I dye my hair a lot because I hate my natural poop brown hair color. I love my Splat, Manic Panic, and Arctic Fox hair dyes but when I'm not Aquamarine blue or Phantom Green, I'm either jet black or some fun variety of black, like Garnier Teal Forest or Got2b Mermaid Green. I tried Clairol Natural Instincts because it was on sale at Walgreens and I was curious. It's a lovely color. It's bold enough to stand out but still appropriate for work. It's easy to use, doesn't smell too chemically, and left my hair feeling smooth. However it seemed to not last as long as other semi permanent dyes and stained my skin and bathroom worse than expected. This dye is ideal for folks who want to experiment with hair color or just do something fun for a little bit. I like this hair dye kit a lot. It includes everything I need for an easy process: instructions, gloves, dispenser with pointy tip that can go to every corner from the roots, and hair mask.The smell wasn't awful. Not amazingly great but not bad either. I could smell some sort of floral note in it, and some chemical smell.I love how the color turned out. It's bold and bright. My natural hair is quite thick and dark so it's not easy to pull out the exact color on the box, my hair would need bleach. Although I still like the way it appeared and I got compliments on it.The Moisture Shine Mask is everything. My hair felt smooth and shiny and healthy everytime I used it. I recieved this product free from both Home Tester Club and Natural Instincts in exchange for an honest opinion. Super easy with awesome directions for perfect step by step coloring guide. Just mix 2 item together and shake. I did my roots first and separated with a fine tooth comb(not included). Then took the sections of my hair and just squirted some of the dye all over and rub it in. There was plenty for my whole head to be fully covered so only needed one box.As directed, I jumped in the shower rinsed it all out, shampooed and conditioned with the supplied conditioner. In all fairness, I also had dyed it dark several weeks prior. So, I am not positive about how much that played a factor. The dye itself was a good consistency so it did not drip terribly. There was very little "dye" smell but nothing I would consider a good smell either. I usually love the after-color conditioner, but again, it was just okay. Not much of a scent. The color didn't really show but did give it a subtle reddish shine that can be seen beautifully in the sun. For me, the color is constantly rubbing off. I had no idea natural instincts made permanent color. I thought they only made semi permanent haircolor. I was so excited to try this product. So the color I tested was BR36. It is a burgundy red color. And it came out gorgeous. What I love is that is has Arkham oil in it. And it is gentle on your hair. It even colors dark bases which I have. My hair is a medium dark brown with gray mixed in. So the red came out vibrant which I hope lasts. They provide a moisture shine mask which is supposed to lock your color in. Reds tend to fade easily so I am hoping they are right. Word of caution wear different gloves if you can. The red can get very messy and the plastic gloves they provide in the box aren’t that good. Keep in mind if your hair is already color treated how the base will impact the end color result. My hair was colored 6 weeks prior with a medium golden brown. The color is easy to mix in the bottle. I appreciate the box insert that you can cut out to keep if you would like a reference to purchase the color again in the future. My hair is thin and about shoulder length. I was worried the color would come out too dark but it is a very nice "plum" red. I will say that my hair is pre-lightened and I already had read ends so I was using this as a refresher. I believe I already submitted a review shortly after using product on my daughter. But it has been over a month now and I'm glad I have a 2nd chance to update! The color did turn out very vibrant and pretty! WARNING! It says 28 washes and that is an understatement! Great for someone trying to achieve RED long-lasting! But my daughter is over it now. I am a hairstylist and used a pro color eraser on this a few days ago and it DID NOT BUDGE! I'm assuming because it's more of a natural product so it definitely attaches in the hair! I even colored over it with an ASH BLUE base and the red is still very prominent! i have virgin black hair and i got the violet shade as it looked like it would come out as a dark purple..... but it did not. i got black hair instead. Now, i will say i probably have like 5%-10% gray/white hair and this did cover that. i managed to find one strand of previous white hair and the dye did absorb and came out as a beautiful violet, however since my hair is predominately black, it didnt show. Even in sunlight, it looks black. i will say i love that this was not a harsh product -- it did not smell bad or burn my scalp and with the conditioning hair mask included, my hair came out incredibly soft and shiny. With my hair being down to my mid back, i purchased 2 boxes, which covered my hair fully, with a bit left over.
