I went back and forth between a few different mtb shoe brands before deciding to give these a try, and they did not disappoint! I've ridden in them 5-10 times now and I'm really glad I got these. I believe the "E" version is a little stiffer than the standard version, which is what I was after. To stiffen them up even more you can add a carbon insole. These shoes are way more comfortable than the other shoes I own and make both riding and walking around a painless experience. I don't think I'll ever buy a pair of bike shoes without a boa, they make dialing in the fit so simple. For a true XC racer, you might want a slimmer and stiffer shoe, but I don't think crankbrothers was targeting that market with this shoe. I’ve been wearing these for about a week now, and they perform 1000% better than my Bontrager cleat style that were never comfortable and cost me $400. I use Funn pedals and these things stick to them like glue, and since I mostly commute with my Gravel Bike, I feel more steady on the wonderfully paved streets of Indianapolis. Bunny hopping feels more safe to do now. I tried wearing them all day around the office, and didn’t have any issues. I actually feel more stable standing around and I kept noticing my posture was better. I wore them to the gym and forgot it was leg day, but said FI and hit the squat rack. The solid sole with arch support took away some of the knee pain I’ve been experiencing. And any other pushing exercise simply felt better. They sort of feel like wearing cowboy boots, and I don’t think I could do physical type labor 12 hours straight in them, but casually they are great to walk around in. I swapped for SPD cleats and only ever hear noise when I’m walking on gravel or some funky sidewalks. The build quality is top notch and there is a ton of padding on the inside. The forefront of the shoe seems to be made or covered with a rubber-like material, that doesn’t seem to allow water to go through it. I haven’t tested them in the rain yet, but they appear resistant to very light rain. I mentioned the sole was stiff, but CB managed to keep it nice and comfy to stand on. The first few days my toes ached a little, since in a perfect world I’d have ordered a 14.5, but I held out in hopes they’d stretch out, and they finally did, and the pain went away. Great shoe!I did initially have some issues with customer support, but after a supervisor reached out, they went above and beyond to take care of my issue.10/10

Finally picked up a pair in Ishpeming, MI just before the Marji Gesick last year. The fit is comfortable and snug. They mate perfectly to my Mallet E LS pedals, of course! The BOA closure and velcro snap keep things tight and they work just as well when you are hike a biking through some serious terrain. Now that I have several hundred miles on them, they are the only pair of shoes in my bag for both MTB and gravel. They are extremely comfortable and they just work!

I've been very impressed with the overall durability of this shoe. I'm going on a year since I bought them, with a full park season in the books as well as local riding since last summer... and they look like they will make it through this summer as well. The uppers are sneaker comfortable but supportive and have some give to them without feeling too stiff. Very comfortably and easy to walk in off the bike. The combination of the boa and the ankle strap works very well...very easy to adjust on the fly. The soles are the perfect stiffness (at least to me) they are stiffer that the Boa 2FO's but not as stiff as the Five Ten Kestrals. Its stating the obvious, but if you ride crankbrothers pedals they are a great fit...my 2fo soles were pretty much trashed in the first ... MoreI've been very impressed with the overall durability of this shoe. Its stating the obvious, but if you ride crankbrothers pedals they are a great fit...my 2fo soles were pretty much trashed in the first month of riding by the pins on the Mallet E's...the cleat cutouts are well thought out, the adjustability for pedal contact is top notch, and the sole compound is on the money! The over feel of the pedal/shoe connection is greatly improved. My only small gripe is that the upper material is great at picking up and holding every spec of dirt and dust possible. I would buy them in dirt brown instead if it was an option....lol. Overall these have been a great pair of riding shoes and have exceeded my expectations.
