2020 KTM 690 Enduro-TKCs are very impressive, likely about 2k miles from the rear tire, 4k for the front

I'm new to the KTM 690 enduro R (1,500 miles on it total now, bought it used with 800 miles on the clock) and new to any off road riding and the use of knobby tires. I've been riding super sport bikes for decades (2006 CBR1000RR for the last 15 years), mostly canyon riding in Northern California - Mosquito Ridge Road in Forest Hill, and the like. I ride on Dunlop Q3s with the CBR and they are very sticky, predictable and confidence inspiring all the way to the edge of the tire. With these TKCs on the 690 enduro, I've become just as confident when carving canyon roads as I am on the CBR. I even leaned the bike to the point of dragging a boot toe on a slow tight switchback. No problem for the TKCs. No problem for the TKCs. I'm still trying to get comfortable on dirt, mostly fire roads, but so far the tires have not let me down. The only thing I can say with my limited time in the dirt is that the front inspires confidence when braking pretty hard downhill, setting up for switchback turns. No problem with drive out once through the turns. I haven't, and don't really plan to ride in the wet, so I can't comment on wet grip. I've been riding on sunny days with temps ranging from the high 30's to high 60's in January and February of this year. The fire roads have mostly been just slightly damp to dry and dusty. Lots of downed tree limbs and pine needles. No mud riding other than just a few puddles along the way. My riding has been 80% on paved roads. I don't have any experience with any other tire on the bike, but I'm certainly liking the TKC80s. It's looking like I'll get maybe 2000 miles out of the rear. The front shows much less wear, so perhaps I'll go through two rears for each front.

Amazing on/off road tire for BMW R1200 GSA

Of course, they are very confidence inspiring off-road. After 2500 miles the rear is looking pretty worn but the fronts probably have 1/2 their tread life left. I knew this would be the case as I had read all the reviews. Probably 2000-2100 of those miles have been on pavement, so no surprise. But again, the performance in twisties even when worn is remarkable.I am now going to experiment with the TKC70 Rocks as a replacement for the worn-out rear, and I will keep the TKC80 front until it wears out. When the front wears out later this year going into winter, I will switch to TKC70 front which is very good in wet. Then next season I will see if the TKC70 Rocks rear TKC70 front is an okay combo in dirt. My guess is it won't be since I have such a big heavy bike and it can use some knobs up front. If not, I will be back to TKC80 front. And if that doesn't work out, then I will try the new Dunlop Trailmax Mission! ;-)

Best tire for the bmw r1250gs

Man do they stick to the road and will let you carve corners then hop off road and beast the trail. They wear quick though after 1500 miles probably half worn down on the rear. If you keep the suspension stiff on the road you will chew through the rear in less than 3k. Slight wobble over 85 on the highway and loud af, but they look badass. This will probably be the only tire I will ever put back on the bmw unless I decide to do a cross country road trip. Even then I might just because they grip so ... MorePut on an r1250gs after taking the bmw rider academy course where they had these on the bikes and instructors swore by them. Fantastic offroad, surprisingly good on road.

I've had these tires up to about 25mph on loose dirt ATV trails, and up to about 80mph on the street. They've had a suprisingly good grip in both situations. They handled mud a few inches deep fine (although I did hit one patch about 6" deep which proved too much for them, not surprising anyone reading this) but they can like all off-road tires fill up with mud or loose debris if you aren't careful. Not a fault of the TKC's, just something to keep in mind when riding offroad. On the asphalt they've gripped nearly as well as my street tires did. It took some adjusting at first and at low speeds they are certainly a little more squirrely but it's nothing that I (as a fairly new rider) couldn't handle, so I doubt that many people will have an issue with it.Road ... MoreI've had these tires up to about 25mph on loose dirt ATV trails, and up to about 80mph on the street. Keep a good eye on them and make sure you don't lose chunks out on the road...these aren't the tires made for heavy handed throttle riders or people who love to gun it from a stop (although you can definitely still get and maintain speed with these on).Again, nature of the beast.Overall I love these tires and highly recommend them. Nearly every forum and review I read said these were fantastic, and I completely agree.Safe riding!

Great tire for a WR250R!

