Great reel; smooth and precise.Ordered the faster gear ratio, happy with that. The Diawa line feed system does, I believe, add some cast-ability and distance.Happy with the brake and drag systems as well.Really enjoying it.

This is my first Daiwa baitcaster purchase. I have a bunch of baitcasters from other major brands and I have never had to grease and oil a brand new reel right out of the box. I spooled it and took it fishing throwing small to medium sized swimbaits. It started to make this screeching sound randomly and it felt bad, so I stopped fishing with it. When I got home I broke down the reel and realized it is totally bone dry. Literally no grease at all on the gears. Totally insane to me. So, I greased up the gears and oiled the bearings. It works amazing now, but If I didn't know how to open up a baitcaster I would have just returned this thing. I took one star off for not coming well greased and oiled. If I would have known I would have done this before spooling it up. ... MoreThis is my first Daiwa baitcaster purchase. If I would have known I would have done this before spooling it up. So, I'm writing this review so that you know what the deal is with this reel. It's going to be bone dry when you get it. You'll have to apply a generous amount of grease, so it doesn't start screeching as you're reeling in big baits. Other than that this is a great reel that punches above its class. I can comfortably throw 6 oz baits on this reel no problem. You can really push it to the max, which I love. It's a great reel once it's properly lubricated. Also, it's pretty light for a 200 size reel. I have other 200 size reels and their much heavier. That's the main reason I bought it. I wanted a lighter reel that had an external braking system. I got this reel for $150 on sale too, so it was a no brainer.

To me, this is the perfect reel... I own probably in the neighborhood of 60 reels all of which I would consider tournament caliber reels, many of them I've spent considerable money on to upgrade bearings and handles. Not this one. It literally comes ready to rip, right out of the box. For the current price on Karls, there is no other reel to consider... Maybe a Metanium for three times the money? Not for me, a have a couple Metaniums and I prefer the Tatula 150.

The Daiwa Tatula Baitcaster Reel has become a game-changer in my angling experience. Its advanced T-Wing System makes casting a breeze, significantly reducing line friction and boosting accuracy. The smooth, durable drag system provides reliable fish control, and the lightweight, ergonomic design ensures comfort during long fishing sessions. Though its premium features come with a higher price tag, I find it justified for the performance it delivers. Overall, the Tatula Baitcaster is my go-to reel for reliable and efficient fishing.
Ive got two of the SV spool tatulas just for skipping and being able to cast light baits into the wind. But all my other reels are this 150, normal baits and conditions it casts considerably farther than the sv tw. Its excellent for skipping just not quite as forgiving as the SV spool, plus its got enough line capacity for any technique. With the beefed up gearing and aluminum frame + side plate Im confident saying this reel will hold up better over time. Its the perfect size too, palms better than the old Tatula 100. Performance, versatility, and durability for just over $100...stocking up on these is a no brainer!
I use this reel as my all around multipurpose reel, texas rig, soft plastics, chatterbaits, and worm reel. First time buying a Daiwa. Dear God where has this reel been all my life!!! Set brakes on halfway, adjusted spool tension,(yes I know Daiwa had preset this at Factory, but I forgot), and took my first cast. Unbelievable is all I can say. After using for a few days I now believe that I will sell all my BPS, Lews and Shimano reels and exclusively use Daiwa. By far,(and I can't emphasize this enough, the BEST reel I've ever touched. Already sold my Curado DC and Curado K reels to replace with Tatula's. Just try one of these if you have trouble with casting distance and Birdsnests. This really is simply that AMAZING!!
The T-Wing System is an awesome concept and I feel that it really helps me bomb crankbaits out a long distance. The reel is small enough to be palmed on the side. My only complaint is that the dial that controls spool tension is in a spot where it's really easy to accidentally bump. Make sure your tension is set where you want it before your first cast and then just be aware if you bump it. Otherwise, it's quality built. I've had it for 2 years and have not had issues.
I like the feel and cast ability of this reel. Been using .5 oz weight. I get 45 + yards on casting. Little wiggle at spool and setting around half and still experimenting. I cast rather hard trying to lighting up some. Back lash sometimes. My falt. Love my kastkings, I also get quite a distance. This tatula reel is so nice I perched another + the zillion from Japan. Never fought a fish yet because of bad weather here. The day is coming. And I'm sure the reels will last a long time, kastking reels is ? We'll see. Dawia has a name, excellent.
Very sharp looking reel. Very smooth and very light. Spider graphic makes it shine! Being the color black it matches up with any color rod for badass looking setup. I will be using this reel for bigger glide/ swimbaits. And see that you can use it for saltwater. Thinking fluke and seabass should be no problem. I have all Daiwa baitcasters and spinning reels. Tatula. 100 150 Sv 103s for saltwater the coastal 200 Lt 2500 3000 Procyon Lt 2500 and AL3000. And for stripers I use the Ballistic MQ4000, and now the 200. These reels are all very light and sharp looking and flawless. No problems with any of them! I have so many I can't see having to buy anymore but the 300 Lexa might be the next. Or 400. But you can't go wrong with the Daiwa brand. Very happy I went with this ... MoreVery sharp looking reel. Very smooth and very light. Spider graphic makes it shine! I just got this yesterday with my gift cards and money that was given to me for Christmas and I absolutely like it. To start off, this reel casts significantly farther than my other reels, which is kinda expected since my others only cost 100 dollars a piece though. If your just looking for a reel to upgrade your cheeper ones and want a reel that cast significantly fat and has a smooth crank, this is the reel for you. The body design does take some getting used to if this is your first daiwa bait caster, and is not louder casting and cranking compared to my standard slx, so if you want a really quiet reel I don’t suggest this one. But other than those two things, here’s the basic reasons why this is good- 1.)casts very far 2.) smooth crank 3.) minimal backlashes ... MoreI just got this yesterday with my gift cards and money that was given to me for Christmas and I absolutely like it. Those are my only two complaints. For that reason though, I am using this reel with 15 lb fluorocarbon and specifically throwing 5/8 ounce hardbaits on it. Used that way, works like a dream and is worth what you pay for.
