Bag is solid and is ideal for day tours

ignore the 1 star review guy, dude is on one. this bag is money. it perfectly and comfortably fits the dakine bladder, avy gear, goggles + extra lens + sunglasses, two sets of gloves, a puffy, a shell, snacks, tools, hats, and a helmet in the tuck away pouch on bottom, or the helmet loops up top. the way the layout of the bags access makes perfect sense when on the skin track or taking a quick break. makes everything incredibly simple to get to. the support straps help make the bag feel like it isn't even there most of the time. A solid bag with ample room, a fantastic layout, straight forward access, sleek look, and at a great price. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get out for the day.

Great pack I love it, the water tube, the whistle, the googles pocket, oh wait. The DK spine protector just doesn't fit. The cavity to hold it is too long and it pops out. Was stoked for this pack. I figured it was a mess up last year so I got this years edition. Same exact construction 0 improvement on the pouch. Have always loved dakine but this big a flaw on such a perfect pack just sucks. Id recommending measuring your pouch before sending to production...

Details work well; A-frame carry, board carry, helmet holder, hipbelt pocket, goggle case, everything I've needed is there. The snap-shut compression buckles take a little getting used to but the board is locked in during carries. I don't have an airbag but the rolltop pocket is useful for other things too. Personally, I would also like some stretch shoulder strap pockets for snacks etc. but maybe that's just me loving snacks. I love the way the main compartment opens to keep snow off the back panel but it is awkward getting in w/helmet strapped on front. In general it's carried well with light and heavy, small and large loads, resort riding to grueling 18+ hour days and come through strong. You could get a smaller or lighter pack but especially for done-in-a-day splitboarding I think this is one of the most versatile and reliable options, would 100% buy again.

Great Slim Profile Pack!
1 February 2023

This is super high quality, very durable and very functional. This is slim profile enough for the resort days and fully featured for shorter back country trips. I wear a non-dakine back protector when I ride hard and this is shaped perfectly to accommodate without adding more bulk. The only complaint I have is that the pack is a little heavy. It’s about a pound heavier or double the weight than other 18l packs in the same category, but some of that weight is to accommodate the removable airbag system and the rest is because of the quality of material and features in the bag that I wouldn’t do without. If you don’t need to use an airbag system, the pockets add extra storage so it’s good either way. For me the extra weight isn’t a problem, if you are looking for the ... MoreThis is super high quality, very durable and very functional. But if you want a super durable and very slim profile pack with all quality features, you found it. If you catch it on a good sale, this bag a great buy for winter alpine adventures!

Great backpack for resort or short missions to side country
9 February 2023

This is a great, low-profile backpack for resort riding or short missions into the side country. It has enough room for an extra layer and some snacks. The fleece-lined goggle pocket is also great for storing an extra lens or sunnies. I also appreciate the drinking tube garage on the left strap that keeps my water from freezing. It generally meets the standard in quality and durability I expect from Dakine and believe I will enjoy this pack for many seasons.

Great but different
15 February 2022

The more I ski with this bag the more I enjoy it. Things to note- it's a very tall bag. I'm a lanky 6'0" and notice how much taller this bag is than all the others I own (including other Dakine bags). It's at least 4" taller, and with the rigid back plate you notice. At first I really disliked that the largest pocket could only be accessed through the back plate so I had to remove the bag entirely to access it. I'm getting more used to it but still wish there was at least some sort of access from the side or top to this compartment. The goggle pocket is a little tight but works. I really like the permanently attached helmet net that stores into its own pocket -great feature. I seem to misplace all the other detachable helmet nets on other packs. I have yet to purchase the airbag, but without it - fully loaded, the pack doesn't feel heavy at all. It Carrie's very well, close to body mass and I still feel very nimble on skis or snowboard. Great bag overall and a good investment for the backcountry. I also use this in bounds and on lifts with no trouble.

