered 10kg. Didn't realise how light they weigh. Should last months! Been buying seed with mealworms already added from elsewhere which is expensive. So bought seed from well know American wholesaler and then mixed in mealworms as I filled the bird feed bin up with 25kgs of seed. Added plenty and still hardly touched the first bag. Luckily the remainder fitted in a sealable tub I had as not sure the bag can be resealed. The Chubby mealworms seem to be bigger than the ones that were premixed in usual feed and the birds are not leaving any on their plates! Can't fill the feeders quick enough.I have since seen mealworms are cheaper in a High St/Retail Park chain store that sells everything but I don't suppose they are as good quality and not a lot in it if you bulk ... MoreOrdered 10kg. Wild Bird Treat
7 June 2016

We started buying Chubby Mealworms for our orioles, grosbeaks and Western Tanagers, but they ignore the worms. The mockingbirds, a couple of male House Finches, Collared Doves, and Mourning Doves have taken over the tray. The worms are REALLY popular for feeding the babies. The birds camp put in the tray until the larger birds kick them out. There is a definate "pecking order." We bought 44 pounds to make feeding the "pigs with wings" cheaper. We still hope that the orioles will start to eat the worms, but we have numerous jelly, orange and nectar feeders that keep them and their kids well fed.Feeding Chubby Mealworms gives us many hours of bird watching pleasure.
