I bought a new regulator and had the same issue threading it onto the stove. Pulled the stove apart and noticed that the the threaded brass pipe within the stove had bent so the regulator wasn't sitting square which made it impossible to thread on. Once the gas pipe was bent straight the regulator threaded back on again easily.

These regulators are the biggest letdown of the Coleman stove range. I wish they would change the design because the stoves are great! They can be fiddly to screw on and I’ve had a few fail over the years or they’ve lost the small nylon? seal in the stove attachment end. I always make sure I’ve got a spare one with me for my eventemp stove.

Yeah mate, cut the tube in halve, added a foot of gas hose and now it's a lot better to set up
