The Friedland D534 Lightspot is a black bell push. When the button is pushed the area around the button becomes illuminated. The D534 can only be operated by a transformer (8v/2A).

Illuminated push button for hard wired doorbell system. These have been around for well over 50 years and look exactly the same as they always have although they are a little different internally. The old ones had removable globes which usually lasted a few months but these have the lighting (LED?) as part of the actual switch. A little fiddly to install as the connection points are very small but they work well. It should be noted that if you chose a battery powered system then you shouldn't use these - presumably the lighting would drain the batteries quite quickly, but a non illuminated version is available too. They are actually manufactured by Honeywell and branded as such. Honeywell took over Friendland some time ago.

The bell push has an LED globe, which should last considerably longer than the old bell push with an incandescent globe. The spring for the button return feels strong. The foot print matched the previous Friedland bell push. Wiring was straight forward.

Just like the original, except they now appear to have LED illumination, so the light should last a lot longer. Also got a new feature where the bell push itself pops out of the bit you screw to the wall, making it easier to wire up. The black cover holds it in place.

My original Friedland bell pushes were white and clearly not uv proof and had yellowed badly over time on a south facing elevation. I had just fitted a new entrance door and frame and the bell pushes looked extremely shabby against the bright white door frame. Solution - fit black bell pushes. The job now looks great. Friedland could improve their products greatly by using uv stabilised materials and get 5 stars instead of 4.
This was the first time I made a purchase from Edwards bros. All I can say is that when I placed the order I just didn't expect it to be delivered so quickly. Very satisfied with the whole experience. Would definitely use Edwards bros again. I highly recommend them.
Fixing hole spacing differed from the 20 year old brass friedland illuminated bell push it was replacing, though overall size & appearance the same. Don't know why they don't use an led rather than a bulb these days even if transformer feed voltage is AC -that's what a diode does. Maybe too much money to be made in replacement bulbs?
Wonderful / / Marvellous // - actually got the original high quality brass push mechanism ( with replacement torpedo bulb) as made in stockport in the 8o's - Much better than the current 'replacement' type with its pathetic bit of a push mechanism which corrodes.
I bought this because my old non illuminated one failed after many years, but also because we live down a road which is lacking in street lights and an illuminated one was an obvious choice. As I understand the sellers information it is only suitable if you have a mains/transformer power supply and is not suitable for battery operated door bells. The light is given off in a ring shape around the push button and although it appears quit dim it is more than suitable to see at a distance after dark. The seller claims it is made by Friedland - the packet says it is produced by Novar for a uk company in Warwickshire. Having said that ,it's well made and a direct replacement for Friedland push buttons and i'm shure it has no associations with china. The price made this a bargain ,being half the price that some sellers were asking for a non illuminated one. For price and quality it was a very good buy.
Traditional door bell upgrade with an illuminated button could not have been easier and much better than these new wireless units. This door bell with long brass tubes has been working for 53 years and still going, thanks for a great product and continued support. kind regards TJ
Very well designed.Easy to install and felt more robust than the average makes that are cheaper but flimsy. P.S. I am a retired Approved Electrician.Remember that a suitable electrical transformer is required for this product to work with the neon highlighter around the actual push button.
