Crayons Model Magic

We have bought several colors of Crayola Model Magic to help our 7 year old grandkids be creative. The kids have enjoyed their creations. They have also been exploring the mixing of colors to create a new color. They have made animals and their babies, a caterpillar crawling in the grass, Minecraft characters to name a few. The kids display them proudly in their bedrooms as they harden. The clay has provided a lot of fun and creativity.

I was very disappointed in this clay. When I got the clay out of the packaging, it was hard, stiff, and almost completely dried up. I had to add a lot of water to get it back to a normal consistency. Once I added enough water, it was a fairly good clay. I have purchased model magic from other stores and it has been a lot better than this.

I used it to make lightweight donuts for tree ornaments. It is porous but nothing that modge podge couldn't fix. I used white dough, painted with acrylics, sealed with M.P. and then frosted from there. It's perfect for a lightweight ornament. I will say it's better to paint after than to tint with washable marker. My macaroons bled even after sealed with M.P.. Going to try to tint it with alcohol inks next time to see if that stops the bleeding.

Horrible

Please do not buy this for projects. Last weekend we bought 3 packages of brown and 2 packages of cream for my son to make a model of Andy Griffith for a school project that is due the end of the month. He made it last weekend. We went to check on it today and found that it had cracked and is falling off. We are now out of $25 and he has to redo his project.

It never dried
16 January 2019

I bought this before Christmas to replace the base of a Santa figurine that had accidentally broken. I simply took it out of the package, and shaped it very simply to look like the Santa was standing in snow. Seemed simple enough, right? I followed the directions on the package (which seemed pretty basic), but the clay never fully dried. I gave it over 72 hours (just taking into account the longest possible drying time) and it still hadn't dried fully. Well, Santa was put away yesterday, and the base still wasn't fully hardened like it was supposed to be. I'm sure this product might be great for very small crafts. But I wouldn't suggest using it for a modeling clay as the package implies.

Love Crayola
21 November 2022

As always, crayola continues to exceed my expectations of excellence. My kids are a little older, in middle school now, and while they have pretty much stopped using the markers and crayons of old, we still choose crayola for their school projects. The Modeling Clay was no exception to the high Crayola quality we have come to expect. The color variety was perfect and the moldability was excellent. It dried well and stayed in shape beautifully.

Model Magic Review

My 4 grandchildren love this modeling clay. I bought several colors. They share and it sparks their imagination. They make the most wonderful creations. We’ve spent many fun hours with this activity. We’re so proud of their art creations and so are they. I just bought some for my friend’s granddaughter who is visiting her, and she spent many fun hours playing with it.

Model Magic is Great for Making Butter Slime
11 June 2019

So if you are going to try and make butter slime with model magic, you probably want to attempt these methods/recipes: just glue and light activator then knead clay in afterwards, with glue-all add lotion into glue and clay before mixing together, or just use lotion and model magic together! I suggest not even using glue, just add lotion. It is thicker and more butter-like. I love model magic though and have been using it for slime for years!

Product is 'Meh'
29 March 2017

So... I purchased this to use for making grave pressings at the witch memorial in Salem, Ma (totally normal, I swear) - I normally would have used a different clay but I needed something that wouldn't get all over my hands. This stuff, while fun to play with and I can definitely see its appeal to children/parents, is not for use for any true crafting. it takes forever to fully cure (like 5 days) and it's still very porous and malleable, with no weight to it. Again, a child would definitely have a blast with this, just not really for grown ups trying to do weird projects in graveyards. :)

works great for hand and footprint impressions!
27 March 2017

I use this product to make hand and footprint impressions, mostly for gifts for parents of newborns. It works great. I roll it out with a glass. I do one at a time. For hands, I find a glass that has a mouth wide enough to go around the print and press. For feet, I use a knife to cut it out in a rectangular shape. I do this on parchment paper so I can peel each one off and set it on a drying rack to dry. I create shadow boxes for gifts and embellish with scrapbooking supplies, usually adding their name with stickers and a newborn photo. It is a great gift, and is always cherished.
