Before discussing the product itself, I would like to address the sample packaging because I believe it played into how well the product worked…or, perhaps more importantly, why it may not have worked as well as it should have. This serum formula contains two liquids, which need to be mixed together before applying. The sample card had each type of serum in a separate compartment on the flat (credit card sized) card, which had to be folded in half to open. You then pressed on each compartment upward to release the serums. I dispensed it on the back of my hand, and then mixed the two together before applying. Unfortunately, there seemed to be much more of the amber colored serum (the part of the formula which contains turmeric) and much less of the clear serum in the second compartment. This made it very difficult to know if I was dispensing the correct balance of the two. I think it would’ve been much easier and more accurate if each of the serum components came in individual vials as opposed to the packaging it did. Additionally, I hoped to be able to use the product morning and evening, but found that I really only had enough to cover my face once, so this review is based on my using it in my nighttime routine only. Onto the product itself….it goes on as one would expect a slightly oily serum to apply - somewhat tacky, but with a little time, absorbing nicely into the skin. I did like how my skin felt after applying, very soft and hydrated. I have extremely dry skin, so this was a formula that my skin took to very well.  The product claims are that it is anti-aging, formulated with potent plant extracts, and promises visibly firmer, smoother, more radiant skin in 7 days. As an older woman with appropriately aging skin, I certainly welcomed all of those benefits! Did I feel it lived up to the claims? Honestly, hard to tell in 7 days , but it has potential.  Slightly smoother, and a tiny bit more radiant, yes.  Visibly firmer? Nothing noticeable, at least not in such a short timeframe. It did feel comforting on the skin which I liked a lot, but I truly would have loved a longer trial period and a bit more product so I could have given it a proper and thorough review. Facial serums can be pricey, and this one is no exception - my advice is to try to obtain samples before committing to a purchase and then decide for yourself if this one stands out among the others in the skin serum space.

When mixing both the clear and amber colored components I first thought that it wouldn’t be enough to cover my face but I was wrong. It not only covered my face, but also my neck. The serum feels light once applied, there is a slightly odd sensation (as though I had been sitting in the sun) a sun kissed feeling. 🍀I can continue to smell the soapy scent for about hours later and the serum sets sort of dewy so my skin looks hydrated. After a full day, my face feels kind of nasty…. To the touch, it’s super soft but really oily, my face physically feels as though I have been eating a fried pastry and the oil has spread around my face. If you have normal to oily skin, I would avoid a moisturizer, after this application. I am also not confident that makeup will perform well over this amount of oiliness. I really have the desire to just wash it all off….I do not like the dirty oily feeling. 🍀Aside from the oily feeling the serum actually makes my skin look oily (it is just so shiny) and after day two and three nothing has changed. My face looks exactly the same and the oiliness continues. 🍀On day four to seven my skin begins to absorb the product more, the oily feeling isn’t felt as much, and before and after washes my skin feels amazing. There is no visible change in my skin but it is really soft, hydrated, and not reacting in any negative way to the formula. Maybe I just need more time then others, I also noted that the previous sun kissed, and heated sensation have now become more of a firming sensation (it just took some time). 🍀Lastly, if you wear makeup daily I suggest beginning your routine at night for the first four to five days. This will allow your skin time to adjust and learn to absorb this product. Once your skin begins absorbing it, and looks dewy and not oily, makeup applies perfectly over it and does not separate. In addition, Clarins official policy is that they do not test on animals, however, they sell in parts of the world that require it. I have a few Clarins products that I've purchased and truly love but I am trying to be more conscious of how I spend and hope Clarins considers a change soon.

Since hitting my 40s a few years ago I've become incredibly conscious of my ageing skin and the gradual decline in its elasticity and brightness. I like to experiment with trying different skin care ranges and particularly those designed to tackle the signs of ageing. I've used the odd Clarins product in the past but never used one in my regular skincare regime until now. The serum itself smells delicious and is a liquid gel consistency, not at all oily, greasy or sticky, which soaks in well to the skin leaving a lovely dewing glow. The concentrate instantly hydrates and feels very comfortable on the skin. I have peri-menopausal break outs at the moment and over the space of a few weeks use I have seen a definite improvement in clearing the spots and less frequent break outs which is a wonderful confidence boost. My skin most definitely feels softer and smoother, more nourished and generally more fresher and dare I say plumper. This is a great concentrated serum in a decent sized bottle which used sparingly will last a long time, a little definitely goes a long way.

It swears by "21 exotic plant extracts" except, first, most of them are less concentrated than "fragrance/parfum". Secondly most of them are ingredients like kiwi, banana, mango, oat, avocado oil? Anything that says "natural anti-aging with plants!" Beware, they're grifting on the fear consumers have of "unnatural things". In reality, organic compounds from many fruits and plant extracts are more irritating and less bioavailable than synthetic molecules. There are very few plant compounds that have positive effects consistently seen in human trials, that is, that they don't have a generally negative impact. Just look into K beauty brands with plant ingredients, vitamins, and ferments that have at least been studied for some time in Korea. Most other countries cosmetic approval policies are a lot more of a free for all and claims can be made without any proof. For example, here in America, cosmetics (and things calling themselves cosmetics when no one's paying attention) are virtually unregulated and defined as "anything that's put on the outside of the body with the intention of improving aesthetics" so. Just read ingredients before purchasing things, avoid gimmicks. Some expensive brands are really worth the money. This however does nothing for aging outside of plumping the skin temporarily with glycerin.

I was dying to try Double Serum Firming & Smoothing Anti-Aging Concentrate from Clarins, looking at its impressive ingredients list and also its high price point. After using it for a week, I feel like this product has both pros and cons for me. The concentrate consists of 2 formulas which you have to mix before applying: an orange oil phase and a transparent gel-like phase. The serum has a strong floral scent which is okay for me, but may be a bit overwhelming for those who prefer unscented products, it smells more like a perfume than skincare. After application, it doesn't feel like a serum at all, it feels like a real face OIL. The Clarins Double Serum Complete Anti-Aging Concentrate (Hydric + Lipidic System) is a two-in-one formula that is similar to the skins hydrolipidic film, both water and oil soluble, with 21 potent plant extracts, for visibly smoother, firmer and more radiant skin. The brand claims that its suppose to visibly reduce fine lines, wrinkles and promote skin firmness, visibly tighten pores, it also hydrates and smooths skin and helps repair and strengthen the skin barrier. Im also not the type to waste products so I tried my best to squeeze out every last drop. I do feel Clarins could have done a better job on the sample packages because I did struggle a little to take it all out. Sadly I will not be purchasing this serum not because it left my face with little tiny acne bumps but because of the fragrance. I felt it was a little too strong for me and fragrance doesnt do too well with my skin which is why I broke out. I also felt that the serum didnt do much for my face. It didnt combat my fine lines on my forehead nor did it help with my smile lines, it didnt tighten my pores or visibly firm my skin. Its also on the pricey side.
