This was the first machine I got. At first it was a little intimidating, but the more I used it the more I learned how to do different things with it. I have made so many things for myself and for other people. It’s easy to set up on the app and cuts out really well. I have just upgraded to an explore 3 but am keeping this for smaller projects. I love how much you can do with it and always get compliments on the products I’ve made. Would definitely recommend for someone who’s starting out on their Cricut journey.

I love crafting, and the circuit Joy is terrific for beginners; it is great for making cards labels and personalizing just about anything you want. I had been using my Circut Joy for about one year before I upgraded to a Circut Maker and enjoyed how easy it was to learn how to make custom cards and to design personalized items. It did require some getting used to using Design Space as I had never used it before, only the craft room app that Cricut previously had; after watching some Youtube videos, it was not difficult to learn. Setting up the Circut Joy was easier than I thought it would be and only took me 10 minutes to get it up and to run! It comes with samples of silver vinyl that you use to practice cutting without using a mat, and they give you six designs to choose from. They also give you a sample of blue cardstock to use as well. The machine is only about 8" wide and 4 1/2" tall, so it is no problem to find a place for you to set it up for use! You could even pack it away in a drawer when not in use, but I keep mine out on my desk. I've not had issues with ripping the paper or poor cutting except for one item I tried to cut out, which was a very intricate circular design at 4" with a lot of swirly bits. It did not cut out well, but I was not surprised, given its intricacy. I have also used the Joy pens in the machine, and they have worked well. I have done a couple of cuts where the machine draws a shape and then cuts it out which was neat. I have also used the card mat to address several envelopes and that has been a lot of fun. One nice thing about when you take out the blade to use a pen is that you can place the blade housing on the upper right side of the front of the machine and it will hold it up and out of the way while it writes or draws. My only big issue with the Joy is the bluetooth connectivity. If I turn on my computer and use the Joy soon afterwards, it is not a problem; if my computer is on for a few hours, or my computer goes into sleep mode, and then I turn it back on! Overall, I highly recommend to all beginners of Circut who love crafting!
I’ve been using this product now for a few months. It’s a great first cutting machine. It can be a bit tricky to get your head around the app you use with the machine, but it gets easier with use and practice. It is hindered by the limited sized items you can make and the materials you can cut. But if you’re after a more affordable machine and only intend to make smaller projects, then it can’t be faulted. The size makes it portable as well, which is great for crafting on the go

The machine is only about 8" wide and 4 1/2" tall so it is no problem to find a place for it to sit. You could even pack it away in a drawer when not in use but I keep mine out on my desk.So far I have mostly used some insert cards to cut out several card designs and used core'dinations paper to cut out various shapes for use on cards and it has worked nicely. I've not had issues with any ripping of the paper or poor cutting except for one item I tried to cut out which was a very intricate circular design at 4" with a lot of swirly bits. But if my computer is on for a few hours, or my computer goes into sleep mode and then I turn it back on, I've had issues with Design Space not recognizing my Joy when I try to make a project. I've had to restart my computer to get it to work which is not a huge deal but it is annoying. My favorite things about it are that it is very easy to work with and so light and portable. You can take the machine to wherever you want to craft. It is also nice to be able to quickly make a card with the card mat. And it is cool to be able to make long cuts for decorating along walls, wooden panels, etc. The only limit is that you can't create something that is more than 4.5" tall but since I mostly use it for making cards and personalized items I don't mind that.
This is NOT a precision device (cutter) and they are deceiving customers. At the best this is a fun device for home use and casual projects. It is not for anything profesional. It is only relatively ok for large shapes without many details. Try to cut 16 point font and you will regret immediately. It is not precise at all and the Bluetooth connection is a major pain in the neck (constantly issues). Their software is absolutely horrible (imagine graphic design software without align options and “snap”, plus everything you do in it comes with a few seconds delay). On a positive side, the device itself is built really well. Beautifuly designed. I expected a lot after watching reviews on YouTube and all over the internet, but now I realized that’s just a massive budget ... MoreThis is NOT a precision device (cutter) and they are deceiving customers. Really liking the cricut joy so far. I have only played around with it, have not attempted any proper projects yet until I get the hang of weeding and transferring vinyl but for the most part it has been easy to pick up the software. The set up was a bit of a pain, it does not work with the enlarged text accessibility feature on Windows so keep that in mind if you get stuck on one of the steps. The test project tutorials are lacking, they tell you do things like 'attach' and 'weld' but don't explain why you need to do it. Needs dark mode.
At first I wasn’t sure if I was being was frivolous buying the Joy when I already have a Maker, but it turns out to be one of the best purchases I’ve made. The portability to take it to events with me or to pull it out of its case for a quick, small project make it well worthwhile. It can be used with or without a mat, for long banner projects, cutting vinyl or HTV, and even has the drawing function of the Maker (different size pens are required for the Joy but well worth it). With the card making mat it has been fun making impromptu personalized cards for friends and family. In addition to using it with my computer it connects with my phone and tablet, making it easy to use for personalized decals at craft shows and school events. The Joy doesn’t have some of the advanced features of the Maker, but it is a perfect solution for people who need a portable device or for those who don’t do elaborate large-scale projects. Since seeing what I’ve done with mine, both of my adult daughters and a male family friend have bought Joys of 6 own!
Save your money don’t buy it. After you received You still need pay the money for the app member. If you don’t want be member you can’t use many functions, and you still need to spend money to purchase digital materials. All my materials are purchased from Cricut products, even its tools. But it still messes everything up. It jams and doesn't take care to carve tiny places. When its work is finished, you still have to find your carving knife and carve again. It can only engrave the thickness of the paper, and sometimes it gets stuck there. Makes me think this is a damaged product. I would try to return it, but it really took me a lot of time and made me have to choose again. There are also a bunch of cricut materials that make me regret it.
