Bought this device for top rope solo rock climbing and the device works well. It is one of the best tools for TR solo and has easy adjustment with great rope grab. Would highly recommend for TR soloing.

This is an awesome product. You can use it as a rope grab, a simple pulley, or even in place of a prussic cord. And when used as a pulley to lift something heavy...let's say like a hunter raising a couple hundred pound deer in the air. When you get what you are lifting up to where you want, you can just let go. The rope grab holds it in place. No more trying hold the weight with one hand and trying to tie it off with the other hand. Yes sir, this is a very handy tool indeed.

The Roll and Lock is great for top rope soloing and short ascending help outs. I use this as my primary device with a Kong Duck on a second rope as my backup. I was using a Petzl Croll as a back up but was getting worried about the abrasion from the teeth wearing out my rope sooner, probably unjustifed but it makes me feel safer. I have taken a heap of falls without the Roll and Lock failing at any time. Safe as.

I bought Climbing Technology RollNlock. I need a block-brake for rescue slaves. In the manual ( https://www.climbingtechnology.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/instruction-manual-rollnlock.pdf ), I saw that he does it. But in the first tests, he immediately switched to the Roll mode. The video shows how the rope touches the lever and places it in roller mode. I think this is unacceptable for a device that can be used in gluing works. I almost dropped my partner, he three times switched to the Roll mode.I do not understand how no one has ever noticed these defects in the design. I believe that the device has never been used for such tasks.Climbing Technology does not answer me
I would just caution anyone from using this on an adjustable lanyard or bridge. If you're tending slack, depending on the angle you pull the rope out at you can roll the gear far enough back to engage the lock (turning it into a pulley instead of progress capture). In my eyes this is a design flaw. The lock should not automatically engage simply by changing the angle the rope moves through the device. This has happened to me twice in the half dozen or so times I've used it. The second time it happened I was using it on a lanyard as I moved my anchor in the tree. Didn't fall, but did end up aggravating an already bad shoulder. Had this not happened, I would have gladly given it a 4 star rating, but seeing as it fails to serve the one purpose I had for purchasing it, ... MoreI would just caution anyone from using this on an adjustable lanyard or bridge. It works so well that I had a hard time trusting it at first with top rope solo. It’s very quiet and smooth. Lightweight and takes up very little room on the rack. Have used it in running belay as well to help protect the follower.I also use this for fixing the height of tools/holds bucket while setting routes. Then when it’s time get back down I just lock it open and lower the bucket.Keeping the carabiner away from the teeth is worth the extra money over something like a rope man.
The CT Roll-n-lock has a "Request For Inspection" for the issue mentioned in the "Good Theory, Questionable Practice" review. This issue is known to CT and they have implemented a fix in all new Rollnlock units manufactured since the issue was identified. There is a list of affected batch numbers on their website - along with a video of how to verify whether a unit has this issue. They offer free replacement for any that are affected.
I had purchased for use of the "O rig" for MRS. I'm satisfied with the few times I've used it for the intended purpose. Was impressed when I discovered how many different ways it could be utilized. Happy with my purchase so far with the minimal use. Looking forward to putting it to use in different situations.
Super compact and easy to use. My primary use is in combo with the Petzel Triact Pulley Carabiner to gain mechanical advantage when pulling my self up using aDMM hitch climber set up. Pull myself up easy peasy which is not bad for a 73 year young tree climber. Not near as fast as SRT but what the hey I'm in no rush while being safe.
Very nice, handy and well-made Easy to use. One minor consideration is the progress capture function is fine for lighter materials, but a bit less than optimal for heavy loads- but there’s a tool for every job and this product is great for the intended purposes!
