Nice terra cotta color clay for kids crafts

This terra cotta colored clay does stain so put down protective covering before starting. My family used this to make a variety of projects form simple pinch pots to using cookie cutters to make ornaments and garlands. The clay is easy to work with. Add some water if it is too dry or to smooth out edges. Takes 2-3 days to dry depending on thickness of the finished piece.

One of our favorite air dry clays to work with. Easy to blend, spread, and manipulate. I LOVE the terra cotta color (we have only worked with the white clay in the past). This tub of clay goes a long way, as you can see from the picture, and there are so many options for creative play-we are building an Easter forest scene for a display. There is a mild odor, somewhat less than the white clay by this brand, and we worked on cardboard while wearing gloves, which made cleanup super quick and easy.First, we made tree stumps-we used old clay cups, worked clay around them, added striations using plastic clay tools, and left them to air dry. We made a clay Easter basket and will try to make eggs next by working a thin layer of clay around a slightly blown up balloon. ... MoreOne of our favorite air dry clays to work with. I am yet again, so pleased with this air dry clay and cannot wait to work on more pieces for our display!

We received this clay and my 1st reaction was the color. I was worried about it staining. It turned the countertop a burnt orange color, my child's hands turned orange and she got some on her shirt. However to my surprise all came clean. She washed her hands once, the counter wiped down once and washed her shirt with no stain remover and it came right out. Now for the clay, it is soft enough to work with easily and shapes nicely. The directions state it air drys and hardens in 2 to 3 days. However it was nice and dry and hardened in 24 hours. It paints nicely as well. I am very impressed with this no fuss clay and would definitely reccomend.

[Rewarded Review] It's definitely red clay.

I have kids who like to create (who doesn't?!). We have a lot of different kinds of clay in the house, several brands and colors. We wanted to try this tub, as it's a good deal and you get a big bucket of it. A few things to note: Add water to the clay you're using. It needs the moisture, otherwise it's a little too dry out of the bucket, and will immediately crack upon use. We forgot to do this the first time and our "cupcake" one of my kids made cracked everywhere and even uncoiled itself while drying? I'm not sure why that happened, we haven't had that happen before! I'm guessing it needed more moisture during coiling. Also, this is a red based clay... and it stains. Everything. Hands, clothes, even my table. I'm still working on getting the red spots off. Next time we will cover the table with wax paper or something! But honestly, for the price, you can't beat it. It dries pretty fast, hard, although a bit brittle. You can paint it after, too. I wouldn't suggest it for small detail work, but more for thicker larger pieces. Kids will have fun with it either way!

[Rewarded Review] No cracking!
22 January 2021

We've decided to make different things for my daughter's fairy garden. We did a test mushroom, and it's dried, and had one coat of crayola paint, we couldn't find the acrylic but we used crayola washable paint and it looks good. There's been no messes, and our hands were easy to wash. This clay is pliable, and dries easily enough. I am impressed that there hasn't been any cracks. We've let it dry 72 hours before applying the first coat of paint, it's already dried as well. I am looking forward to seeing the other tiny figures this clay will make. I will be buying more to make other creations, maybe even beads

[Rewarded Review] Perfect for children learning clay crafts
24 July 2021

I first used the white air dry clay and this terra-cotta clay is just as nice. We made pots with the white clay but now we're working on our clay pots with this color. This is perfect for homemade plant pots . Depending on how thick you make your clay it can take up to 3 days o dry. Smaller pots dry within 2 days. You can add and will need to add water to smooth out and soften the clay. Overall Crayola has another win, affordable easy air dry clay perfect for home and school crafts!

[Rewarded Review] So much fun!

This terracotta clay is very fun and exciting for any family. My children love it and I love keeping their creations. It comes with 2.5 lb which is a ton to work with. It did stain their hands and I am one of those mothers who gets frustrated with a mess, I don't like that part very much, but it's only one day and one mess and the memories are so much more! I loved seeing what they would create and they had so much fun doing it. It's a very good price for such a large amount to work with. It dried nicely, just a bit brittle, but overall I was impressed. My son is only five so he made a rock which was nice because then he also was able to paint it afterwards. It's still a work in progress. I suggest putting down paper for your work area if you don't want any mess and definitely don't do it near carpet. I enjoy doing it outside in the shade with some old blankets under us. It's a fun time for any child and family.

[Rewarded Review] Super fun
19 January 2021

My kids and I love to make crafts. Clay is one of our favorite mediums. This terra-cotta clay does transfer pigment. I would suggest laying something down if you are working in a space that stains easily. The stains haven't stayed after. I just prefer easy clean up. We put down cardboard and I let them create to their hearts content. The clay itself is very moldable and easy to work. I love that it can be left to air dry. This container comes with a pretty generous amount of clay. Enough for several small projects. If you don't use gloves be prepared to scrub a little. It's not a deal breaker. Otherwise, I say dig in and have lots of fun being creative.

This little bucket of goodness arrived at my house and I admit I was excited. My 5year old granddaughter was confused about what it actually was. She thought is was regular dough that you play with and then I explained she could make a masterpiece for her Mommy or Daddy for Valentines Day and paint it and she was stoked- maybe too stoked. We started with rolling snakes and balls for using for flat bottom jars. Easy Peasy . We played with this clay for about 2 hours and then left the creations to dry. Things to understand: this clay discolors your hands and probably clothing but washes off with warm water and soap- I do all of our craft at a big glass table and put wax paper under the clay so we could move the art to dry with little damage- we also have aprons just ... MoreThis little bucket of goodness arrived at my house and I admit I was excited. I would highly recommend these precautions with your little artist too. Just be aware, this clay takes serial days to dry and can be painted after and then dried again for several days for a beautiful lasting project. This is a Win Win for Mimi ! I will buy again and again.

[Rewarded Review] Works well for teaching
9 February 2024

I really like this air dry clay. I use it for teaching. This was my first time buying the terra-cotta style. It dries nicely, but you need to make sure that the pieces are securely attached and large enough. Any small bits will fall off and Especially upset young sculptors.
