"Good" only because I have not installed it as yet. Had to return this product because I ordered the wrong one (DUH!) Have ordered the double key model of this brand to replace this one. All my neighbor have these locks and are extremely satisfied. Living in a downtown urban area requires a little more security with easy functionality. This product is both. double key will allow me to secure yard and grant me easy access without have to use the driveway gate all the time.

A well made gate lock. I matched this lock with self closing hinges and am super happy with the results. We have a small dog and I no longer worry about the gate being accidentally left open by the kids.

Easy to install and worked nicely at the start; HOWEVER, the polymer material seems to attract squirrels. The gnawed product is useless within a year, since it will not close properly. We've had this experience now with two of these locks. This product does not seem to be suitable for outdoor use !Need to find an all-metal version that fits readily onto the square metal tubing of the garden posts - any advice?

Pros: easy & quick to install...maybe.Cons: successful installation and long-term use as intended depends heavily on your gate tolerances.Cons: latch features and function depends on tolerance changes that fluctuate with temperature.Easy to install the lockable latch. Easy to install the latch post. Poor design on the latch post, which has a 90 degree turn and must be installed on two adjacent sides of the swinging gate. This limits installation location/flexibility.The hidden side (not shown in any of the product photos) is sloped, which creates gate-on post contact in high temperatures if the gate tolerances are not "ideal." This limits installation location/flexibility.The hidden side (not shown in any of the product photos) is sloped, which creates gate-on post contact in high temperatures if the gate tolerances are not "ideal." Better to simply hack saw the useless corner off to eliminate clearance issues that surface in summer temperatures >95 degrees F as plastic and metal expand and tolerances vanish. The two-sided lock mechanism is a flimsy wire bar. The rear lock and flimsy, threaded wire bar are covered by a curved plastic housing. I found that the combination of the curved housing and the threaded wire bar directly impinge the latch post. For me, the threaded wire bar contacts the sloped curved corner of the latch post (see above). Again, better to hack saw the useless corner off of the latch post and rid yourself of it's pointless existence.Overall a nice idea for a gate latch system, but the design gives user little flexibility in how to install to account for tolerance issues. Feels sturdy once installed. Materials do expand/contract with temperature.
I guess five years is a good amount of time for a $30 product, but I don't know the life expectancy of a gate latch. I missed the day they taught that in kindergarten. Easy enough to use. After a while, it got difficult to insert the key to lock or unlock. The polymer attaching it to the aluminum gate eventually just snapped in two. However, I am replacing it with the same thing just for continuity.
What a useless piece of crap. First off, it feels very cheap. Secondly, if you lock the backside, you cannot open the front side! If you don't lock the backside, it's easy to reach over and open the gate! I may be able to salvage it by lowering the lock on the gate, so you cannot reach over, but that'd be hacky, not the way a gate lock should work. I'd skip this and buy something else.
When you pay to much for this , you should buy different screw when you are there , cause the self drilling screws that come with it , will drill the PVC but not leave enough for the screw to gab. When attaching to the gate part . Gab a small piece of blocking to put inside rail of your fence too, lock looks great , over priced , and you need to modify, other then that good gate lock ,
This is a good-quality latch that is easy to install and will provide basic security for most gates. It was really easy to install. I used it to replace a basic hook-type latch on a cedar gate and cedar 4x4 post, so I did have to drill my own holes. The key works well and does exactly what it should - it prevents other kids in the neighborhood from coming into the yard unsupervised or from letting our dog out. By basic security, I mean that it isn't Fort Knox, but if this latch won't meet your needs then you probably need a beefier security fence and gate as well. Note that you if you are replacing an existing latch and don't want to drill new holes, you should check the size specifications first because other sizes are available.
Used this D&D Gate LAtch in combination with the self-closing hinges on a privacy fence, and am pleased with the results. This locking latching is made of the same strong polymer and stainless steel as the hinges, so rust will not be a problem in the future. The only thing I would have liked to see changed was the thickness of the stamped steel on the "catch" lever and mechanism-- it seems a bit thin for the task. But once installed, it does the job fine. The directions for the install were very good, in that they give good orientation illustrations (including overhead views) so the user can easily determine what component goes where, and in what position. Very handy!I also appreciate that the components can be adjusted for proper alignment-- you don't have to be ... MoreUsed this D&D Gate LAtch in combination with the self-closing hinges on a privacy fence, and am pleased with the results. This locking latching is made of the same strong polymer and stainless steel as the hinges, so rust will not be a problem in the future. Add to the package the key lock, and you have a nice looking latch for your fence or pool!
I like the design of this latch. You have a choice of two different mounts for the latch part. It can either mount with 3 screws, or 5 screws, depend on the mount base chosen. The 5 screw mount is L-shaped, with 2 screws hidden by the closed gate. Both mounts have one screw that is hidden under the latch, and can only be accessed by twisting the latch, and removing it from the mount. You can not do this with the gate latched. The pin part of the latch also has a L-shaped mount, with 2 screws between the gate and the post. Again requiring the gate to be open to get at.The lock will let you remove the key in both the locked and unlocked position. The parts of the latch look tough enough that it will not be easy to break it.I ran into one problem when trying to ... MoreI like the design of this latch. Once the weather improves, I am going to have to mortise the gate for the pin mount. But not having to hold a padlock when unlocking the gate makes it worth the extra work. No more taking two hands to unlock the gate.