Great pack, few details missed
10 February 2021

Great pack for long days at the resort or slackcountry trekking. Great quality for the fabric, zips, and stitching as you would expect from Dakine. Sturdy straps have a lot of options for how to carry skis/board/gear/etc. I love the various pockets, webbing attachments, front access zip. Really good overall.I have just a few gripes and nip-picks on the design, and I'll preface this by saying that none of these is a dealbreaker:First, the internal routing for water/radio/backprotector is very nice, but you can only really pick one of those to have installed. Not a huge problem since the bag is pretty stiff and you'll likely have a lot of stuff crammed in it, and most radios are just a hand unit anyhow. Second issue, which would be an easy fix for version 2.0 is ... MoreGreat pack for long days at the resort or slackcountry trekking. Not a huge problem since the bag is pretty stiff and you'll likely have a lot of stuff crammed in it, and most radios are just a hand unit anyhow. Second issue, which would be an easy fix for version 2.0 is that the 'fleece lined goggle pocket' is only big enough to hold a replacement lens, not a whole goggle, leaving you to stuff your goggle into the main compartment. Third issue I've had is the lower ski/board carry strap buckle is too close to the pack on the left side. There's not enough slack on the webbing to really get up and over the thickness of a snowboard, so the buckle itself is jammed at a weird angle against the sidewall; maybe 1cm longer and it's perfect. My final issue is honestly pretty low stakes, and it's an issue for a lot of this type of pack: the avy gear compartment doesn't have a very waterproof barrier between it and the main storage, and there's no drain holes at the bottom. Again, this is very typical so I might be the only person with this issue; but I'll sometimes break out the avy shovel to dig a flat step for strapping in or a little booter ramp, which can leave a snow crusted shovel getting jammed back into the pack melting off and leaving a damp spot.Again, none of those is a deal breaker, and overall this is a GREAT pack. Just wanted to get some feedback to the designers for next season

Great slim skiing pack with a few minor complaints.
5 April 2023

Overall, pack is great. Nice and slim, I barely feel it while I'm skiing and don't have to take it off on the lift. I've used it 2 days in CO and 3 days in Tahoe so far, and it fits everything I need for a day of resort skiing. Was also able to fit my laptop, switch, and a pretty big paperback for my carry-on. Only used the diagonal ski carry a couple times, but it seems to work well. It takes a bit to get the skis secure, but with practice it will get easier.Just have a few minor complaints that don't impact the usability of the pack at all. The color, at least for the green color is much more muted than in the photos. Also the straps are all really long, I might trim them down. There are a few little quality issues. One of the shoulder straps it feels like the foam inside is wrinkled and doesn't lay flat. I don't feel it through a jacket, but it's noticeable if I'm just in a t-shirt. The way the bag was shipped, the hip belt buckle was pressed against the front panel and you can see a bit of an indent. I've also noticed some loose threads that I trimmed off.So overall very happy with it, issue are noticeable, but don't effect actually using the pack.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
26 April 2022

I'm a long time Dakine customer and own (and use) a 2007 Tactic (27L) and 2019 36L Poacher. I was looking for a replacement for the Tactic and purchased this pack. The current Poacher series has some significant improvements over past models and retains some of the flaws. The Good: Excellent materials and workmanship. The belt pocket can fit and iPhone SE in an Otter box case. Zip pockets/hydration tube access/ insulated sleeve on both shoulder straps is a plus. The pack has clean lines, is compact, and comfortable to wear.. Good layout for tools, skis/board and helmet attachment. Pocket/compartment layout is very good with the following exception. The Bad: Personally I don't like that the main compartment can only be accessed through the back panel necessitating ... MoreI'm a long time Dakine customer and own (and use) a 2007 Tactic (27L) and 2019 36L Poacher. Pocket/compartment layout is very good with the following exception. The Bad: Personally I don't like that the main compartment can only be accessed through the back panel necessitating taking the pack off. Granted this is a big plus for those that need to hike with their skis or board, not so good for the rest of us. There are no daisy chains or other external attachment points in particular on the shoulder straps. The Ugly: All the Poachers suffer from this problem and it continues with this iteration. The hydration tube routing from the compartment to the shoulder strap is very restricted by the back panel and difficult to use. Its so tight it can restrict the flow of water through the tube. Come on Dakine I'm not the only person that has noted this and it needs to be fixed. The weight of the new Poachers is ridiculous. This 22L pack weighs more than my Poacher 36L by 85 grams. Although its not a lot of weight, the comparative (old to new series) ratio of volume to weight is way out of line. Thus I returned the pack and will try out a 20L Osprey Kamber.

Very nice backcountry backpack overall
3 July 2022

As said in the title, very nice backpack, not too big, not too small, should be able to carry everything I need for a backcountry expedition without being too heavy. I really like all the straps for poles/helmet/etc. and the multiple configurations available. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with is the size of the A-frame carry loops, the description says they were made bigger to accommodate large powder skis or splitboard halves, but they are still a couple millimeters too small, my splitboard does not fit. I had to cut off a seam that was totally useless on each of the loops to be hardly able to fit the splitboard halves, not sure I'm really gonna use those since it fits so tightly. 5-10mm wider would've made those loops perfect. Besides that, can't wait ... MoreAs said in the title, very nice backpack, not too big, not too small, should be able to carry everything I need for a backcountry expedition without being too heavy.
