One tyre was purchased out of necessity. The tyre it replaced had two nails through its tread, one of which was too close to the sidewall to make a repair possible. My first instinct was to replace like for like, and the hunt was on for one at the best price. Black Circles had what I was looking for and offered two options for the same make/model & size of tyre. I bought the one that was about £40 (if I remember correctly) cheaper. When I took the tyre to be fitted, I discovered the reason behind the difference in price. The more expensive one is a silent running version and has a layer of foam attached by sticky gunk to the inside of the outer tread bearing surface. This to help seal punctures. The tyre I bought did not have the foam lining and the tyre fitting ... MoreOne tyre was purchased out of necessity. The car continues to handle well and appears to be no noisier. The tyre shop checked the dB rating and said both variants were the same. I have a big dilemma to face when replacing the tyres in future. Foam lined or not?
