Nice heavy knife, sharp edge. Good fitting sheath. Complete knife is coated with a paint like material, chips very easily. New knife arrived with chips & nicks. Very poor finish for a working blade.

Picked this up for a new camping knife. Works perfectly. Can perform a range of tasks from cleaning and prepping game, site prep, fire starting and more. This knife holds its edge very well too. This forged blade is built to last. I have even used it as a pry bar from time to time with no issue. Sheath locks knife in so it wont fall out unwanted. Its like a kydex holster for your knife. Will definitely be getting a second one. One final thought is that I was expecting this knife to be black but its not picture is kind of deceiving. When I received it its actually more like gun metal gray. Didnt make a difference to me just nice to know in advance.

This is a great knife for camp use! Not meant to be a chopper, but can do a decent job there. Very sharp! Quality to price ratio is spot on! You get what you pay for and then some!

As always Cold Steel has created a high end knife at a reasonable price. Great feel, solid construction, and super sharp. Sheath locks the knife in tight, but easily accessible when needed.
This knife is as the picture shows. Is a little heavy because is a very large fixed blade, but that's what I wanted. I feel very comfortable using it for such a large knife. Once I get some more use I will be able to tell more. haven't use it much yet, but it will.
For those of you that carried or like the Recon Scout. This knife made out of one forged piece of 52100 is one awesome knife. It came in shaving sharp. It has a good weight to it for heavy cutting or chopping and a fine point for more detailed work. Keep in mind it is a large knife and it definitely up to heavy duty work.
The fewer the moving parts on something already well made the better. Made of the same steel as other Cold Steel knife blades, this knife has no moving parts at all; it is one piece. It is virtually indestructable.
Cold Steel has surprised me once again! As a fan of their older American made stuff, this one pushes all the right buttons for me. Compares very favorably with the Recon Scout. Excellent hard use knife that will go to the wall with you.
The cold steel drop forged survivalist is an overall winning combination of durability, edge retention and simple tactical design. The sheath is similar in quality and holds the knife well with very little wiggle.With regular use and oiling this thing should last for several lifetimes..
reviewing a cold steel 52100 drop-forged survivalist knife..i think you would be hard-pressed to find a better large knife for survival,light,well-balanced,and razor sharp! handle inserts make the knife feel great in the hand..52100 steel takes and holds a great edge,yet is easy to sharpen..cold steel hits it out of the ball park again! It's what i carry when i go into the woods.
