Daiwa J-Braid Grand X8 Braided Line 1500 M Multicolor 0.280 mm

The J-Braid Grand x8 braid takes the advantages of the J-Braid x8 even further. Manufactured at Japon, this braid uses Izanas fibers for the highest grade of resistance: 4 times more resistant to abrasion! On this version, the braid's winding process tightens its strands even further. As a result, the J-Braid Grand x8 has a perfectly round shape optimizing its aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. As a result, casting distances are improved and the better hold of the braid in fishing action ensures greater sensitivity and responsiveness. Available in chartreuse, grey, multicolour and azure blue.

15# J-Braid Grand light gray

Caught a fair share of wallys & wipers 10#+ & cats twice that size with zero breakoff during fish fights. Thinner & smoother than my usual go to Sufix 832 15# yellow so longer casting with the same weight jigs. Pleasantly surprised that I got zero wind knots. Light gray color was indeed decently high vis.

I like J braid for its softness and smooth casting. I have the 6 lb on three of my ultralights. It casts amazingly far and is very sensitive. I have however had a difficult time with wind knots and breakage. I have fished extensively for 58 years and am not new to taking care to keep line tight on a spinning reel to prevent birds nests. It has not been a problem with the 8 lb it 10 lb but the 6 has proven to give me problems be it green, gray, or fluorescent green. It may be too soft.

The Daiwa Jbraid is easily the best braid on the market. It is silky smooth compared to its competitors and this means a better casting distance. The silkiness and thin diameter means you will feel more bites and catch more fish! highly recommend using all JBraid from 6lb to 80lb. 6-10lb is a great range because 10lb is still thin enough to fish for Bream and Whiting.

Breaks easily
4 April 2024

I bought a 3000 yd bulk spool of the 40 lb test of the J-Braid x8 Grand and it broke when I tightened a fg knot. The knot held and the braid broke in the middle of the line. I checked it with a fish scale and it broke at around 25 lbs. I then tied the braid to a 25 lb dumbell and it would break before the entire weight came off of the ground. Really disappointed with how bad this line is. Sent an email to Daiwa asking them about it but they never responded.

Daiwa J Braid GRAND_8U 6LB-300yds Island Blue
28 February 2023

After many years of using various braids, I found the Daiwa J Braid Grand has excellent knot strength and holds FG knots on light leaders without issues. After 10 plus fish, still no need to re-tie. A plus compared to some other braids I have used. This 6lb grand appears to have strength beyond the advertised rate and wind knots are a thing of the past. I now use 300 yards of braid rather than 150 yards with a backing line. I found the braid can catch on the knot connecting to the backing line even when the knot is not visible. I fish several times a month, so they get a good test.

Diawa J-Braid vs. Sufix 832
7 September 2021

After months of trying different lines, I settled on Sufix 832, deeming that it was the best. Then I tried Diawa J-Braid and Holy Whaaa...I found the best. Hear me out, both these lines perform very very well. For my testing, I used the same reel, same poles and same lures, side by side. I have no complaints. There is very little resistance and they can cast a mile under right conditions. After a lot of heavy use they can both fray, and you end up sacrificing large sections. The main difference is the sound through the eyes. There is practically no braid pull sound with the J-Braid. That translates to its easier on the fishing pole long term.

Fantastic 8 carrier braid
28 July 2022

I fished this for the first time last summer for bluefin and now have it on all my reels. Consistent quality and strength, good round shape to the line (not as flat as a 4 carrier, and I like the island blue color for offshore fishing. Out in blue water, it is not as visible as the moss greens, bright yellow, or white. While it may not make much difference to the fish as I use 75 to 100 feet of top shot, it gives me more confidence, and a fisherman's confidence adds up to more fish making it to the boat. The color is also light enough to mark with a sharpie to give you precise depth control. I have it marked every 50 feet, and its easy to see the marks when dropping jigs down deep. I can with confidence hit the desired depth the captain is metering fish. After ... MoreI fished this for the first time last summer for bluefin and now have it on all my reels. All of this in a line that is at the same price point as other brands makes this a good value.

Grand? Perhaps not.
4 August 2023

This braid is very popular on the market in Australia, it is definitely better than some other brands but that isn't saying much. I don't like to give negative reviews but sometimes its needed. My experience has been the same as many other peoples experience in the braid randomly breaking in the middle of the line, not in a spot regularly getting close to structure. Not only is it randomly weak in spots it is also thick for what its rated to, sadly this is a braid I can no longer recommend in good faith.

Little Confidence in Build Quality of this line!
31 August 2020

Seemed like the line was not consistent, that there were areas that it looked like the line had abrasion areas or inconsistencies. In these areas, the line was definitely weaker than it should have been. I am a bit fearful of both lost fish and lost lures. Since this 80 pound braid line was purchased for musky fishing - I am fearful that I made a mistake in buying this Daiwa branded line! I bought two spools of it and now have it on my musky reels and have already lost one lure from what appears to be an area of line that the spinning process was not performed properly. I am thinking I need to remove all of this line from my reels - throw in away and purchase another brand. This was part of my first ever on-line purchase from Fleet Farm. Sure is Pretty

I tried the 80# Diawa J-Braid line a couple of years ago for muskies. I thought it handled as well as any line and I'm a fan of the blue color. Though green seems more invisible in the water looking from the top or side, I'm guessing the blue might be more invisible from below looking up at the sky? It also looks really pretty on most reels if you're into that and all other things being equal - why not?. I saw this "Grand" version so I decided to try it. It's a little slicker and more supple than the original. I've only used it for a couple of hours but my impression is that it casts and retrieves a little smoother and makes a bit less zipping noise going through the guides so I'd say as much as I liked the original, I like the Grand even better.I'm thinking it ... MoreI tried the 80# Diawa J-Braid line a couple of years ago for muskies.