I'll give this an average rating for now and may update it in the spring when they'll get a real test. They are super cute. I mean, it's a men's shoe but it's cute so ladies buy it. (Guys don't be put off. Only women will see it as cute shoe.) I'm a size 10 women's and got the 8 men's. Fits well. Has this super cool twist to tighten mechanism that is really brilliant. They are replacing my traditional road bike clip shoes that were velcro. This tightening mechanism is way better. Now it came with the wrong clips for me (didn't see an option) so I have to get clips that work on my bike, which I haven't gotten yet. And it's sad because the clips that came with it are really petty too. I got them for a no clip E-bike ride I'm doing next week in Napa! And it's sad because the clips that came with it are really petty too. I got them for a no clip E-bike ride I'm doing next week in Napa! So I pulled the clips and taped the hole and will use as a hard soled bike shoe. It promises to walk well so I took them for a bit of a walk and they seemed pretty good. So hoping perfect for this bike and hike around ride I'm doing. Now, I'm suspecting they're mountain biking clips/shoes but I'm gonna give them a try on my road bike come spring. There's a lot of slide for the clips so I'm betting when I get the right type it'll work fine. I think I might just love them.
I have owned these shoes for about a year. And I can say I love them. Them BOA gets them so snug on your foot that your feet remain secured and they create a very solid platform with their stiff soles. I have used them in the rain and in the heat and they perform to exactly as I would want them to.Durability 5/5 I don’t even have a scratch on them after a year of use, I do clean them after every rideWalkability 3/5 The only bit of improvement I would recommend is getting the cleat up higher in the shoe. Not sure if it is possible but I don’t enjoy the clack of the metal against rocks and concrete while walking. I would much prefer the rubber to hit the ground instead of the cleat. And in case someone is wondering, yes I took out the shim and tried that way but then clipping in was much more difficult. As for comfortability they do walk well, no complaints there. Plenty of grip.Ease of clipping 5/5 very easy to clip in and clip out. I use Crankbrothers pedals and cleats.Size 4/5 I found the sizing to be small while I know others found them to be accurate. I wear 11 in Columbia and pretty much everything else and I wish I would have gone up a 1/2 size.Overall I am going to but some of their flats like this as well, just up a half size. I highly recommend and the cleat touching the ground isn’t a problem on dirt trails.
These are really tight on me. My work shoes, trainers, walking boots etc are all size eight and fit fine. These are more like a seven. Wore them for a short while to see if they bedded in but they didn’t. Unfortunately I now can’t send them back as they show slight signs of wear. My fault at the end of the day as I should have ordered three sizes for comparison, but I got cocky.Reason for 2 star review is that the website clearly statesTrue to fit but this is just not the case
The Mallet Enduro with the BOA is a fantastic pair of clip-ins. Not only are they the best clip-ins the customer service was exceptional. I realized 5 days before my trip to Moab that my original purchase was in men's sizes, not women's. I contacted Evan, and he was able to expedite the order without an additional fee, and thankfully they arrived a couple of hours before my flight. While riding trails on the Whole Enchilada, these shoes were a lifesaver, literally. They easily clip in and out, durable, waterproof (not sure if that's tested, but I walked through the water, and my feet remained dry), and are the most comfortable clip-ins I've ever worn. With a velcro top strap, the BOA makes this shoe easy to take on and off. I can't recommend these shoes enough.
The shoes are a great fit and true to size. I love the ease of use with the Boa system for getting the perfect fit. The quality of the shoe seems excellent in the first two weeks of riding, both on and off the bike. They paired well with my Mallet E pedals, and the cleats that came with the shoes were a great addition.
Just terrible. Terrible shoe. One saving grace--the fit. It's a small form factor, low profile and close to the foot. Fits comfortably, and correctly, true to size and with enough sizes (Even at the smaller end of the spectrum )to accomidate all ridersThat's where the good stops. I can't belive this shoe has so many good ratings--I know multiple owners (this is the only shoe of this style available in our market)--we all have the same issues. The uppers just disintigrate. cuts after the first ride, and now after 10, there are multiple holes, tears, cuts, slits. It's like those reuable shopping bags that just colapse to dust after a year in the cubbord. My boas have held up fine--and I know they are replaceable--my friends have not. Trash shoe.
