The Crankbrothers Mallet Boa MTB Shoes are designed for both race tracks and bike parks. They feature a ramped Match cleat box for easy pedal entry and effective mud shedding. The Race Zone setback on the cleat track allows for positioning the cleat further toward the heel, enhancing stability during descents. While these shoes are optimized for use with Crank Brothers Mallet Pedals, they are also compatible with any SPD/Clipless MTB Pedal.

I originally purchased the green version of these shoes without the BOA. I had them out of the box for a few minutes and realized the tongue pull wasn't stitched. It took over a week to contact customer service and a few emails for a response. I was offered a replacement or a multitool as compensation. But a few hours go by, and I receive a second email offering an upgrade to these shoes for my inconvenience. So, I jumped on that offer. However, after opening them, it is evident these are a return. Definitely worn outside. They fit, and I need bike shoes. It is what it is I suppose.

After picking up a new short travel bike to focus on more technical climbing, I wanted a light, but durable shoe to pair with my Time Speciale pedals. This shoe is nearly perfect. Great fit, lightweight (even at size 12), and comfortable. The BOA system is quick and convenient. There's even enough room for me to put in my own orthotics. Great job CB.

Fantastic shoe! Fit is a narrow to regular as far as width goes with zero hot spots even on hike-a-bikes. Sizing was spot on. Most comfortable Clipless shoe to date. Perfect balance of stiffness and pedal feel with excellent toe flex to walk or hike up technical sections. So far have held up to multiple seasons in Arizona’s South Mountain system and show no signs of breaking down.

I have gone back and forth with flats and clipless, but have been mostly flats for the last few years. I decided to try these because I have some Mallet E pedals that my old clipless shoes did not feel stable on. These shoes feel so secure and supported that I've gone back to riding clipless primarily.I have short but fairly wide feet, and these are incredibly comfortable. They also don't feel as bulky as other enduro style shoes. Although they don't seem too breathable, my feet don't get hot. The shoes feel very secure on both with the default spacers, that are included already installed with cleats on the shoes. Also, I usually take several rides to find a clear position I like, but the position they came set for surprisingly feels perfect. The biggest endorsement is that the fourth ride I did on them was an enduro race, and I had my best result in several years of racing.
Just got my new Mallet Trail BOA’s and love em. Couple rides in and they are so far the best cleat I’ve bet owned. Needed to swap insoles with some Superfeets which helped reduce the volume since these shoes are on the higher volume side and I have narrow feet. The BOA placement is perfect, compared to a two dial shoe which pinches especially the top of the foot by the ankle. I was concerned about the strap not being sufficient to secure my foot but it’s ideal. The neoprene around ankle is a great addition for keeping out the crud!
Love these shoes. Crankbros nailed the design of their shoe line. I bought these based on my pair of the stamp Boa for flats. The stamp and mallet shoes are comfortable and very supportive. Not a grippy as some others, but all you need. Love the additional strap to make you feel locked in. Hate that no other brand uses these for flat shoes. For the mallet clipless, the boa system adds additional support for your whole foot so your getting the most out of your strokes, the shoe has toe structure to keep you from slamming a rock, but not over done so the shoe is light and comfortable for long rides or all day park laps. The boa is out of the way and has stayed solid even after crashes or bumping against trees etc. Amazing shoe at a now reasonable price compared to the ... MoreLove these shoes. Love this shoe. Nice snug fit, light weight, great sole for hike a bike, and a really nice closure/boa combination. I have been riding the Mallet E BOA for nearly 2 years and they are my favs. After spending a week in Pisgah with these, I think they just jumped to the top of my list. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up, will post again in a year. Looking for a comfortable shoe that works really well in all situations, don't hesitate on this purchase. Good job CB!
These are really tight on me. My work shoes, trainers, walking boots etc are all size eight and fit fine. These are more like a seven. Wore them for a short while to see if they bedded in but they didn’t. Unfortunately I now can’t send them back as they show slight signs of wear. My fault at the end of the day as I should have ordered three sizes for comparison, but I got cocky.Reason for 2 star review is that the website clearly statesTrue to fit but this is just not the case
I got these shoes about three weeks ago and had to swap out the CB cleats for Shimano – no big deal. Their maiden voyage was on an iconic Utah trail called Thunder Mountain. There's a decent amount of climbing, and the shoes felt great throughout. I made a few adjustments to the cleat placement, but I didn’t experience any hotspots or numbness. The only downside is that the black color makes the shoes pretty warm in the summer sun.Overall, I love the Boa system and the strap, which really help dial in the fit.
The shoes are too narrow. Feet expand. I'm on my feet all day. Feet expand. I have older Pearl Izumi shoes with two straps and a ratchet buckle. They're not perfect but work. I would have to go from my 10.5 size to 11.5 Crank Brothers shoes. That's too much toe space. Get sizing right for the human foot or stick to pedals andbars.
