The build quality is good.Rather thick austenitic stainless steel body. The plunger is made of plastic with its rim surrounded by silicone gasket. The tinted lid is made of acrylic and its rim surrounded by a silicone gasket as well. You can hear the swishing sound of displaced air as you pushed the plunger downward into the can. I can't smell the coffee beans with the plunger in locking position, indication that it was air-tight alright. I shall assess its effectiveness in preserving the coffee beans freshness after having used it for a couple of months.

Awesome Airscape storage - I have several 64oz cans but they found their way to my drip coffee area. I have had these (stainless finish) for many years and they are like new - the sealing gaskets are excellent and don't degrade in the least. I have cleaned them a few times to remove oil, etc and the robust gaskets come off easily, clean well and also are easily re-installed.I order 3 x 340gm Espresso on on a regular basis and had been using canning jars for storage - small ones so I didn't have to have too much coffee in my grinder potentially drying out at my 1-2 cups/day usage. Filling the jars was a total pain, usually filling 10-12 jars or so and then moving them to a cupboard shelf. The new 1Kg Airscape jar easily holds my 3 bags and could probably hold a 4th ... MoreAwesome Airscape storage - I have several 64oz cans but they found their way to my drip coffee area. I now also keep the container on the counter near my espresso area making the whole exercise a no brainer. When I want to half fill my grinder reservoir, I just use a large kitchen spoon or soup ladle.

Aside from winning style points, the product does what it is supposed to do. While I gave it five stars, in reality - I would give it 4.5 stars. Two things to note: 1) I would definitely recommend that this be used to store whole coffee beans versus leaving excess beans in the hopper to lose flavor; and 2) If you don't mind the small mess, you can use this to store coffee regardless of how you grind it. While the air does get locked out, a small amount of coffee regardless of how you grind your coffee (fine, medium, or coarse) will scatter as you pull the lid even if you are extra careful. Because of this, I would not use this to store sugar, flour, or any type of ground spices.

These storage containers were purchased to store fresh coffee beans. I buy by the kilo and it is difficult to keep the beans fresh down to the last shot without proper expelling of air. These Airscape canisters are perfect for the job. They are made of strong metal with plastic lids. The inner lid has a one-way valve and a thick handle used to press the lid down onto the beans, expelling the air as it goes. It has a thick, silicone seal around the edge and is quite a tight fit so it does take some effort on the large canisters to push it down and also pull it up. On top of that, there is another smoky plastic lid with a seal to further prevent the ingress of air. On top of that, there is another smoky plastic lid with a seal to further prevent the ingress of air. The large canisters hold a full kilo of beans with space to spare and I can slip my coffee scoop on top of the first lid and still fit the second lid on top.The effort required to open and close the inner lid on the large canister was rather too much for me every time I wanted to make a coffee, several times daily so I also bought the small canisters that hold around 250g of beans. I just have to open the large canisters a couple of times a week to refill the small ones which are much easier to manage on a day to day basis although the seal is equally tight. Being that much smaller in diameter makes them much easier to move up and down.I am delighted with my purchase and they are definitely worth the money although not cheap. They look great in my kitchen too!
Really worthwhile having one of these if you appreciate when coffee is fresh, either ground or beans. Vacuum sealed, in a dark container. Every time I open the container I just grind the beans I need for my espresso machine then seal again. The fresh aroma is like opening a new coffee packet every time you open it. I like the way you have the inner vacuum press lid then the glass lid to top off the container. You can then put the label for your coffee in there to remind you what coffee you have on the go and the taste notes. Very happy with this and the fact you get a free bag of coffee with it.
It's big, holds a kilo of coffee without air and light helping them to last longer. Easy to operate and clean. I put 1kg of coffee in there and transfer to smaller containers on demand. Ideal to rest coffee just roasted.Unlike the smaller canisters, the Kilo is not made of St.St. but galvanised and painted carbon steel, so it must be handled with care, washed by hand and avoiding dents or deep scratches. Perhaps is more convenient 2 x 500g although they cost almost double the price of the Kilo.
This canister protects well the beans keeping them fresh for more than the time recommended by the roaster, no light, most of the air is removed and it's easy to operate.Paint is very delicate and it can be scratched easily. After one week, my canister looked not that good, it got scratches just from pulling out and putting it back in the covert. Canisters with white paint are more resistant or perhaps hide the scratches better. At the end, as it is made of St.St., scratches won't hurt the canister, it's only the aesthetics.
These Airscape Coffee Storage Containers are really smart looking and a good size. The 250g version is nice and wide but not too tall - short and chunky if you like. Easily holds the stated amount. Clever idea using that inner lid to push down to the contents level in the container pushing air out as you do so. I like to keep a cut out of the beans description label from the bag in there on top of the inner lid which I can glance at through the clear top lid. The only slight criticism is that the top lid seal allows for a little wiggle movement and doesn’t always feel flush shut. You can improve it by pushing down and twisting left and right but still sometimes lifting the container up from the lids protruding sides gives the feeling like it could loosen off and ... MoreThese Airscape Coffee Storage Containers are really smart looking and a good size. You can improve it by pushing down and twisting left and right but still sometimes lifting the container up from the lids protruding sides gives the feeling like it could loosen off and potentially drop the container. It probably won’t though, just feels like it and the inner lid does the sealed protection from the air anyway. They stack on top of each other well too which is good. All in all very nice and they come with a bag of origin beans. Lovely.
I own several Airscape Kilo coffee cannisters. I buy my preferred coffees in 2 pound packaging usually within a month of brewed beans. I usually keep several loaded with a kilo of beans(2.2 pounds by weight). There is room for almost 3 pounds and the tight fitting silicone sealed inner lid allows you push all the air out and lock in place and with a second lid that fits tight over the whole canister. I have had mine for 3 years from both Amazon and Seattle Coffee Gear. I highly recommend these for your coffee. Two pounds of beans only lasts me about 10 days.
Really well made, durable and definitely helps keep the coffee fresh. Both seals (inner and upper) are excellent. The fact that you can actively push out air, lock it down and then seal at the top of the canister to prevent any oxygen from getting in is a game changer! Rubber grip on the base also means your worktop is protected and the base of canister is protected too. Absolute bonus point from RAVE is that their profile cards from each bag of coffee fit in the top of the canister, so if you have multiple cans, you store a variety of beans, seeing quickly at a glance what is in each.