So let me start by saying I won a set of these at Touratech Rally 2016 compliments of Valentine Motorworks in Ballard, WA. So I am pretty unbiased in the sense I have no money invested.I have taken these tires across the Mojave and N Arizona, on the slab and state highways, up the UTBDR to Wyoming, then back to Oregon again. They performed admirably in all the conditions I encountered, with the minor exception of some wiggle and sway in sand. They were vibey on the highway of course, but on my 250 thumper they were only part of the chorus of vibes. In the corners on pavement they are superb in the dry, allowing me to rail my WR250 through sweepers and hairpins. The front tire is so much more stable than the IRC TR8 it replaced, it's unreal. In the corners on pavement they are superb in the dry, allowing me to rail my WR250 through sweepers and hairpins. The front tire is so much more stable than the IRC TR8 it replaced, it's unreal. The trend continues off road: they have lots of grip and handle predictably, with a nice playful flickability on my bike despite being so stable. They added a lot of confidence, the front tire especially. Even though the TR8 is almost half the price, I would never buy it over this tire. My previous rear is a D606, which earns its reputation as an excellent dual sport knobby. The TKC80 feels like its cousin with a similar hexagonal based tread pattern but only slightly more dense in placement. It pulls off no tricks here like other dual sport tires, it really is just a street tuned knobby. I'm no expert on compounds but the TKC feels advanced and is supposed to handle well in wet and muddy conditions, which I did not test but do not doubt.I rode ~2800 miles on the trip and the back tire is like 15-20%; it's squared off and definitely spins more off road now but still has a playful feel. The front is probably like 60% or better. I am satisfied with the mileage, after all it is still a knobby and has a lot of performance. Also, I was carrying a lot of weight on the rear the entire time, so it would be interesting to test their life time mostly unladen.I had read a lot about these tires and their wear life. I am satisfied with them on my 250 for medium trips but I would start to question them for anything over a 650 or for longer trips than 3500 miles. For a medium dual sport/ADV trip like what I took, especially on a smaller displacement like a 250cc, they are superb. For day to day dual sport they will be awesome, especially if you want to enjoy cornering on pavement as much as on dirt. If you want to just trail ride your bike no matter what the weather is doing, you will have more fun on something more aggressive than these, but they will still get the job done just fine.

I love my Shinkos cost with both tires mounted to one TKC80 just prurchased (depending on the model size etc). I cant speak to their longevity but I assume that both brands of tires will be about the same. I figured a season ish or two for mine maybe more since I am getting older and old injuries are back. As I said, I just wanted to give a credit where I see it for all the ADV guys/gals to the TKC 80 in this area of use while STILL loving my SHinkos!

I ride primary clay and sand roads. When it rains these roads turn into slosh, and not many tires can hold their own in it. I am so impressed with the way these tires perform in low traction areas that I will buy them any time I need tires for my joyriding on my klr650. I hit road washouts going faster than I should, and they have not popped yet which is very impressive. The rear tire cleans itself out effortlessly, and the front tire tracks straight and true no matter how deep the sand or wet the clay is. These tires are by far the king of it's class. Continental is known for making top tier tires, just take a look at 18 wheelers, race cars, luxury cars, and they did not skimp out with their motorcycle tire, either. I am thoroughly impressed, and am even going to get a set of Continentals for my sedan after I have seen how these hold up. If you are considering any off road tire for your dual sport, these should be at the top of your list. Whether im going 40mph offroad, 75 mph on highways, or 5 mph in mud or sand these tires do their job and do it well. They are worth every single penny.

Not confidence inspiring offroad
29 November 2023

This is much more a road tire than enduro. In any condition other than hardpack, the tires struggle for traction, and in mud, they quickly pack & become useless. In loam or loose soil & these tires slide all over requiring you to constantly catch the slides. And this was with much lower pressure (16 PSI vs the recommended 29 PSI).Since I ride mostly offroad, I will be switching to a more aggressive, dirt-oriented tire. These tires are OEM on my 2024 KTM 500 EXC-F. The Maxxi's that came on previous generations were much better offroad.

Perfect Adventure & BDR Tire
1 July 2024

My go-to tire. I've experimented with others when I couldn't find this one but I have always come back. Very confidence-inspiring on both pavement and dirt. Lower the PSI for dirt/gravel and it behaves like a dirt bike tire. Pump it back up and it rolls very predictably from side to side for great grip on paved twisted. Perfect BDR tire. The TKC80 rear gets knocked for longevity, but the front wears very well. Highly recommend. Mounted on KTM 890 Adventure R.

front lasts 13000km

I can understand that reviewers putting this as rear tires and ripping/roosting non stop on dirt on every corner would claim only 2000km, but THAT IS NOT normal use. I have used tkc80 front at least 7 times and it ALWAYS gave 11000-13000 km. In fact, it would give even more if I wasn't braking so hard and causing knobs to wear oddly. The more offroad I do, the less this tire wears, because the most wear is from braking on asphalt. As I'm getting wiser and calmer and I do less aggressive street riding, the mileage got better. Next one should reach 14000km I hope. Note to the DIY'ers that think of flipping the direction: DON'T, it WILL delaminate. I know that 1st hand experience. This front tire is designed to sustain braking forces in the indicated direction only (I ... MoreI can understand that reviewers putting this as rear tires and ripping/roosting non stop on dirt on every corner would claim only 2000km, but THAT IS NOT normal use.
