I had the product for about a month. The sticky mat isn't sticky enough, my designs would get pushed off the mat and it would continue cutting in the wrong spot- wasted lots of material and had to buy a new stickier mat. After about a month of use it just stopped working- it wouldn't turn on. It's been another month since it broke and I still don't have a working machine. I tried the troubleshooting steps they wanted me to do, they sent me a new cable, nothing has worked. The process to try and get a replacement has been slow and I use this for my business. Missed out on tons of revenue for my company.

I am an avid crafter who used to hand-cut items and I wanted to add vinyl cutting to my repetoire. My sister is a teacher who has a more robust Cricut, but I thought getting one like hers for my first machine was a bit extreme and intimidating, so I settled on the Cricut Joy Xtra, which was coming out the week I decided to get a machine (felt like a good sign!). Anyway, I was SOOOO excited to get started. Set up was easy, but immediately came across issues with the usability of the Design Space as soon as I came up with a project (I'm used to Photoshop, Illustrator and Design Space is almost too simple and yet, way more complicated than those???!?!). Then the problems just kept adding up. Then the problems just kept adding up. Like, every single time I went to try and design something or cut a project, something was wrong. Cutting was off, calibration was a huge pain (moved my machine to a better lit area and that helped), I HATED using design space on my iPad (the lagging drives me crazy), but then the Bluetooth connection was AWFUL when I tried using my Mac laptop. It kept disconnecting while I was in the middle of trying to set up a cut. So far, my machine only has a consistent connection when I use the iPad, so I've accepted the idea that I have to design on the laptop, then use the iPad to cut. When I brought all this up, my sister said she's never had these issues with her Cricut. I'm just thinking that what I want (speed, accuracy, usability, capabilities, reliabilities) is more aligned with one of the "nicer" Cricut machines. I need something I can connect my laptop to physically first and foremost, and I need something that isn't new so all the glitches are already worked out. Anywho, I'm going to keep trying and figuring out what works best, but so far it's been a let-down.

For something named Joy, all it does is make me depressed. I have had the absolute worst experience with this product and Cricut. As I write this I have been on hold for 20 minutes with customer support FOR THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW trying to get my money back. I seriously do not recommend you buy anything from Cricut. It arrived broken and unable to use. When I emailed the company asking for help, they continually disregarded my emails until I called. Once I did I was given the run around as they tried frantically to avoid replacing my product. They even tried to have me use the 3 year extended warranty I purchased even though I haven't even owned it for more than 2 months. I can't get the machine to work. I can't get Cricut to help. The Cricut never calibrates no matter how many times you try. It even chewed the corners of the mat I purchased with the Cricut. I called twice and asked for assistance after going through a half a pack of copy paper calibrating; after the first agent I spoke to stated it takes fifteen or more tries before it calibrates. I finally called back agin after attempting to create crafts once it seemed the machine was on track. Unfortunately, the machine was not and I would just end up losing a pack of heat transfer paper. After days of frustration with the machine I called again and spoke with another representative. This representative informed me "the machine is new, just came out in the past month and it has software issues. This representative informed me "the machine is new, just came out in the past month and it has software issues. The machine itself is not damaged it just has a software malfunction." I was upset beyond belief and couldn't image they would continue selling a machine with software issues that destroys its mat and can't calibrate correctly. It's safe to say I am not at all happy with this purchase. I intend to return the item if the issue is not fixed with the next week.
Do not buy the joy xtra. I was so excited about getting this. I immediately set it up and did a test run with it and it worked perfect. The next day I went to make more very basic vinyl decals and have had constant connection issues where the machine is bluetooth connected but won't connect when I try to make anything. What an expensive piece of garbage. I should have just stuck with a USB connected one - this one does not even have that option. So I'm stuck with one that simply does not work. Very dissappointed.
Was happy to see this machine cuts well however it was advertised to cut up to 8.5 x 11 projects, however it wasn’t clear to me during the buying process that print and cut is fairly small on this machine. I would have returned to get the larger size but I had opened the package and this voids a return. Nevertheless, I like the machine and am working with it and I had gotten it due to the nice reviews. I wanted to put this review out there to ensure that anyone thinking about buying this - make sure the projects you intend to make are doable! Another thing I quite disliked is the money-hungry ads I get every time I open the Cricut Design space for me to get a subscription. It’s something that I dislike as a buyer because this constant nagging is what puts me off in ... MoreWas happy to see this machine cuts well however it was advertised to cut up to 8.5 x 11 projects, however it wasn’t clear to me during the buying process that print and cut is fairly small on this machine. Overall, I think the machine is great but the advertising needs help, not only for the machine but also the subscription service.
I really wanted to like this product, but it has issues. It's tricky to get the mat to load correctly and it bends the corners that you have to trim off. I wanted to do alot of stickers on the Xtra but it doesn't cut them good. I have calibrated the machine twice, but it still cuts off. I have tried using the Joy smart paper sticker cardstock on a mat using the Xtra, but it doesn't cut it good at all. I put the pressure to more but that didn't help. When I try to remove the sticker from the sheet, it tears below the sticker and the sticky part of the sticker is left on the mat. I have wasted too much sticker paper to try much more. When I switch to my Maker 3, I don't have the problem. It's frustrating that I can't use the Xtra for what I bought it for, stickers. Cute little machine and can do a lot of things, however, cutting "smart" materials without a mat is not one of them. I was so excited to go matless with this little guy and bought so many smart rolls of vinyl to go with it. Sadly, every project I've tried to do with the smart materials has gone in the trash. It starts off great but then the material slides around and screws up the cut. Now, for the mats... this machine is a mat destroyer. I don't like the way it pulls the mat in. It's usually uneven the first couple of tries and so I have to unload and load again. Every. Single. Time. I don't think I've successfully loaded a mat on the first try more than 5 times since I got the machine in December. This little powerhouse is AMAZING. I am astounded at the precision cutting of the Xtra, no matter how intricate of a design I throw its way. I would always take my Joy with me to crafting classes and events (even vacation) because the Maker 3 was just too cumbersome to disconnect and load/unload. This beauty is half the size of the Maker 3 and only weighs 6 pounds! I also appreciate the size of the materials and mats; another advantage of the smaller machine. You can literally fit everything you need in one banker box. I've made stickers, iron-on, vinyl decals, printable vinyl, labels, and printable iron-on for dark fabric - all without issue. And, with the larger mat and card mat I can make ANY size card. The only drawback I've noticed so far is that you can't ... MoreThis little powerhouse is AMAZING. This is the PERFECT machine for any beginner because of the size, ease of use, vast array of materials available, and portability. This will be my recommended machine to anyone embarking on a Cricut adventure going forward. Well done Cricut!
got it for an early Christmas present. No instruction manual, just a quick guide. takes me forever, and my husbands help, every time i want to make some thing. it is all bluetooth and no buttons. Then I usually give up because I get frustrated because it doesn't do what I thought I told it to do. Can't even make a simple card. The design studio is not simple or user friendly to me. I feel like you need a degree in designing software to use it. Then if you want the cute stuff you have to buy it or subscribe to access. I feel like the only way I will ever be able to use this machine and software is to go to a college class. Haven't found any videos that help me, and Cricut videos go so fast I cant keep up.
