Absolutely love this , took a little time to fit to my truck as abit fiddly at first but once you have taken off and put on a few times it’s very easy .I have a soft torneu cover that rolls back so I did have to tighten that to stop it flapping around , as was abit to tight against foam lining to keep the pick up pad on and close .The only negative is that it blocks my rear view camera and sensors but if you no the length of your truck isn’t too much of a worry apart from constantly setting the sensors off when reversing as don’t have front sensors .As a single mum of 2 young kids this is perfect as it doesn’t require me having to lift them on top of the truck like a bike rack and instead just over the tail gate . The pad fitment itself is great on my 2014 Tacoma, and I was able to get my bike, and a few other friends bikes on it no problem. However, I noticed that the pad had scratched the downtube of my new bike pretty severely after using it ten or so times. I called customer support and their response was "Put some protective tape on your bike." I don't think this is a great solution, and if it's the case, it should be advertised that it is necessary when buying this product. The point of the pad is to protect your bike while transporting it....right? Pretty disappointed, especially with so many good reviews.

This is my second pickup Pad from Dakine. I have used it on two different Honda Ridgelines. It is easy to take on and off (for car washes) and lasts pretty well, a few years. I REALLY wish they did not put the tailgate handle cover on it as it Blocks the backup camera. I solve this by cutting the flap off.

Stand out from the crowd. There is a wide variety of gear that is functional, usually in black, grey or brown. And yes Dakine makes some awesome gear in that category as well. But when you feel the need to stand out, be a bit bold and let your style speak as loudly as your stoke and skills, then Dakine gear should always be your first stop. Not affiliated with them, just a big fan on and off the bike. Always my go to for function that is funkyKeep Rising.
I bought this almost 1 year ago, the material has faded and worn a little but it's still in great shape and still holds my bike securely. There were times when I would keep it on for weeks at a time, even kept it on for a few months one of those times. It's been through rain, heat, and freezing weather, the material is still in great shape, no tears or stitching coming apart at all yet. Still a good idea to take it off when not in use, the outer part is very good at repelling water but condensation can form underneath it overnight. Those 3 small elastic bands it comes with are to bundle up the excess straps after it's put on, I lost one but a ziptie works just fine as a replacement. I go biking almost every day of the week, I'm expecting much more use out of this ... MoreI bought this almost 1 year ago, the material has faded and worn a little but it's still in great shape and still holds my bike securely. Pro's1. Holds the bikes well but that is more a function of a wedge and gravity.2. Decent looking and nice soft backing3. The large will easily allow us to hold seven bikes in the back of a 2011 TundraCons1. I question the quality of the hardware including long term durability especially the sliding buckles, but hey it is 100 bucks and made overseas.2. My biggest gripe is the amount of velcro on the straps as smaller frames or a certain geometry does not allow for the hold down velcro straps to get much purchase and if you try to do two wraps then it is usually not enough there either.3. The latch access is no where near where it needs to be for a 2011 tundra but might be for other vehicles. No impact to my rating as it cannot fit everything but your ... MorePro's1. No impact to my rating as it cannot fit everything but your gonna have to fish for the handle in many modern gate latch configurations.Would I buy it again....yes, most likely. I was hoping to be surprised by the quality, fit and finish but it is just ok. I would gladly pay more for a more robust and well thought out American made one but I bet that is not happening any time soon.
This makes transporting bikes to the trails a breeze. Very good quality and protects bikes and vehicle. The side that lays on the car and a soft material. The small fits my Honda Ridgeline perfectly. I'm so happy I bought this and also happy that I ordered through Al's. Great price and shipped fast.
Fits ok on my 2015 silverado. The opening for the handle doesn't exactly line up but i can still reach in and open it. Also the straps which hold the bike could use a little more hook and loop material on them. Overall it does its job as a tailgate pad to hold my bikes but just a couple of minor items as mentioned.
2000 Toyota Tacoma. Dakine has mastered the tailgate pad. It's simple, it's attractive, and it gets the job done. Unlike other pads there's nothing extra going on. The pad looks great on your pickup and is discreet in its delivery. 5 straps on the smaller pad work flawlessly to hold the bikes in place whether they're small steel tubes or fat carbon. It offers complete functionality of the truck which I love, a sleek design means nothing hanging out in the bed so I can still utilize the full bed and the tailgate opperates as it should. The only thing that I've found is that on my truck, the opening for the latch is a touch high and I have to reach down behind the pad a little to open it. That however is impossible to get perfect for every truck when offering a ... More2000 Toyota Tacoma. Dakine has mastered the tailgate pad. It's simple, it's attractive, and it gets the job done. I was on the fence about buying this, because you can easily just throw the bikes in the back of the truck. What pushed me over the edge was an upcoming trip with some buddies, having to carry 6 bikes and riders. In the past we just put the bikes in the back, leading to scratches and dings on everyone's sweet rides. Nowadays, instead of issuing a standard "your stuff will get scratched" warning to folks, I just load em up and away we go.Pros:- Its quick to load. Much quicker than stacking bikes carefully and aligning wheels and pedals to make everything fit, and trying to stuff rags in between rubbing frames and brake levers.- Its easy to put on. Its the perfect width for my 2012 F150, and the two outside straps go on in seconds. Its the perfect width for my 2012 F150, and the two outside straps go on in seconds. The middle strap is more difficult but I found that holding the tailgate half open under one arm allows me to easily feed the strap under it. Total install time: < 2 minutes including getting it from inside and walking out to my truck.- The bikes just don't move. No more worrying about scratches or having to use tie downs. The velcro straps on the tailgate hold everything secure. I've taken it on some rough roads/speed bumps and no issues whatsoever.- Its well built and has a soft inner layer. If your tailgate is clean of dirt, this won't scratch it.- It looks cool AF. And I say that as a grown man. You will get major style points at the trailhead as a 'serious' MTBer. Now to fit the image of your cool tailgate pad, you have to casually drop some references to 'shredding' and 'steeze' and 'roost'. Just make sure no one sees how bad you actually ride.Cons:- It comes with a flap to let you use your backup cam. It probably works great for other trucks (it even has a little thingy to let you prop it open) but my tailgate cam is in the wrong part (2012 F150 - in the badge, not the handle). But who cares, trucks are for driving into things. Dents let you pretend you use it for real work and not just hauling around expensive toys like your favorite, adopted, 29" wheeled carbon full suspension, child. Also trucks come with mirrors to stop you backing over school buses of disadvantaged orphans, so yknow, don't worry about it.PROS: Durable, Rugged, Doesn't Scratch Tailgate
