Whether riding throughout the UK on town or country roads or in the deserts and mountains of the USA the tyre outlasts all others my friends and I have tried. Their resistance to flats from thorns and other road litter is legiondary. Without exception for my riding buddies and I this tyre is head and shoulders the best ware resistant and puncture proof tyre we have used.

Bought these to fit a new bike that will take a 32 wide tire. Been riding Gator Hardshells for years in the 25 and 28 widths and no problems. In fact, cannot think of a puncture flat in the last several years. (Flats have been tube/valve stem failure related). Very durable bike tires and easy rolling.

The old black compound they use for this tire I could tell the rolling resistance was a lot less before I gotten even a half a block away, they ride, smooth, absorb shock and they roll really well, especially uphill. Im impressed. Ill look for these again. I hope they keep making them

This tire can suffer small cuts to the contact surface radius (2 cm) without a breach. Meticulous construction and highest quality rubber gives 3-6 years of wear. I road as a courrier in Washington DC daily x 50/mi/day min and made it through 2 summers. I replaced them as the kevlar belts began to show through the actual tread. They would have given me another 5-700 mi worth of wear I'm sure. A casual rider should expect to have these tires last 10 years easily.
Superb all round tyre. Great puncture protection, rolls well and got the black edition that gives my bike a great look. Double thumbs up for this Conti Gator Hardshell. 👍👍
These are my second pair of Hardshells. After trying several "puncture proof" tyres on poorly-sufaced and debris-strewn roads in Taiwan, these are just the best if the main priority is avoiding flats. You don't buy these for racing, obviously but for reliable long distance riding there is nothing close. Yes, they are heavy, these 32c folders measured 390g but they roll extremely well and with the thicker, stiffer sidewalls you can drop the pressure and enjoy the ride. I'm 90kg, I run 65psi back and 45 front for 15% drop without pinch flats but with sublime comfort on a titanium & steel audax bike, 12,000km a year. I don't ride wet but the grip on dry tarmac & concrete is very good. I can't feel any difference in rolling resistance to 28c Hardshells or Armadillos. ... MoreThese are my second pair of Hardshells. Not the easiest tyre to fit but you probably won't be taking them off much. I thought long and hard about tubeless with sealant as an alternative but with tyres of this quality, why go through all that. Highly recommended for worry-free recreational cycling & training.
Fitted these in a 32c to cope with the rough Suffolk roads. Lots of road debris & hedge clippings at the moment plus broken road surfaces and pot holes. So far after about 300 miles I’m very pleased. No punctures and feel really good, great grip on corners and smooth rolling. Not as fast as GP5000 but closer than you might expect. Highly recommend
I will never buy continental again! Bought these for commuting and punctured in the second week. Had bad luck with continental in the past but thought I would spend a little more and give these a go especially considering the hype. Almost slid off first time out on them aswell as it was slightly damp.I rate Vittoria far higher, not as much hyper marketing and better tyres.
First off, the continental Gator skin hardshell tires are much heavier than the tires I normally ride with during the warmer spring and summer months in Utah; however, the protection they deliver for the weight is excellent. Any off-road riding in Utah means running into thorns, stickers, and other stuff that likes to flatten bicycle tires. So far, nothing has penetrated these tires. To really test things out I took my road-bike off-road onto the canal trails which have always produced flats for me in the past and these tires let nothing penetrate. It's like my tires have a force-field.
They’re not the lightest tire, but I have yet to have a flat tire while riding over 25,000 miles in the last two years. I live on the Colorado front range where goat head thorns are common, and after spending way too much time repairing flat tires, I changed to these tires. My rims aren’t compatible with tubeless tires, so these have worked out great.
